When the last cryptid was defeated the first ones to die had already vanished and dropped their flux orbs in the murky waters, making them near impossible to be found and Uriel realized he didn’t have enough time to extract all the orbs from the bodies before they vanished which is why he decided to entrust that task to his faithful companion, the jaguar spirit.

He dropped the clay figurine on the shallow waters and the jaguar bursted out with its usual display of power and magnificence, only to behave like a starving cat when Uriel said it was ok for him to devour the fallen cryptids.

At that point, Uriel didn’t care if the ebast ate the orbs since they would have gone to waste anyway, besides, he wanted to keep an eye on his surroundings in case the girl showed up again.

Even though she didn’t give him the impression of being strong, that was precisely the problem. The fact that she was able to sneak on him without him noticing even when using his mystical sense was beyond worrying since something like that had never happened before.

Not even Nika, a heavenly rank hunter specialized in stealth, had ever been able to sneak on him even though she attempted to do it several times a day. She always tried to peek at him when he took a shower or tried to get on his bed while he was sleeping, but each and every time Uriel would notice in time without fail.

"What’s the meaning of this? Could she be a cryptid or a hybrid?" He pondered, but the answer came to him as soon as he went back inside the library and saw the papers he left lying on top of a table. "The wild girl of Catahoula...

this isn’t Catahoula, but that doesn’t mean I can rule out the possibility that it could be a different specimen of the same species." He muttered before reading the newspaper articles out loud.

"The wild girl of Catahoula: A year ago a Catahoula parish paper published an article about a white girl on her teens running wild in the swamps and forests of that area. Those who saw her claimed she was naked and beautiful, but she had a limp and possibly a club foot or other deformity.

She was believed to have been abandoned by a tramp gypsy woman who couldn’t afford to feed her anymore." Uriel let out a sigh after reading that short article and then voiced out loud as he rummaged through the old newspapers. "Now I just need to find a newspaper from that parish one year before this one was published. Ah! Here it is!"

"The lost girl is causing a great deal of excitement in the swilly neighborhood about 15 miles west of here. Several parties have been formed with the intent to rescue her and a few of them claimed to have seen her at least two or three times that week, but they were unable to keep up with her inhuman speed.

All she left behind were the foot tracks that confirmed at least one of her feet is deformed.

"A resident of the Swilley neighborhood, Mrs. Swilley claims she, her two sons and her daughter in law spotted the wild girl stealing goose. When confronted, the girl pulled a knife and caused several injuries to both sons, leaving both women unharmed. After this incident, many of those who doubted the existence of such creature now believe and are warning people to stay out of her way.

It has been reported that she susbsists mostly on fish, but she can be appeased by offering her food. The entire subject is full of interest and if she can be rescued from her state of a beast and put back into civilization where she belongs, it would be a most desireable benefaction."

Uriel finished reading all the articles that contained mentions of that girl and saw several coincidences in between them. Even the sons of the mayor of another neighbor claimed they saw her and it caused a commotion wherever she went, though she was never accused of harming anyone other that Mrs. Swilley sons.

"Maybe they tried to take advantage of her and that’s why she only attacked them." Uriel deduced. It was the ony thing that could explain why only them resulted injured and also why the girl didn’t attack women.

Although the papres were centuries old, they all contained useful information. He now had a way to confirm whether or not the girl stalking him was the alleged wild girl of Catahoula. All he needed was to find any tracks she might have left in the mud and see if there was a deformity in one of them.

He also learned that he could maybe bait her with food, but he was unsure whether to do it or not since, so far, that creature had done nothing to harm him.

If it was a cryptid, killing it for a flux orb was fair game, but there was also the possibility that she was a hybrid which also meant she was at least part human, just like Luna.

Whatever the case, Uriel was certain that he wouldn’t be able to bat an eye at night knowing that there’s someone out there with the ability to creep on him without him noticinga which is why he decided to investigate the matter.

After going down, Uriel tried to find any tracks, but his previous fight against the cryptids caused a mess in the mud which prevented him from spotting any foot tracks.

"Guess there’s no choice then." He said as he bought some marshmallows from his souvenir shop. They were described as the perfect snack for campers and they even had instructions on how to prepare them in a campfire.

Following the instructions, Uriel skewered them with some sticks and as soon as the sun set he made a fire in the middle of the street, right in between the library and the building where the girl disappeared to.

"Oh, this is so delicious..." He said pretending to eat the marshmallows. He was a bit hungry, but that small package just costed him one trite, which was the equivalent to 1k credits. In other words, it was the equivalent of hundreds of synthetic meals or dozens cups of coffee.

After a short while, though, the marshmallows expanded releasing a sweet scent that made his mouth water and he couldn’t help but take a bite out of them. "Sweet pyramids! This is amazing!"
