Chapter 935: Apocalypse Part 1

Silence ensued inside the old church as the gods reunited among themselves, Ares lamenting for a brief moment her lover’s being exorcised but remained calm as he knew she wouldn’t have any issued finding another suitable vessel. The gods conversed about the progression of the grand reveal of their presence to humans, mentioning without showing any emotion the multiples casualties all over the city.

While that happened, Luna remained seated next to Lamar listening to anything the gods said while pondering the implications that followed at the same time Medusa struggled to breathe in a corner of the building after being defeated by Athena with a single thrust of her makeshift earth spear.

But Uriel, Uriel remained standing on the same spot he was when Ares dismissively walked past him. His teeth gritting and his one good fist clenching to the point of drawing blood. He did not know what was inside the box, but if the years studying mythology had taught him anything was that the god of brutal war earned his reputation. More so, his recent experiences with the gods had taught Uriel that however he pictured them before was nothing compared to the real deal.

"What is in that box?" Uriel muttered.

"And he dared to refuse my offer! I must say, he put up quite a fight, but I’ll leave the details to Apollo or Hermes, they like telling stories I only like the battle." The god of war was able to listen to Uriel, but decidedly ignored him.

"What the hell is in that box, you asshole!" Uriel shouted causing Ares to fall silent. He didn’t care to turn to see Ares in the face and could only hear his solid footsteps as the god of war placed himself behind him.

"It’s just a new piece to my collection. It was an honorable battle, but the guy could not fight for shit. I’ll still place him where he belongs, probably in a drawer somewhere." Ares laughed.

Uriel turned ever so slowly and craned up his neck to see Tate’s face making a disgusting and prideful expression impossible to picture on the humble soldier’s face. The difference in height and musculature made Uriel look like a teen in front of an adult and while the god of war had an imposing aura, Uriel did not budge an inch. Not even when Ares released his full presence in front of Uriel did he manage to make him react.

"Show me." Uriel said calmly, already making peace with the fact that he would see his father’s head in the box. He didn’t expect the god of war to comply without resisting, but Uriel was more than ready to persuade him by force. But the god of war not only complied, he happily did so as he unveiled the poorly mistreated head of who used to be none other than Captain Silvermane.

Uriel’s eyes widened and his body reacted by shivering so strongly it neared a seizure which Ares mistook as fear, unaware it was only the most pure rage a human being was able to endure. Uriel was seething, his body releasing hormones that would prepare him for battle and he became hypervigilant, which were obvious signs of the fight or flight instinct.

Ares nailed his eyes on Uriel expecting the ’little fellow’ to do something about it, but couldn’t help but let out a bellowing laughter when instead of fighting Uriel decided to stab himself in the heart and falling to the ground covered in blood as a consequence.

"Humans are so funny!" Ares laughed some more, trying to shake off the painful realization that he had been subconsciously holding his breath in anticipation.

"That they are," Lamar adjusted his glasses, before addressing Luna. "we have work to do. Don’t leave this place and you will be safe."

"For now..." Athena said before crossing the door along with the other gods.

Luna pondered for a couple seconds about who should she help first. Medusa was badly wounded as Athena gave her quite the beating, but she was still breathing. Uriel on the other hand, had no pulse or any vital signs.

"Leave me, help him first." Medusa said in a raspy voice, though Luna paid no heed to her and kept patching her up. There were so many deep wounds on Medusa’s abdomen that bandages would do nothing to prevent her from bleeding out, which is why she used medical gel and glue. It wasn’t the best treatment she could provide, but it was quick and time was of the essence if she also wanted to save Uriel.

Luna slowly knelt in front of Uriel and apologized before removing his shirt, displaying in front of everyone present the flux orb embedded in his chest. It was a necessary step to provide him the medical care he needed, though she had to admit to herself that she was curious about it.

"You should come with me now, your days of suffering are over." Charon said to Uriel’s spectral figure while the young archaeologist enjoyed the sight of his own body in a third person perspective.

"This is surreal." Uriel replied.

"The barrier is down, it means you can come with me now." Charon extended his hand with an amicable smile and while Uriel was tempted to grab it for an instant, it turned out that not even death was enough to appease his anger.

"I’ll take a raincheck on that." Uriel gifted Charon a genuine smile before getting pulled back towards his body the moment Luna took off the dagger.

"You idiot! Why the hell did you try to kill yourself?" Medusa coughed.

"I didn’t... I wanted to activate the dagger and use Water warlock to defeat those idiots." Uriel replied with a shrug.

"Then you are stupid, because you know it’s a bad thing. That guy changed Sam for the worst and we lost him..."

"I’m right here!" Sam shouted through the laptop speaker, but was completely ignored by Luna who continued.

"You stated before the dagger says to offer your heart, but you don’t have one now. How did you intend to activate it?"

"I... didn’t think of that." Uriel shrugged dismissively once more.

"I’m so pissed," Medusa huffed her eyes glimmering in a dangerous crimson. "I tried copying your fighting style to kill Athena and it worked, but I need more power."

"No kidding! Tate almost destroyed me!" Nika said as she limped her way towards Uriel. "Dana sure knows how to party, but she’s gone. Jon set off to get her back from her dungeon, but he passed on a message."

"What message?" Uriel lifted an inquisitive brow.

"To stay alive until he comes back... as a god." Nika mimicked Jon’s bearing causing most to laugh, but Uriel to cringe at the cheesyness. When the laughter died down, each hunter was left to face their inner doubts, fears and to question their life choices. To say they were demoralized would be an understatement.

"They won, they got everything they wanted and we couldn’t do anything. They even managed to convince Tate to agree to being possessed. This is like a nightmare on steroids." Medusa said, bringing the mood to bottom deep.

"Yeah, we pretty much hit rock bottom. But, hey! That means we can only go up from here!" Nika butted in with a smile as she held on to the memories she made along the way with a young archaeologist wannabe, a werewolf exiled from her pack and a self disowned heir to the most powerful corporation in the world, not to mention herself being a disgraced bodyguard that failed her asset and had to hide for months after. All of them hit rock bottom before climbing up the ladder.

"Captain Silvermane wasn’t a nice person. He always screamed at me and the other students and he said the meanest things, and there was a time where I wouldn’t have cared about him living or dying. But now I understand that being nice and being a good person are not the same thing," Uriel cleared his throat before continuing. "for instance, the guys that worked for Mark. The ones I killed in cold blood. I know I’ll be judged for that, they were just workers and were probably very nice people. But the work they were doing, they were impoverishing the poor to make the wealthy even wealthier. They were literally taking the food from the mouth of innocent people just to climb up the corporal ladder. People willing to do that are not good people."

"So, now you’re saying you know what’s right or wrong? The most dangerous people in history have thought just like you." Tina Celes walked inside the church like she owned the place, not only because she did, but her confidence came from the fact that she was possessed by the god of beauty. And it showed.

"I will prove you just how correct you are about that." Uriel grinned.
