Draconic King of Shadows-Chapter 67: Meeting
Damion’s mind wandered off from Nyx, and he began to think of the possible reasons Melruen had helped them.
Melruen was the odd one out of all the students termed strong. He didn’t misuse his Ability or find trouble with anyone, in fact he was the calmest amongst all students.
His strong Ability made it so that no one messed with him, and even at that, he was known for his gentle nature.
Damion also remembered that he was always found with Emily. They moved together at all times, and people even claimed they shared the same room —though he wasn’t so sure about that.
This was all he could find out about Melruen in his extensive research.
Damion was so lost in thoughts that he totally ignored Nyx, who hovered before him, inspecting his facial features with a serious look in his eyes.
Nyx recognized Damion’s aura as the Dragon God’s, but his looks were different from what he remembered. The Black Dragon of the Night he remembered was terrifyingly large and had immense strength. Damion, rather than even looking like a Dragon, was quite feeble and weak.
’Even I can end him in one move if I tried,’ Nyx thought, his brows scrunching up in worry. ’This is bad, I need to protect him until he regains his former prowess.’
Nyx moved closer to Damion and stared deeply at him.
The unnerving gaze finally snapped Damion out of his thoughts, and he looked up. "What?" He asked.
"Hmm... Did you perhaps, lose your memories."
Damion looked down and sighed. ’This would be stressful.’
Damion decided to explain the whole situation to Nyx, talking about everything from how he got the system to this point.
He was as truthful as possible, and although it might look stupid to most, the Master-Slave relationship Nyx had with the Dragon God was transferred over to him by some unknown means. That meant telling Nyx everything came with no consequences.
Thirty minutes later, Damion had narrated his journey from getting the system to where he was now.
Nyx, surprisingly, took in everything easily. He was not surprised by this and even seemed somewhat happy.
Damion expected there to be some strain in their false relationship, but the floating creature before him seemed very optimistic.
"If that’s the case then you’re a champion, and not the Dragon God," Nyx voiced out. "And I will do my part of training you to become as strong as possible to kill that bastard."
"How are you going to train me?" Damion asked. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"I have multiple methods, but first, deal with them," Nyx replied and suddenly turned invisible, though Damion could still see him.
A knock was heard on the door, and he walked up to it, opening it up and peering outside.
He found Matilda standing before the door, and right behind her was Kenzo and Lyra.
Damion scrunched up his nose. "Uh, when did my room become a meeting place?" He asked, a slight frown on his face.
"Can we at least come in?" Lyra said from the back, a sleepy look in her eyes.
Damion glanced at Nyx floating over the bed and secretly made signs for him to hide. Nyx sized Damion up as if he were a monkey performing tricks, before he said to him.
"I’m invisible to their eyes and perception, only you can see me."
’Should have said so long ago,’ Damion wanted to say, but he instead glanced at the trio and opened the door wider.
Matilda found her way to Damion’s bed and sat on its edge. Kenzo just stood by the wall and rested against it, while Lyra looked around curiously, staring at the room’s bland color and design.
The well framed bed was large enough to contain at least three people, and its softness was unmatched. There was a cupboard by the bed along with a mahogany table and chair.
The plain white walls made the room lack any aesthetic, and this made Lyra frown.
"I thought it’ll be different," she mumbled to herself.
Damion sat on the bed and folded his legs. Matilda shifted closer to his side, but Damion pretended to not notice this.
"C’mon," Kenzo said. "Tell him what you told us earlier."
"Oh! Right," Lyra paused her inspection of the room and sent a glance towards Damion. She caught sight of Matilda sitting close to him, and a knowing smile crept up her face.
Matilda’s face flushed, but she forced herself to remain calm and looked away from Lyra.
"Melruen brought you three back," Lyra finally said, and Damion’s brows rose.
"What about Captain Shodan?" Damion asked.
"He refused to come, even after I told him we encountered a beast potentially at the Middle Rank."
"What did you do then?" Damion replied.
"I came back, only to find the dead Rhino," Lyra responded. "I searched for its Core, but found out it had been taken, along with its horns."
Damion sighed. "That’s two lost Cores and horns," Damion said and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"Because of that, and also because you didn’t submit the horns before dawn, we failed the mission," Kenzo chimed in.
"Well it’s not my fault," Damion replied, looking through the window at the rising sun.
Just then, Lyra’s stomach growled and she grabbed her belly, twisting her face in pain and annoyance.
"We were not given breakfast either," Matilda said from the side. "Captain Shodan says it’s for not completing the mission."
"And those bastards just had to rub it in our face," Lyra added angrily and began mumbling some incomprehensible words to herself.
"I forgot to ask, Damion," Kenzo said. "How did you lose the other Rhino’s horn? Did it run away?"
The two girls turned their heads towards Damion, waiting for an answer.
"It was stolen," Damion replied, and the subtle clenching of his fists wasn’t missed by them.
"By who?" Matilda asked.
Damion paused, gritting his teeth as he remembered that scene. The smile on Drax’s face, his fading laughter as he made away with Damion’s gains, and the unrewarding pain Damion felt in his body.
"Drax."
