Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 370: The lost cat Part 1
Bobby counted the days left until his birthday with so much enthusiasm it was driving his parents crazy. He was so excited he would have counted the hours, the minutes even, but his math skills were lacking even for a kid his age.
"Can I get my present now?"
"No, you can’t sweetie." His mom replied.
"Can I have cake today?"
"No, you’ll have to wait until friday." This time it was his dad’s turn to answer, but in spite of their efforts to get his son to understand that he needed to be patient, Bobby kept insisting over and over.
Bobby knew the days of the week, but ’friday’ was an abstract concept for him and not an actual measure of time. But his parents weren’t the only ones annoyed as Bobby felt that the more he asked, the slower time passed and all he wanted was to celebrate his birthday already.
On that particular night, Bobby was especially impatient and when his parents tucked him into bed he couldn’t keep himself from insisting.
"Is tomorrow my birthday?"
"No, it’s not... you need to wait five more days." Mom replied with a smile on her face.
"Why can’t it be my birthday tomorrow?"
"Come on, Champ, stop pestering your mom. We got you a huge gift, but you have to be patient, okay?"
"Darling! Stop feeding his imagination, he needs to sleep now!"
"Woops!" Dad opened his eyes wide and covered his mouth in a funny manner, triggering Bobby’s laughter.
After turning off the lights and making sure Bobby was comfortable, both parents exited the room leaving him to his dreams of a perfect birthday and after only a few minutes where he thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep, his eyes closed and he began snoring softly.

It was a night like any other, he went to bed at the usual time, his parents tucked him in like usual and Bobby slept like a log, but that only lasted until a strange noise woke up him. He rubbed his eye trying to listen to the sound that woke him up, but everything was silent.
He placed his feet on the soft carpet, but since it was dark he quickly pulled them back because he didn’t want the monster under the bed to grab his feet. A thought like that wasn’t uncommon at all for children his age and for a couple seconds he thought of calling his parents, but his dad would be mad at him for being awake at such hours and decided to go back to sleep.
He closed his eyes and tried to remember the wonderful dream he was having before waking up, but then the strange noise repeated itself, only now he was fully awake.
"What’s that?" It was like a moan or a cry, but it was something he never heard before so he leaned on the window trying to identify the source of the noise.
There, on the backyard of his luxurious three story house on the east district, right on top of the marbled fountain a strange furry creature was sitting down in an odd position. It was furry, odd shaped, with retractable claws and protruding fangs.
"It looks dangerous, but sounds so sad." He muttered to himself as though trying to justify what he was about to do. He opened the window and headed outside, walking in a straight like to the ball of fur that remained completely still until he was close enough to be bitten by it. Then, the creature opened his fanged maw and emitted a sound Bobby never heard before.
"Meow..." The cat poked at Bobby with its head and began purring.
It was an old gray cat that showed signs of having a harsh life, probably running away from the slum dwellers that wanted him dead. Like any stray cat, it didn’t trust humans, but Bobby was different. He was smaller and didn’t seem to have any hostility towards it, because of that the cat allowed the kid to pet him and even lift it up in his arms.
"I’m going to call you ’Gift’ because it’s my birthday... or it will be soon." The first thing Bobby did after naming the cat was to sneak in the kitchen and grab a plate of scraps to feed the cat.
"Meow!" The cat replied.
The next day Bobby spent all the time he could with the cat, he bathed him, fed him and even slept with him which didn’t sit well with Bobby’s dad.
"Hey, darling, don’t you think our son is acting weird?" He asked.
"He’s been pestering us for weeks and now that he’s finally stopped you’re complaining? Who can understand men?" The woman let out a chuckle.
"I know, but I spent so much for his present and the party and now he doesn’t care. In two days we’ll have a lot of people over and if he acts like this we’ll be embarrassed."
"Don’t worry, he’s just having fun with a cat he..." The woman quickly covered her mouth realizing her blunder, but it was too late. She knew her husband well, she knew how appearances meant everything to him and that he could even get violent when he wasn’t in control. The only reason why she let Bobby keep the cat was because she couldn’t find it no matter how hard she tried.
"A cat!? When did he get a cat!?"
"It was just a couple days ago, I tried to get rid of it but... No, please, calm yourself before..."
"There’s no way he’s keeping that thing! I’ll take care of it!" The man shouted angrily and left his wife crying in the room.
Bobby was inside his room playing hide and seek with Gift when his father entered, red faced and carrying a shotgun.
"Where’s that damned thing!? I’ll get rid of it immediately!"
"Dad! No! Please! He’s innocent!" The child cried, but his father was having none of it.
"You can’t have a pet without permission, let alone a stray cat! Who knows where has that thing been before! Where is it? I asked you a question!" The man screamed making Bobby flinch.
It wasn’t the first time his father acted like that, Bobby too knew his character well and was aware of the consequences of having a pet without permission.
"He’s... under the bed..." Bobby cried.
The man crouched to look for the cat, but then he muttered what would be his last words.
"That’s not a fucking cat!"
