Chapter 66: Nyx

Damion and Matilda stared at the creature floating before them, then as if just recognizing it as something not human, they jumped back, or rather, Damion jumped back.

Matilda let go of Damion and tried to transform again, but a splitting headache and fatigue combo hit her hard, and she fell by her brother’s side, her eyes almost rolling to the back of her head.

Damion’s swords appeared in his hands, and he took a fighting stance, using Dragon’s Authority to probe the floating metal-like creature before him.

There was a short silence that ensued as the creature remained bowed, at least that’s what it seemed like to Damion, before he finally gritted his teeth in annoyance at the Blessing of Knowledge.

’No information on this weird beast, and Kenzo and Matilda don’t look too good.’ Damion thought, ready to use Shadow Possession at any moment and escape with the Draeke twins if things went sideways.

’Or, I can stall for time until Captain Shodan shows up,’ he thought again. ’That’s if I can’t deal with this creature though.’

A minute went by, and seeing that the creature still hadn’t ’raised’ its ’head’ Damion decided to play along.

"Who are you? And what do you want from us?" He asked, and immediately cringed.

’Aish, that was a stupid thing to say,’ Damion chastised himself, but his gaze remained unwavering and focused on the creature.

"I am only reuniting with my liege after our long separation," the creature responded respectfully.

"Wha..." Damion opened his mouth to speak, but the Blessing of Knowledge activated in that instant, flooding his head with bulks of memories and information.

Suddenly, Damion dropped to the ground, and he blacked out.

***

A darkness, much warmer than any that had ever existed before, wrapped around a figure, caressing its form and nurturing it.

Time passed slowly, and after what seemed like a hundred years —or even just a second— a crack in the darkness awoke the creature within, and it shuddered, pushing out with all its might and tearing the darkness apart.

A bright light hit it hard, and it scrunched up, subconsciously using its leathery wings to shield its eyes.

However, as soon as the creature tried to do so, it fell back down, stumbling over its shell and falling to the ground.

Its pained yelp was heard by its mother, and her head rose from slumber, looming over the hatched egg and watching the baby Dragon with what seemed like curiosity and amusement.

"Finally," the mother Dragon said. "My child is born, now I can rest in peaceee..." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

The mother Dragon collapsed, just the same way that reality suddenly shattered like a mirror, and the scene changed.

***

In a time immemorial...

A black dragon soared through the cosmos, its great wings deviating the paths of celestial bodies like they were mere toys in the way of a child.

The Dragon’s presence washed over everything it passed, and anyone who saw it was filled with reverence and awe.

The Dragon’s length spanned many kilometers, each of its scales dwarfing a cluster of planets easily.

Its maws opened up, and like a natural disaster, Blackholes were born, tears appeared in the firmament and countless planets and stars were destroyed.

A second later, its roar shattered reality, and the space in the surrounding millions of kilometers were pulverized, compressing and twisting before disappearing completely.

Left there was a void, a void that lasted eons before it slowly began to stitch itself back.

Suddenly, that reality shattered...

***

A Dragon, much like the one in the previous memory, appeared again. This time, it was much smaller and stood on a lonely planet in a deserted galaxy.

Still, its size was so immense it covered over half the planet, nonetheless, it could still see the set of tiny creatures floating before it, their heads bowed in submission.

A conversation occurred between the two parties, and the Black Dragon raised a foot, ready to smash the tiny creatures to oblivion.

The creatures trembled, terror stricken by the thought of dying after being enslaved throughout their lives by a vile race.

The foot descended, bringing with it an oppressive gale of wind that destroyed everything in its path before the feet even landed.

But at the last moment, the Black Dragon paused and retracted its foot.

"Serve me," it thundered, its voice traveling kilometers and spreading through the void of space.

A ripple of energy extended from the Black Dragon, and the creatures were bound by an invisible force.

"As from today," the black Dragon spoke again, a deep and profound aura pressing down on the planet and compressing it, turning it into a stream of energy that flew into the leading creature. "You shall be called... Nyx."

And then the reality shattered.

***

Damion’s eyes fluttered open. He groaned and sat up on his bed, propping himself up against the bedhead.

"Nyx, where are we?" He asked as he tried to clear his blurry vision.

"It seems we are in a room of sorts," Nyx replied, looking around with narrowed eyes.

"Oh, it seems Captain Shodan or someone else helped us then," Damion muttered as he rubbed his head, trying to push through the headache that assaulted him.

"Should I break us out of here?"

Silence.

Damion slowly raised his head up, staring at the floating creature before him.

"Why am I not shocked or scared?" Damion asked.

"I do not understand what you mean my liege," Nyx replied.

Damion’s memories came flooding back into his head, and he winced in pain, blood flowing down his nose and staining the sheets.

He neither felt scared nor surprised at seeing Nyx, due to the memories he had received. He learned from the Blessing of Knowledge that he reacted that way because of the memories that had been embedded in his psyche.

The creature before him was once a slave to the Dragon God, Vorgath, and it had been with him long enough to know a lot about him. Their relationship grew from just Master-Slave to something more closer, almost like relatives.

They never left each other’s side until the Dragon God’s abrupt disappearance, and all communication between them was lost.

Now Nyx was reunited with Damion, thinking he was the Dragon God in another form.

Damion deduced all this quickly, and he decided to play along. Nyx had some pretty interesting powers after all, and he could put them to good use.

"Where are the rest?" Damion asked after collecting his thoughts. "The other two male and female who were with me?"

Nyx paused, then bobbed up and down as if trying to recollect something. "You were all carried away by someone to this area, before he left."

"He?" Damion’s questioned. "What did he look like?"

"Brown hair, brown eyes, a bored expression on his face, and was wearing the same clothing you and the other male wore."

Damion fell silent. ’Brown hair, eyes, bored..."

Damion gasped. "Melruen!"
