Dragon System: Red Dragon Legacy-Chapter 39: The Prophecy
Just as the awkwardness between Orion and Sofia couldn’t get any worse, Lilian finally returned from her meeting with the priestess.
"Everything’s okay?" she asked as she took a seat.
"Yeah... why wouldn’t everything be fine?" Sofia replied, forcing a smile.
"Okay, but why are you both red?" Lilian asked, looking at Orion. "Are you feeling sick?"
"Maybe it’s because of the lights," Orion said quickly.
Lilian remained a little suspicious, but she didn’t think too much of it.
"By the way," Sofia said, eager to change the subject, "what did you talk about with the priestess?"
"Nothing much... nothing that concerns you," Lilian replied, turning her head away.
Orion immediately understood that whatever Lilian had discussed with the priestess wasn’t good news.
"Wow, rude," Sofia said with a pout. "You could’ve just said, ’It’s a secret,’ you know."
Lilian yawned. "I think we should get going. I’m feeling a bit sleepy," she said, glancing at Orion.
"Yeah, I think we should," Orion agreed as he stood up. Turning to Sofia, he added, "By the way, Sofia, it was a pleasure meeting you."
Sofia’s face reddened again. "Y–yeah. You too."
Lilian noticed their strange behavior and decided to ask Orion about it later.
They left the building after a long day. Too tired to walk, they called a carriage. They offered Sofia a ride home since she lived nearby, but she refused, saying she still had to meet someone.
"This place looks good at night," Orion muttered as the carriage passed through the market. "It feels more alive than during the day."
"You’re right," Lilian agreed. After a brief pause, she added, "By the way... what happened between you and Sofia? You two were acting strange."
Orion turned toward Lilian and saw the seriousness in her expression. He knew he couldn’t dodge the question this time, so he fell back on his usual tactic—telling the truth, but vaguely.
"What do you mean? Nothing really happened," he said. "Well... she was a little flirtatious, and I might’ve flirted back. And Things might have gone a bit far, I guess."
"How far?" Lilian asked, her eyes darkening slightly.
Orion hesitated, then answered carefully. "Nothing serious. She tried to kiss me as a joke, but I stopped her."
Lilian sighed. "That sounds like Sofia. She likes teasing men. She even dates men just to break up with them and see how they react. In her defense, she was spoiled rotten by her parents—like most noble children—and she doesn’t realize how much pain she causes to others."
Orion nodded. "Thanks for the warning. I’ll stay away from her as much as I can from now on."
Soon, they reached their house. Lilian went straight to her room, and Orion did the same.
Axl and Max greeted him the moment he entered.
"Kuuuu!"
"Kuuuu!"
"Hey, guys... how was your day?"
"Kuuuh!"
They jumped around Orion, clearly wanting him to play with them.
"Guys, I understand you had a boring day, but I had a pretty crazy day, and I’m exhausted. I really need some sleep," Orion said with a tired smile. "I’m afraid that’s it for today."
"Kuuuuu..." they whined.
"I’m sorry, guys."
After Max and Axl finally calmed down, he lay on the bed. But even after half an hour of tossing and turning, sleep refused to come. His thoughts kept drifting back to his encounter with Sofia.
He groaned softly and sat up. His mind was restless, so he decided to take a cold shower to calm himself.
His lust for some reason already intensified since he came to this world, but after the encounter with Sofia, it had gotten uncomfortably worse.
One cold shower wasn’t enough to calm Orion down, so he took another.
While Orion struggled to find rest, Lilian was awake as well.
She lay in bed, thinking about her outing with Orion. It had been far more enjoyable than she had expected. Not only that, but she also noticed how comforting and wonderful it felt just to be near him. She realized she had developed some kind of feelings toward him—but she couldn’t tell whether it was love or something else. For now, she decided to wait and see.
Then she remembered her conversation with the priestess, and her expression immediately turned gloomy.
Flashback
"Lilian, what I’m about to tell you is extremely confidential," the priestess said. "You must not tell anyone."
"O–okay," Lilian swallowed. It was rare to see the priestess this serious.
"You know the prophecy about the Demon Queen, don’t you?" the priestess asked.
"Yes. That one day her seal will break and bring about an apocalypse?"
Lilian’s eyes widened.
’Is that why she called me? Has the Demon Queen’s seal already broken?’ She thought.
"Don’t worry," the priestess said calmly. "It hasn’t broken... yet. But the goddess has sent us an oracle. The seal will break soon, and we must prevent it."
"But how?" Lilian asked, fear creeping into her voice. "The location of her seal was lost long ago. Even if we found it, how could we stop it?"
"You’re right—we can’t find the location," the priestess admitted. Then her eyes lit up. "But the prophecy most people know is incomplete. It never says the seal breaks on its own. It says someone will break it."
Lilian frowned. "Then how do we know who that person is?"
"You won’t have to look for them," the priestess replied. "That person will announce their presence on their own."
Seeing Lilian’s confusion, she continued, "Imagine someone powerful enough to rival all the heroes at once. No matter how careful they are, they can’t stay hidden forever."
She sighed. "All we can do is wait."
"I understand," Lilian said quietly and prepared to leave.
"Wait. I haven’t told you the main reason I summoned you."
Lilian’s eyes narrowed. "Then what is it?"
"To prepare the hero candidates for what’s coming, we’re dividing their training into two camps. One will be hosted by our academy, the other in Macron. We’ll host four candidates here. Macron will host three."
"I understand."
"When the other three candidates arrive, it will be your responsibility to look after them," the priestess added.
Lilian sighed internally. She wasn’t looking forward to it—she knew how arrogant and pretentious the other heroes could be.
"I understand. I’ll do my best."
With that, she left the room, a million thoughts running through her mind.
Flashback ends
Back to the present.
Lilian lay awake, conflicted. She wanted to understand what her feelings for Orion truly meant.
But the priestess’s warning weighed heavily on her mind. Whatever was coming would keep her busy for a long time.
She sighed softly and finally closed her eyes, deciding to rest—for today.
