Dungeon of Niflheim-Chapter 765 : Gatekeeper Yule
"Gatekeeper!" The Gatekeeper's act of healing Frost was not missed by the Artic Zu, and the act filled it with extreme rage.
'Why is he healing that bug?' Frost was his prey, an ant that insulted its prestige as King of the skies and dared to wound its body.
It wanted to immediately attack, to erase Frost, the Gatekeeper's presence be damned, but it knew that such an action would result in a quick death.
Here in the air, at a fair distance it was still relatively safe.
Hearing the jarring voice of the Artic Zu an expression of irritation appeared on the Gatekeeper's features.
'So it's this damn turkey that roused me from my rest.' The Gatekeeper had a very poor opinion of the Artic Zu and if it was up to him he would have killed it years ago but unfortunately his role was a passive one, strictly an observer, nothing more.
The Artic Zu's loud voice was heard by Frost as well and in response he readied himself for battle once more.
The Gatekeeper however moved firmly in front of him as though shielding him.
Frost's confusion only continued to grow with each of the Gatekeeper's actions but at least he could assume that he wasn't an enemy.
"You launch an attack on the Great Door and now you roar in my presence who gave you such reckless arrogance!" The Gatekeeper responded with an even louder bellow, a voice so loud and so heavily laced with aura that the Artic Zu froze in place. A cold sweat flowing down its feathers as fear grasped its heart.
Unbeknownst to it, it even fell slightly, descending several tens of metres before once again flapping its wings and hovering in place.
"I…I…I meant no disrespect Gatekeeper I was just momentarily confused by your actions." The Artic Zu quickly scrambled to explain itself before glancing behind the Gatekeeper.
"I had forgotten where you resided and foolishly chased my prey into your domain." The Zu donned a look of hunger as it emphasized the words 'my' and 'prey'.
Despite being intimidated by the Gatekeeper it still tried to assert itself, identifying Frost as its possession and of his lowly status.
'The Gatekeeper must just be momentarily confused by the situation, his healing being a notion of kindness or an attempt to better understand the situation.' The Artic Zu failed to hear what the Gatekeeper said to Frost previously and thus came to such a conclusion.
So confident in its assumption and its own status as king of the skies it didn't see the glint in the Gatekeeper's three eyes. Its words had angered him.
The Gatekeeper tilted his head and turned around to question Frost.
"Are its words true, did it hunt you here?"
"….Yes." Frost replied awkwardly noticing a certain playful quality in the Gatekeeper's gaze.
'He seems happy and…mischievous.'
The Gatekeeper turned back to the hovering Artic Zu looking as serious and imposing as possible. "So your attack was directed at this young man here and not the Great Door."
"Correct Gatekeeper" The Artic Zu felt the urge to wipe its brow of accumulated sweat as it responded. Being stared at by this being in such a serious manner strained its nerves greatly.
However believing that the most tempestuous issue was now resolved the Artic Zu hoped that the Gatekeeper would return to where he came from and thus allow it to continue its hunt.
The King of the skies once again revealed its anger towards Frost, an emotion that had only grown after being intimated by the Gatekeeper. It laid all blame on Frost's shoulders.
Unfortunately although the issue had been resolved the outcome was the exact opposite of what it envisioned.
Before the Artic Zu even knew what happened the area around it had been locked and a pair of massive flamelike hands appeared either side of it, taking hold of its mighty wings.
"Gatekeeper?" Confused and terrified the Zu questioned the man floating above the ground, his three eyes glaring in its direction.

"Mmn that should be just the right amount of justification, his Majesty shouldn't reprimand me if I make a move now." Below the Gatekeeper's three flaming eyes a mouth appeared, stretching from one side of his face to the other in a pleasurable fashion.
The Gatekeeper had waited a long time to enact his revenge. The damn turkey had tested his patience and authority multiple times of the past several decades but none of them were enough to justify a reaction.
Now however the beast had gone to far.
Not only did it launch an aggressive attack on/near the Door that he was in charge of guarding, but it dared to hunt the Prince, his King's valued guest. Finally he had enough reason to pluck the damn turkey from the skies.
