Chapter 78: His Own Blood

"Oh my God! I can’t believe I’m going to be Mrs Erica Blakewood!" A woman’s voice along with the sound of high heels hitting the floors interrupted Tristan’s words, causing him to frown and stand up straight just as Erica came into view.

"Oh darling, we’re getting married! I’m going to be your wife!"

It wasn’t known if she saw the little girl close to him or not, but Erica ignored the other presence around and threw herself into Tristan’s arms hugging him tightly.

Blakewood?

Leah thought wth disappointment in her young eyes.

Her real Daddy’s name wasn’t Blakewood, it was Grayson.

It seemed she was wrong, this man wasn’t her Daddy after all.

Tristan suppressed the irritation welling up inside him at the knowledge that they were out in public, he gently pushed Erica out of his arms and glanced down at the child next to him.

Erica stiffened slightly at the fact that he’d ignored her. But when she looked down at the ring around her finger, her face brightened up in a smile again and she didn’t seem offended by it or interested in who the little girl he was talking to could be.

"That is your mother?" Tristan asked to make sure, looking at the woman the girl had just pointed to and she nodded in confirmation.

For some reason there seemed to be some disappointment in the kid’s eyes and he found himself wanting to do something to make the child happy but he stopped that thought.

He shouldn’t get attached to a strange child he met on the streets. Since when had he been this soft?

When Tristan looked towards the child’s mother, he could only see her back, but he wondered what sort of mother would leave her own child behind like that.

"Goodbye." Leah waved at him and without another warning turned to run to her fake mother.

Leah had randomly pointed at a woman standing in the distance, she stopped running abruptly turning around to look at the tall man regretfully for a moment.

He looked nice, she would have wanted him as her Daddy. At least he liked her, unlike the man who didn’t want her or her brother.

Leah waved at him enthusiastically and he seemed to hesitate for a second before he raised his hand to wave back from far away, only then did Leah run off to the random woman.

Tristan watched as the girl ran off to her mother, the woman bent down and hugged the girl. Maybe she had really gotten lost, it was a good thing she found her mother again.

A faint smile lifted his lips as he watched the child from the distance. All the displeasure that had accumulated in him today seemed to have slowly melted away when the little girl had been around him.

For the first time in his life, Tristan found a kid adorable. In the past he would think they were high maintenance and too much trouble but right now, strangely something inside him wondered what it would be like to have one.

A child, his own blood...

Watching the girl seemed to make that thought tolerable when he would never have entertained such an idea. He didn’t seem to want to leave, his eyes remained on the girl interacting with her mother.

It was only at this moment that Erica seemed to notice how strange this situation was. Tristan hated kids, why did he keep looking at this kid.

"Whose kid is that, why were you talking to her?" Erica asked as her fingers clutched his arm and she plastered her body against his as her gaze on the child slowly showed displeasure.

The serene look in Tristan’s eyes quickly disappeared, irritatedly he turned his head to glance down at Erica.

"Since when has it been your job to know who I talk to and why?" He uttered these words hardly, making it clear that the ring around her finger changed nothing, nor did it give her leverage into knowing his every move or actions.

Not seeing a random child as any threat, Erica looked away from the kid’s direction and smiled deciding to ignore the harshness in his voice and words. She was still in an incredibly good mood because of this engagement and she couldn’t suddenly ruin it. She immediately decided to cover up her question which had displeased him by saying,

"Are you looking forward to having kids already? We can start building our family as soon as you want. How many kids do you want to have?" Erica continued to cling onto him already dreaming up scenarios that hadn’t happened yet. The feeling of finally being engaged to the man she loved was too thrilling.

She used to think Tristan hated children, but judging from the way he just interacted with a child on the streets, it made her feel like she might have been wrong. Since that was the case then she was eager to become the mother of his children to solidify their future together.

However, what she heard from the man was a cold scoff. One that seemed to have ice shards which immediately cut through the quiet dreams she had in her mind.

"It’s better if you keep your expectations minimal, you signed the contract didn’t you? There won’t be a family between us, and there certainly won’t be children in this transaction. Once my goals are met you will sign the divorce papers just like you signed the contract two hours ago. Are we going to have a problem in the future about this matter?"

When Erica’s eyes rose up to meet his own she almost cowered, those eyes were too sharp, too unfeeling and the slammed her back to reality. Slowly, Erica retracted her hands which were clutching onto him and pulled backwards quietly.

This engagement...it was nothing but a contract between them, and she had signed it just a few hours ago.

’We will get married and apply for a divorce right after, in a few months the court will approve the divorce and everything will go back to normal. If you’re not interested in this transaction say so, I’ll find someone else.’ Those words had sounded as cold as the ones he just said to her.

Erica wouldn’t be able to stand seeing a possibility of him being with someone else again. This chance had landed right on her laps, how could she let it go? How could she let go of the man she had loved and wanted for years now?

Erica had snatched up the contract and signed it without even wasting a moment to think?

A fake marriage? She would make it real. One thing was certain in her heart, once she became Mrs Blakewood, she would never walk out of it. Once she became his wife, he would be hers and she would never let him go.

"I’m sorry for getting ahead of myself." Erica said lowering her head.

The charged displeasure and the harshness of Tristan’s silence made Erica almost felt like she couldn’t breathe. Such unfamiliarity and distance between her and the man who just put a ring on her finger made something painful clench her heart.

"Erm... president, we need to go back to the office to check on the project files you tasked the finance department to deliver. Unless you want to leave that for tomorrow..."

"No need, we’re going back to work right now."

Kaleb had been the one to remind him, but he was literally wailing on the inside.

Couldn’t a man get time to rest? Why the hell did he have to work with a boss who was so obsessed with work and his company?

Though it had been refreshing to see a new side of his boss in the way he interacted with that child.

Speaking of that kid, she had been very adorable and Kaleb still couldn’t shake off the similarity he saw in her appearance and the president.

Turning towards the direction where the kid had been standing with her mother, Kaleb sighted the woman still standing by the road seemingly on a phone call but the kid was no longer around her.

That was weird...where did her daughter go so fast?

The child had been there just a while ago, but now she was gone...
