Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 941: Ancient, not old part 3
Chapter 941: Ancient, not old part 3
From the moment they stepped inside the temple, Medusa wouldn’t help but ’oh’ and ’ah’ at the marvelous structure that seemed completely insignificant to everybody else. Even Uriel had a hard time justifying its cultural significance when the only thing he could come up with was that it must have fulfilled a religious purpose which was the equivalent of saying he didn’t know anything about it.
Still, he spent the time examining the building in hopes of fining any carvings or any symbol that could enlighten them about the structure’s purpose. Though from the looks of it, it seemed as though Medusa had it all covered
She quickly dismantled the traps and even managed to activate some of the mechanisms. It seemed as though she got lucky after poking at everything she found, though she insiste con calling it ’educated guesses’.
"This is trash, also trash, this might be useful...," Medusa hummed as she dismantled the ancient building showing no respect for its cultural value whatsoever. "This is interesting, it seems this was a waste disposal unit."
"A toilet!?" Uriel shouted.
"More like an entire sewer system all in one." Medusa shrugged.
The next buildings were bound to be more interesting as Uriel could think of very few things that meant as little as the one they just studied. However, Luna showed great interest in the structure as it could prove to be the answer to one of the mysteries she had long tried to unveil.
"So, whatever inhabitants of this place were, they certainly pooped." She nodded knowingly as they made their way to the next building across the jungle.
This time, in spites of Sami’s best efforts they did encounter some cryptids. Nothing they wouldn’t handle, but it was still bothersome to them as they had no interest in collecting any of the low level flux orbs they dropped.
"This one is, the warrior columns. It’s been theorized that these were made to commemorate the fallen warriors of the Mayan civilization, though knowing what we now know it wouldn’t be crazy to assume they’re actually living statues and you know what that means." Uriel declared somberly and everyone nodded, everyone but Sam hat is.
"What?" He said briefly scanning his surroundings to confirm if he truly was the only one being left out, which he of course was.
"They look fierce..." Nika said as she passed by the sculptures with admiration. She hasn’t much into art, but she could appreciate the masculine form.
Medusa’s take, on the other hand, was less subjective and way more professional as she devoted all of her focus into trying to understand what the building did, how to activate it and if it could be replicated. She looked around and with Uriel’s help they were able to find a loose slab, beneath which something that resembled a keyboard with varied animal symbols rested.
"This isn’t a language so much as a code." Uriel declared.
"And what difference does it make? Either way it’s probably a password we don’t know." Sam asked, eyeing the sculptures with growing suspicion.
"If it was a language, there would be limited possibilities to match the characters with words and it would make things easier. But it being a code I don’t know where to even begin." Uriel smiled wryly.
"Maybe I do...," Said Nika after taking a brief look at the ancient keyboard, then pressing the figurines in a spiral pattern without caring about the characters and they were surrounded by the grinding sound caused not by unseen gears underground, but by the sculptures as they stood in attention. "boom!"
Uriel was tempted to scold her as imputing the wrong code could have led to the warriors attacking them, but they were lucky as the code proved to be correct the moment the warrior sculptures set off to hunt cryptids left and right.
"They can see, but they don’t have eyes. They can move and apparently, they can fight too... but how." Uriel asked.
"From what I’ve gathered so far, it seems this entire site works upon set conditions. I still can’t understand their technology, but the way it works is just programing and that is something I can replicate." She smiled in excitement.
"I don’t think a few stone warriors would be much help for anything." Sam scoffed when he saw one of the warriors being taken down by a group of monster rank cryptids. The stone warriors were powerful and moved efficiently, but they were only made of stone.
"Sam, you can see everything, but you’re always missing the wider picture," Medusa waved her finger left to right and so on. "stone is the cheapest material there is, but think if we could create automatons from any material. They could be programmed for exploration in harsh conditions not even hunters could survive, perform menial tasks for us and assist us in any way we want."
"Stone, wood, metal, any given material would have its pros and cons." Uriel nodded as he already saw a future in which he could sell automatons for just about everything.
"Say, Uriel..." Sam beckoned at Uriel before speaking in a hushed voice so no one would listen.
"It would be tricky and they would need to be programmed for self cleaning, but I think it should be possible if they’re made of silicon." Luna answered Sam’s question even though she didn’t hear it.
"Well, at lest now we won’t get overwhelmed by weaklings." Nika shifted the awkward topic when she noticed how the warriors had cleared an exit path which allowed them to move on to the next structure.
They visited the red house, the marketplace and all of the buildings nearby, though they skipped kukulkan’s castle and the ossuary as they already knew it was the castle the one that generated the barrier and that the ossuary was meant for defending the other structures. This meant that even if Medusa had the means to dismantle them to see their inner workings, they couldn’t risk the buildings stop functioning.
"I have to say, this has been one of the best days of my life. At first I thought dungeons were magical, but now we know it’s technology that we can replicate... I can’t wait to return and put this to good use." Said Medusa with a wide grin as she floated in the Mayan steam bath that wasn’t in ruins anymore. After being repaired it went from just a stone structure to a marvelous golden building that kept the water at the precise temperature which also produced steam that kept visibility near to zero even to Sam as his gleaming eyes couldn’t pierce through the water mist. Not that it stopped him from trying.
"You really are shameless." Uriel shook his head.
"I’ve been stuck inside a laptop for who knows how long and before that I was surrounded by pretty women." Sam almost cried.
"That doesn’t sound as bad as you think it does."
"You don’t understand, every single one of them wanted to marry me."
"Should I repeat myself?" Uriel chuckled.
"They wanted to marry me so they could get their hands in my assets!"
"You’re definitely not making any sense. Isn’t that precisely what you wanted?" Nika, who had been next to them the entire time and yet remained unseen, said out loud.
"Hold on...," Uriel took a pause before continuing. "you’re already married! Hey, guys, listen to this!"
Uriel explained in detail Sam’s torment who had to suffer the unrelenting attempts to seduce him by his employees, though they only cared about the one thing he would not be able to provide which was a marriage and after laughing at his misery for what seemed like an eternity to Sam he shared some more details.
"It’s not that I didn’t want to divorce my wife, is that she is nowhere to be seen! I’ve looked for her everywhere, but she might as well be dead by now." Sam let out a sigh. novelbuddy-cσ๓
"That is... uhm... not likely." Said Luna from the corner opposite to Sam’s as she didn’t feel safe in a mixed bath, especially not with Sam being one of the men.
"She wasn’t that strong, really." Sam insisted.
"That might be the case, but from the little time we spent with the air spirits I could tell they were intelligent. Plus, they can fly which means they would only be a target for flying cryptids which are mostly swarmers."
"What about lightseekers."
"Like I said, they were smart." Luna replied.
"I’ve been curious for a while now, but what kind of creature were the air spirits?" Uriel asked Luna, knowing he would likely regret it if Luna went in a full rant about cryptids.
"The answer is easy. They were trapped inside a dungeon, but they were not cryptids. They also had intellect and abilities, to what extent we could never confirm, but one thing I’m sure is they’re precursor to humans."
"So that would put Swallow chief and Sam’s wife at the same level of the gods we just met." Medusa nodded, which the others could only notice as her ever glimmering eyes bobbed up and down through the steam caused by the ancient structure.
"It’s been enough rest, It’s time to head inside the dungeon now." Uriel declared, putting an end to their last stop before entering the dungeon.
