Draconic King of Shadows-Chapter 99: Demons Among Us
Damion’s attention was taken away by a car-sized pillar of lightning suddenly descending from the sky and striking Captain Shodan.
The strike was so sudden and swift that Damion was shocked for a second, unable to react properly.
The dust and smoke from the collision cleared a bit faster than he expected, dispersing with so much force it might as well have been a whipping attack all on its own.
Damion caught a glimpse of a rippling red barrier positioned just above Captain Shodan’s head, and just outside the barrier was Alexia Volt, her feet planted firmly on the barrier, releasing thick bolts of penetrating Moon Lightning.
She pushed off the barrier, shattering it instantly, shooting backwards and flipping through the air. However, using a superior form of electromagnetism, her body’s momentum was altered, and she shot back at Captain Shodan.
"I always knew something was wrong about you!" Alexia’s voice was barely heard above the thundering and explosion of her lightning striking at Captain Shodan.
Damion’s was able to follow Alexia’s movements when she landed in a pillar of lightning, but everything after that became a blur of afterimages, red energy and blue lightning.
A stray bolt of energy tore through the earth, digging up the ground by meters and scattering a rain of shattered rocks and molten earth everywhere.
The ground trembled under the power unleashed by the duo, and Damion had no choice but to retreat.
Fierce winds howled furiously in his ears, and he struggled to get away from the destruction.
The base was torn apart by the two forces clashing, and the Zombie Grunts too close to the base were obliterated en masse.
Damion sensed a large structure flying towards him, and he moved out of its way, letting it crash on the ground ahead of him.
Kenzo and the girls had gone far by now, but Damion wasn’t worried about himself. He was more worried about their safety.
A bolt of red energy shot by Damion’s face, grazing him a little, but it was enough to paralyze his body and stop his movements for two seconds straight.
Unfortunately for him, his paralysis occurred just when a chunk of a huge boulder was flying towards him, and it crashed into his shoulder, dislocating it and sending him flying.
Damion coughed up blood when his rib smashed against the ground, but he didn’t hesitate to roll to the side and pop back to his feet, avoiding being crushed by another boulder.
Damion’s eyes darted behind him for a second, and he glimpsed a red figure clashing with a blue figure, both rebounding upon contact yet charging right back in.
In a split second, more destruction had been caused to the surroundings.
The surrounding hundred meters was dominated by their battle, and Damion was lucky to still be alive.
The feeling of weakness welled up within him, and he remembered the words Teacher Hakuro had spoken to him over a week ago.
"You lost that day, and were bedridden for a whole week. Remember that feeling of weakness, and make sure you strive to never feel it again."
Damion’s shadow invaded his body, and all his skills and stats were doubled instantly, his shoulder popping back into place.
He located Matilda in the increased range of Dragon’s Authority, and he vanished, reappearing from Matilda’s shadow.
This took them by surprise, but Damion ignored them and shot ahead.
They didn’t know where to go, but the current aim of the gang was to get as far away as possible from the battle going on behind them.
They neither knew how long it would last, nor did they know who the victor might be.
If Alexia lost, there was a high chance of them dying to Captain Shodan... the Demon that had sent them on deadly missions.
Coming to think of it. They finally understood why Captain Shodan never showed up when they were in danger. It wasn’t a form of training, like they thought, where they were forced to go all out, unlock their hidden potential and survive no matter what...
Captain Shodan was just trying to get rid of them.
Damion’s mind swirled with multiple thoughts.
How deep was the infiltration of the Demons and Extraterrestrials on Earth?
There would definitely be spies from the Extraterrestrials in the Academy, but what about the Demons?
Captain Shodan had arrived on the Tri-Nexus Plane from the same portal they arrived through, meaning that he had come from the Academy.
Damion’s brow furrowed, and his perception locked onto a speeding individual ahead of them.
"Drax," Damion said loud enough for everyone to hear as he came to a stop.
"What?" Lyra asked from behind.
"Defend yourself," Damion replied as scales erupted from his skin, scaring her.
A tail with a scorpion-like tip burst through his trousers, slamming against the ground, and his nails elongated into deathly-sharp, purple claws.
His pupils narrowed into slits, their purple glow turning darker. Two curved, black horns grew from his forehead, and his teeth sharpened, growing a bit longer.
The changes to his size, muscle mass and density were obvious, and Lyra’s eyes continue to widen.
She paused, taking in the transformation from another angle, only for her to notice Matilda’s transformation too.
If her eyes could widen more, they would definitely have done so and her eyes would have fallen from their sockets, due to her increased shock and confusion.
Where the trio ahead of her still... Humans?
What was happening?
Matilda’s transformation was almost the same as Damion’s... almost.
Long black claws, digitigrade legs ending in deadly-sharp, black claws, glowing green eyes, a thick, tangled hair longer than necessary, a tail the same length as her large body, black scales covering her whole skin, and a pair of horns curving out of her forehead.
She didn’t get on all fours but seemed bipedal and rational. She appeared to have unlocked a better transformation that let her access her full power without losing her reasoning.
Lyra stared at the duo’s backs, wondering when their powers had ever developed this much, Matilda especially. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
She looked over at Kenzo, and she found him standing there calmly, staring ahead.
’At least he’s normal,’ She thought, only for Kenzo’s transformation to occur almost instantly, and a vortex of red flames and silver Qi to start revolving around him and his unsheathed Nodachi.
