He lay down on the bed, moving his head upward. Moonlight fell across his face through the window.

He gazed at the shining moon and the endless, beautiful sky.

What in the world is going on?

He sank into deep thought.

On Earth, evening.

"Bye. See you tomorrow," Ayane said to her friends in front of the apartment.

"Bye," they replied.

She entered the building and stopped in front of an apartment door. She hesitated—should she ring the bell or not? Finally, she decided to ring it.

It’s no use... he’s not here.

A boy stood in the shadows.

"Who are you?" Ayane asked, feeling a bit uneasy.

"Don’t worry. It’s me." Almus stepped forward into the light.

"Almus-san? Why are you here?"

"Shouldn’t I ask you the same question?’’almus replied,

’’So many days have passed. Nawfi-chan hasn’t come to school. I came here to check on him... to see if he’s okay."She blushed and she asked Almus,"And you?"

"Well, me too. Where the hell did that bastard go?Who knows?’’ Almus said, his voice irritated as he looked at Ayane, ’’He should have told me before going to... die."

Ayane stood silently, looking a bit sad.

"Don’t worry, he’s fine. Before he left a few days ago, he told me he wanted to visit his grandparents’ home. He’s probably there, enjoying his life... that damn bastard."

"Really? He told you that?" Ayane asked, her voice unexpectedly bright.

"Ye...ah..." Almus replied, a bit confused by her reaction.

"That’s a relief," she said, seeming genuinely relieved.

"Sorry, I didn’t mean to..." she added, feeling embarrassed.

"Don’t worry about that. I’m going to... contact his grandparents’ home and inform you later," Almus said, turning to leave.

Almus was almost gone, but he stopped and called back.

"One last thing," he said.

Ayane stayed in the same spot, watching him.

"What do you think about Nawfi?" Almus asked. "I mean... in terms of a relationship."

"Oh... that’s... I..." She looked down at the ground, embarrassed and confused.

"I don’t know what happened between you two on February 14..." Almus added quietly.

She looked straight at Almus, expression blank, no smile. Shocked and confused.

"You shouldn’t have rejected him... so... mercilessly. Well, it’s your life and your choice. I don’t want to interfere... but, you know... he was really sad."

"Wait... that..." Ayane tried to say.

"I wish you don’t interfere with his life anymore. Don’t make him suffer. Goodbye."Almus didn’t look back once.He spoke firmly and left.

Ayane stood there, frozen, completely shocked.

She remembered being inside the classroom,

"Ayano-san, I like you. Please... go out with me," Ichiro-san asked.

"I like you too, Ichiro-san," Ayane replied—and then noticed someone. She might have been seen.

"Thank you for accepting me, Ayane-san," Ichiro said, happy, looking at her.

Ayane said something quietly to Ichiro-san, then didn’t wait for a response and left after their talk.

"Ayane-san..." Ichiro called out, standing there alone, watching her go.

Ayane stepped outside the door. There was no one around.

She noticed a rose lying on the ground and picked it up. A wave of nostalgia filled her heart.

After Almus left, she found herself kneeling in front of Nawfi’s apartment.

"Uh...ahh"

Tears began to fall as she realized that the person who had come to the classroom with the rose was none other than Nawfi.

Under the dim corridor light, Ayane cried alone, her sadness spilling freely.
