Chapter 214: Holding the Western Front

Leonhardt asked them to hold until he returned, that the conquest of the Orcs beyond the basin would come only then. At first, Asuka, Sylvie, and even Erina held a small belief that they could do it without him.

The dark elves with their honed bodies built for combat, and the massive forest that allowed them to use all their skills without issues.

However, when it came to war and survival, nothing was for sure.

"Hold the western wall, and we can endure their attack!"

Asuka’s deep voice reverberated through the air as she tried to bolster morale. Since losing their champions, the Orcs had become more desperate and violent with each subsequent battle.

They stopped caring about survival if it meant they could take an elf with them. Asuka knew they had been pushed into a corner, desperate to survive. Asuka thought they had become more like animals, the longer this continued. However, she knew better than to underestimate them.

"Fight back!"

She cut through the air, using her greatsword to cleave through an orc’s head, killing it in a single stroke.

The orc’s filthy blood stained her red kimono even darker. She didn’t even look back at the corpse of her enemy while stepping forward, continuing her aggression as an orc smashed a dark elf off the wall with a brutal club.

The sound of bone cracking, flesh tearing filled the dragonoid’s ears as she narrowed her golden eyes.

With a shout, her body began to glow as her mana whistled through her veins, ’This is thanks to his love...’ If it was before, she couldn’t feel this flow, like an ocean of energy surging through her body, crackling around her like red lightning. Her form became like a blur as she crossed over 10 meters instantly.

"Erina!" Asuka called out to the saintess, someone who had once seemed weak, relying on her holy powers.

Yet now...

Erina stood at the wall, her staff with sharp blades on either end swirling through the air, lacking the aura of Asuka. Instead, she wrapped her body and weapon in a divine aura, sharpened to create the deadliest weapons against monsters and evil. "Fall!" Her face was sharper, her lips dry, and her abdomen tight, with faint muscles.

The woman who stood here wasn’t the soft Erina at the mercy of Leonhardt’s affection. The new Erina wanted to be more than a damsel or a useless saintess candidate with no power.

"Follow me!" Beside her, a group of dark elves wielding their bows, covering the priestess wearing the native dark elf clothing, a tight leather leotard, with exposed legs wrapped in silk that danced with each movement she made, along with black thigh-high boots designed to carry multiple knives.

"Saintess!"

"Protect the Saintess!"

"Kill the orcs!"

The once peaceful forest became the scene of carnage.

The trees were burning, with the corpses of both sides, dark elves and orcs, scattered on the ground.

At first, the dark elves and three women struggled against an endless horde of orcs that sought only to kill, crush, and destroy everything they laid eyes on. It was a desperate attempt to hold the wall that protected their forest, homes, and people.

The Orcs attacked with brutal weapons, showing no mercy or quarter as they sought to overrun the defences.

"Haa..." With a sigh, Erina ripped her bladed staff from an orc’s throat, the squirt of blood spraying across her cheek, as she looked down at the fallen with an icy glare. "Filthy, pig!"

’To think I was against this at first, worried about the goddess and these animals!’

Erina once aimed to be kind and loving, even if they were enemies. Yet, after seeing these monsters’ brutality, she had no desire to remain soft.

Not only did they attempt to drag elves back to their camp to torture them, but when faced with no other choice, these filthy creatures would eat their kind to restore their wounds and keep fighting.

"Ack!"

A dark elf’s head flung back, a war axe buried in her forehead, killing her instantly.

Erina’s expression was cold as she glared at the offender.

The orc was massive and ripped. One eye, the other gouged out with a scar, and he had many wounds that had since closed, which made him look almost comical.

"Gul DaDan Challenges the Human!"

"Cut the talk, let’s fight!"

Twirling the dual-ended staff, Erina’s small body lowered as she took a deep breath, focused on the massive orc. ’Compared to him... to Leon, this monster is nothing!’ The trembling priestess was nowhere to be seen; only a fierce woman stood, her sharp aura sharpened to a point.

Her emerald eyes were sharp as daggers, her cute face not showing a hint of hesitation or fear.