Suddenly a pressure far beyond the limits of someone at the A-rank pressed against the Artic Zu, firmly locking him in place as the two flaming hands started to draw closer together.
"Die!"
"WA…Squelch!" The Artic Zu desperately tried to plead for mercy, but the Gatekeeper held no intention in listening to its cries. Before it could even finish a single syllable the two flaming hands pressed together, turning its body into a crude meat paste.
The once powerful Artic Zu, King of the skies over this region was killed in an instant, like a bug under the wheel of a carriage.
Frost watched on in awe as the two flaming hands twisted and rubbed together leaving no bone left in a solid state before breaking apart, dropping whatever remained of the Artic Zu's body onto the cold hard ground.
'Just like that? The monster that so easily crushed all my defences with but a single blow -one that wasn't even considered strong by its standards- is dead.' Once again Frost was reminded of how weak he truly was in this massive world. Just the inner regions of the Glacial mountains alone were enough of an eye-opener.
Frost had an incessant urge to grow stronger, to reach the very peak of the world and eventually transcend it like his father and the other Gods. Only then would he and his family be safe from harm.
A long, difficult and probably perilous road but one he was determined to travel.
"Good riddance hmph." The Gatekeeper loudly hmphed and nodded his head in satisfaction. Today was such a good day.
"I apologise for the events you've had to suffer to get here young Prince, hopefully the death of that damn turkey will sooth your anger." After making 100% sure that the Artic Zu was dead the Gatekeeper turned to Frost and bowed his head in a subservient manner.
"..."
"..." There was a brief silence between the two of them before Frost responded with an exaggerated "Huh?"
"Prince Frost?" The Gatekeeper was now confused as well.
"Stop….First who are you? Why did you help me? And why are you calling me Prince?" Frost quickly took a step back and rattled off his three most immediate questions.
"Oh where are my manners." The Gatekeeper wasn't offended by Frost's tone and proceeded to answer.
"My name is Yule and I'm the Gatekeeper of the Door behind us, an entrance to the realm of Niflheim." His duty was to protect the Door and watch over the developments of the surrounding region.
"Niflheim! This is the secret entrance to the realm of the Primordial Ice King?" Frost loudly said in a fit of shock, his hand aggressively pointing at the large structure behind them that still held a large blotch and trail of his blood.
He and Kiba had been searching far and wide for it for days, hoping that they'd magically come across it as they desperately ran from the Artic Zu.
A hope that seems to have borne fruit.
"Yes it is." The Gatekeeper or rather Yule nodded his head in agreement, puzzled by Frost's crazy like behaviour.
Feeling as though he was being looked at with judgemental eyes Frost lightly coughed as he calmed himself down and gestured for Yule to continue.
"The Primordial Ice King has been awaiting your arrival and told me to be on the lookout for someone matching your exact description." Yule unlike normal was actively monitoring the Door and the immediate area in anticipation of his arrival thus the moment the Door felt a reaction he instantly revealed himself.
"You've being waiting for me….For how long?" His arrival time was not sent in stone. Only when he felt that the Niflheim city-state and his Dungeon were in a good position did he decide to carry out this long journey.
"Days, weeks maybe even a couple months, hard to keep track of these things once you reach my age hehehe." Yule laughed not bothered by the wait in the slightest.
"But none of that matters now, you're here so the King will surely be overjoyed." Yule nodded his head in appreciation, truly happy that he managed to so easily complete the task delegated to him by the Primordial Ice King.
Frost felt a little guilty about making Yule and the Primordial Ice King wait so long but since Yule wasn't bothered by it he didn't linger on the matter.
"So you helped me because I'm a guest." For a powerful individual like Yule to kill a being like the Artic Zu just because he'd been invited to the realm of Niflheim was quite lavish and a service he greatly appreciated.
"Yes and no. A regular guest wouldn't warrant such actions, but you are different. You are a Prince on top of being a highly valued guest, so I deigned it appropriate to heal your wounds and abused your position to justify my killing of that annoying turkey." The pleasurable smile formed of silver flames once again donned Yule's face.
"…I see." Said Frost feeling that the main reason for Yule aiding him was due to his own grudge with the Artic Zu rather than his own supposed status.
