As soon as the parts Uriel had asked from the army were finished, Cassandra set up a 'rescue team', though its true purpose was to explore the bayou and try to put an end to the cryptids siege on the city.

Every city had their own version of the rangers to protect them from outside threats, but when it came to incursions the army was the one responsible since they had world wide resources at their disposal.

Whenever a city was in danger they dispatched a heavenly rank unit led by a colonel, along with several captains with their own ascended teams. And they would only be allowed to return to their home city until they either accomplish their mission as heroes or if they fall on the line of duty as a small urn containing ashes.

This kind of mission usually lasted from six months up to two years, but Cassandra couldn't afford to be away from some for so long and the main reason for that was Luna.

After running away from home they were all each other had, they went through thin and thick together. Cassandra knew her sister was more than capable of surviving on her own, but she was socially awkward and also very emotionally weak. Protecting Luna had been her personal mission for so long it had become the very meaning of her life and she coulldn't fathom being away for so long.

"Tsk! If only she joined the army with me when I told her to." She bit the tip of her fingernail in frustration.

"What's wrong?" Iris telepathiclaly asked by her side.

"It's nothing, is the unit ready to depart?"

"Yes, we have two heavenly rank captains at the ready, but there's an issue..."

"Issue? What issue?" Cassandra furrowed her brow causing Iris to fall into panic.

"The troublemakers are here and they want to speak with you, but we..."

"Oh! Why didn't you start with that? I bet they're here to thank me for sending Sage with them and to praise him." A smile dawned on Cassandra's face as she gestured Iris to open the door and the corporals were let in.

"Colonel Sword!" They formed a line and saluted with respect. They were known troublemakers in the army ranks, but they weren't stupid. They knew about Colonel's Sword fiery temper and knew that disrespecting her was the same as forfeiting their lives.

"I'm busy, but if you're here to compliment Lieutenant Sage's performance I'll pass on the message before he sets off."

"Compliment!? As if we would do something like that!" Rusty said in a scoff, but swiftly tuned down his hostility. "I mean, we're here to make an official complaint."

"A what now?" Cassandra asked as she rummaged through the papers on her desk until she found the mission report and then continued. "Did he not lead the mission to success?"

"That he did, but..."

"Didn't you all come back alive and kicking?"

"Alive? Yes. Kicking? not so much." Rusty showed the stump where his leg used to be. In spite of his powerful trait, he was an evolved and as such his body woudn't heal from such an injure.

"I see, that's unfortunate, but why are you blaming Lt. Sage?" Cassandra asked and this time it was Mayhem's turn to complain.

"He's incompetent, inept, doesn't have a sense of humor and he extorted 20 credits from me!"

"He extorted money out of you?" Cassandra was tempted to deny it, but after spending enough time around Uriel it was impossible to miss his greedy nature.

"And he's very violent!" Young added.

"Well, there's no denying that. He's a bit on the wild side," Cassandra heaved a sigh, silently pondering if that wild side of his would also apply in bed and then went back to her professional face. "Is anything on the report false?"

"No, not really." Young replied.

"Then, why are you complaining? We've been stuck for months trying to explore the bayous to the west and this mission was the first progress we've seen. Now we know there's a safe haven and we also know the kind of cryptid that's been attacking our hovercrafts and we also learned how to detect and defeat them. If all that is correct, then why are you crying to me?"

"It's because that bastard left us alone! If he was with us, none of this would have happened!" Rusty made hs best effort to remain calm, but he couldn't control his anger. Now that he was disabled, his career as a soldier was cut short. Not just that, he wouldn't be able to even join independent incursions since his trait was close to useless against cryptids.

"Let me get this straight. You're complaining that he wasn't with you, so you want me to kick him out of the army?"

"If you put it that way it make us sound whiny, but that doesn't take from the fact that he's a weak, incompetent man that doesn't deserve a spot in the army."

"Weak?" Cassandra echoed in a questioning tone of voice. She knew Uriel was many things, but she knew for sure he wasn't a weakling. Not anymore at least.

"Yes, he made us do all the work, then bailed on us when it was time to fight only to come back when it was already too late, fire a few shots and then complain he was tired." Mayhem explained and Cassandra was finally able to understand what had happened.

The soldiers in front of her had belonged to the army for many years and even though they didn't fit in the military life, they were accustomed to it. It was the first time they faced someone who lacked army discipline or team spirit and they were sour because he left them alone, probably to get rid of another threat without them noticing.

Even if one of them had died, they wouldn't complain as long as their team leader remained by their side, but they felt Uriel was unreliable.

Cassandra massaged her temple knowing full well that the only way to shake them off from her was to kick Uriel out of the army, but letting go of such a strong and resourceful hunter for petty reasons was against the army's best interests, not to mention that now he was a volunteer she finally had a shot with him.The problem was that those hunters were also very valuable, even if they weren't disciplined the army kept them around because of how uncommon their traits were and there was no telling on how strong they would become if they managed to rank up.

Then, an idea crossed her mind and a smirk formed on her face.

"If that's how you think, no amount of words will make any difference. I think it's best if you guys see it with your own eyes. It's settled, you three are coming along the rescue mission."