"Assist the East, protect Sylvie!" Erina called out, her body swelling with a golden light that grew and grew before exploding in a massive burst. The warm light healed the dark elves, sealing shallow cuts, blocking deep wounds, and giving them a second breath.

The Orcs reeled back, some falling from the wall, their eyes burning from the holy aura.

Erina lunged at Gul, who roared, swinging his axe over his head.

"DIE!"

"Those are my words!"

***

A deathly chill spread through the eastern wall, and in the centre, a beautiful white fairy stood with arms spread, a snowy blizzard wrapped around her. All the dark elves wore tight fur, covering their bodies in wolf armour.

"It seems that they are truly aiming to conquer the second wall this time." Sylvie’s ice blue eyes shimmered with mana as she snapped her fingertips, five sharp icicles flinging at the orcs who tried to jump onto the wall, penetrating their heads.

The monsters’ thick skin was useless against those attacks, dropping dead with a thump.

"Let them try." A deep, seductive voice replied beside Sylvie.

"Asuka?"

The dragonoid rested her giant sword on one shoulder, letting her fiery aura melt any ice that came close. "The north and south are fine, just the east and west." Asuka narrowed her gaze at a particular orc. "I’ll deal with them."

"Asuka!"

Sylvie watched as Asuka lunged towards an orc chief covered in spikes, his aura terrifying and thick, like a bulwark that seemed impervious, his weapon a greatclub.

"Don’t worry, focus on their warriors!"

"Okay..." Sylvie bit her bottom lip. Asuka had grown far more confident than before, which was good. Yet Sylvie couldn’t help but think about Leon. He gave her everything, allowed her to surpass the inferior feelings and limits that ensured she would never rise to the top, and now her mana could last hours. Through training with the dark elves, she found her speciality.

One versus many combat.

"Frost Unit, follow me."

The frost unit that Sylvie asked Nyxara to form.

A unit of dark elves who fought with Sylvie often eventually gained the [Frost Resistance] passive skill, allowing them to survive the extreme temperature that wrapped her body.

"Prepare to charge into their ranks."

"Oooh!" The dark elves were all women and seemed accustomed to Sylvie’s tactics, letting a cold aura envelop their bodies. novelbuddy-cσ๓

[Ice Nova]

With a low chant, the area of the wall and the ten metres around it froze immediately, the mana leaking from Sylvie’s feet and her pores... the ice coating the floor grew thicker and sharper. "Move!"

The elves began to slide on the ice, as if they were skating, their long legs spread, sharp blades attached to the bottom of their shoes, forming pseudo ice skates.

’This idea was his, my dear husband... he who gave us all a path to follow.’

Sylvie’s love for Leonhardt bordered on obsession and worship.

A territory of ice formed, catching the orcs trying to climb the walls off guard, freezing in place as they were skewered by the frost unit’s blades, their feet slashing across the orcs’ necks like guillotines. The Orcs panicked; their thick skulls were no longer their main advantage, which made them weak.

"Wipe out the reinforcements!"

Meanwhile, Asuka’s sword cut through the air with a blue flash.

Clang!

The orc chief’s stone club caught the blade with a brilliant spark of light, his old, wrinkled face grinning, a sense of amusement evident in his narrowed eyes.

Asuka had fought the Orcs multiple times, and for some reason, her presence would always draw their attention, making her fights far harder. At first, they faced her with great hatred, but that soon changed to admiration and obsession.

"Lizard woman, give up and serve me!"

"Go to hell, you damn orc!" The flame in Asuka’s eyes burned even hotter as she pushed back against the stone club. "I am his woman, and no one else!"

"I’m jealous of that man!"

To Orcs, a valiant woman was the best partner.

A symbol of both fertility and honour.

The chief was no different, but cunning, unlike other Orcs. ’She has a lot of mana... If she gives birth to my kids, won’t they be strong?’ Those were his thoughts, but he didn’t just want Asuka; he tried to capture them all.

However, their devotion and strength overwhelmed them.

Watching this battle, Zafira sat on a treetop with a yawn. She leaned against her palm, wondering where the so-called danger was.

"How tedious..."

Maybe she shouldn’t have tempted fate... because the moment she spoke, the air began to stir, a black mana tore through the sunny sky and ripped it open.

A gateway opened.
