Dominate the Super Bowl-Chapter 305: Rubbing salt into the wound 304
Mark’s eyes bulged, he simply couldn’t believe it. He had followed Li Wei step by step, but never imagined that Li Wei would cunningly take advantage of such a mindset to lure him foolishly into the trap he dug himself—and then bury him in it—
Mark tried to reach out with his right hand to grab Li Wei, but his stiff muscles were completely frozen in place, unable to move. His calmness disappeared in an instant, and he desperately tried to turn his upper body to follow Li Wei’s movements, but was as awkward and clumsy as R2-D2 from "Star Wars."
Turning around, then another turn.
His body couldn’t keep up with the speed of his brain’s reactions, and the next second, Mark simply... fell straight back.
He tumbled over.
Shame, profound shame.
As Mark fell backward, the world turned upside down; his gaze never left Li Wei, as he tried to discern the triumphant smile underneath Li Wei’s helmet, but he could see nothing, only the number 23 receding into the distance.
"Li Wei!"
"Li Wei has juked Mark; the best defensive player of last season stood like a wooden pole as Li Wei easily broke through his defense."
"Whoa!"
"But Li Wei has not let his guard down."
"Kerry and Bowman are coming in for the squeeze."
Li Wei had no time to care about the wooden pole behind him, a crisis loomed before him.
No matter what, Mark’s shadowing had indeed bought time for his teammates. Kerry and Bowman had arrived galloping, and other towering white waves were closing in at full speed, the passage ahead visibly narrowing.
A golden opportunity not to be missed, never to return.
Push off, step forward, accelerate.
It was just two short steps, but Li Wei switched directions as smoothly as a sprinter transitioning from the curve to the straight in a 200-meter race, exploding with speed without hesitation.
On the right, was cornerback Kerry.
On the left was linebacker Bowman.
A pincer movement from both sides.
Li Wei didn’t hesitate; his footsteps shifted, deviating from the straight path to the right and crashing through.
Kerry: ???
Compared to Bowman, Kerry clearly lacked experience, utterly unprepared for what came next. He stuck to Li Wei like he would when covering a wide receiver, entangling him immediately.
The next second, Li Wei explosively picked up speed, thrusting his right shoulder forward to collide with Kerry.
Kerry felt a dull pain in his chest as the breath got caught there. He tried to raise his arms to tackle, but they were like two limp noodles, unable to lift, and then he just watched Li Wei getting farther and farther away.
Kerry tried to keep up, but his mind was roaring as he watched Li Wei run faster and faster, a chasm opening up between them.
How... how did this happen? Why were his eyes brimming with hot tears?
And Li Wei?
With the collision, he used the force, not getting entangled and leveraging the recoil to refract and change his trajectory again, continuing down the sideline where Kerry was.
"Wow, that adaptability."
"A proactive charge, knocking Kerry away, shaking off Bowman, and switching lanes—Li Wei returned to the sideline route he’s most familiar with and excels at."
"Beautiful!"
Five yards.
First down accomplished, breaking into the Red Zone.
What remained was a contest of speed.
Li Wei and Bowman raced shoulder to shoulder, sprinting in a straight line. Bowman tried to cut inside horizontally to block the path, but Li Wei was ready to overtake him with sheer speed.
Ten yards.
Bowman clenched his teeth tightly, aware that his absolute speed was no match for the young man’s. Noticing Li Wei’s collision with Kerry, Bowman preemptively cut across based on his experience, determined to stop him before the end zone.
Getting closer, even closer.
Bowman was about to intercept Li Wei.
Just then, Li Wei unbelievably picked up speed again, overtaking with an explosive burst of power.
Bowman had already extended his right hand, so close, yet he grasped at air, catching only an afterimage as a foreboding premonition seized his heart and sent it in free fall.
Ahead, the end zone was in reach.
"Touchdown."
"Li Wei breaks through with absolute speed, Bowman’s tackle is half a beat too slow; he misses and tumbles out of bounds as Li Wei charges down the sideline into the end zone, securing the touchdown."
"Touchdown! Without a doubt, touchdown!"
"Wow!"
"Third gear, five yards; the Kansas City Chiefs unleash a dizzying offensive play, and the Oakland Raiders’ defensive group is entirely overwhelmed. Despite Mark and Bowman giving it their all, Li Wei proves to be a cut above."
"Losing Mark in a series of jukes, turning him into a stationary post, then using his sheer speed to outpace and break away from Bowman, Li Wei firmly seizes the opportunity to score another touchdown for his team and deliver a resounding knock-out blow to the Oakland Raiders."
"The Raiders’ defensive group, having barely recovered some semblance of form, hadn’t even got the chance to ignite fully before being brutally snuffed out once more."
"Incredible! Absolutely incredible!"
"Such a start; it is beyond what anyone could have anticipated."
"Facing a division rival in the depths of a six-game losing streak, the Kansas City Chiefs, from top to bottom, found their fighting spirit ignited. From the first drive, they suppressed the opponent in both offense and defense, sweeping away the past month and a half of gloom and stumbling, with a victory-certain belief that sent the Oakland Raiders toppling over."
"Literally."
Mark went down, Kerry went down, Bowman simply tumbled right out of the playing area.
Behind Li Wei’s path to touchdown, lay a trail of bodies.
"Who would have thought that just six weeks ago, the Oakland Raiders had clinched a last-second victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, and thereafter maintained their good form; in contrast, it was the Chiefs who had collapsed, sliding towards the dark abyss?" Find adventures at novelbuddy
"But such are the Raiders and the Chiefs."
"You can never underestimate the energy they unleash in division showdowns."
"Oakland, are you ready? Kansas’ revenge is unfolding!"
Fly!
Fly!
Fly!
The entire Arrowhead Stadium united in chanting loudly; no one could remain seated, each one rising to pump their fists in the air and jump on the spot.
The Old Oak Tavern was no exception.
Provo was the first to stand up, raising his arms high in a touchdown gesture, eyes riveted to the screen with surging emotions, steadfast in signaling:
Touchdown, that was a touchdown!
The first quarter had just passed the halfway mark, and it was the Kansas City Chiefs’ second touchdown—a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown—both by Li Wei.
Then, Provo saw Li Wei in the end zone, quietly watching the crowd in the stands, without a gesture or a word, but one look was enough.
"Fly!"
Provo was the first to shout out—

He believed, he wanted to believe that as long as that number twenty-three still stood on the field, they were still fighting, they were still ablaze, refusing to lay down arms, refusing to surrender, battling until the very last moment.
West stood behind the bar, watching Provo cheer oblivious to his surroundings, tasting a complex mix of emotions. Provo, who had been like a lifeless grey shadow up until now, had suddenly regained his color.
Even in low spirits, even in despair, even when they truly believed life had hit a dead end, one should not give up; just hold on a little longer, just a little bit longer, and perhaps life might take a turn for the better.
Standing in the mud, they still held their heads high, gazing up at the stars.
The dazzling and bright red wave on the TV screen was the drive that kept them going.
Then, West also raised his arms high, joining everyone in the tavern.
"Fly!"
Their journey, their adventure, continued to soar.
Boom.
Resoundingly, the impassioned surge of Arrowhead Stadium broke through the TV screen and cascaded down, as "those within the League" also joined the clapping ranks.
There might be only one exception.
