Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 974: Unwelcomed guest
Chapter 974: Unwelcomed guest
In the grand hall of the Olimpieion where most of the gods had gathered to keep up with the news of the world ending event, a small figure that couldn’t possibly compare to the mighty gods ran rampant oozing flux energy with every move.
"Get it out!" A god shouted and another cried.
"It’s on me! Ah! Take it off of me!"
The atmosphere was chaotic to say the least which played on Uriel’s favor, but that was the only silver lining as his retribution skill did not work as effectively as he wished. It was a powerful skill that allowed him to reflect the damage he received even to the godly beings that inhabited the dungeon, but it wasn’t enough to kill them as they too were able to regenerate. Inflicting them pain worked much better, but now that Water warlock’s blessing coursed through his body Uriel felt little to no pain.
"Is that all you got? You’re not ancient, you’re just decrepit!" Uriel laughed maniacally as he stood on what he guessed where the shoulders of a god with an appearance so bizarre it may as well been its head.
"You lowly scum!" Shamash waved his hand towards Uriel with murderous intent, yet his aura strike only hurt the god of fungi.
"What was that for?" The bizarre creature awoke from its long slumber.
"You had a thing on your head." A faceless god explained.
Uriel moved around with the same ease a cockroach would taunting them with his words and desecrating the concepts they ruled over to enrage them even further. This caused the gods to attack each other, but that was only a welcomed consequence and not Uriel’s actual purpose.
After realizing that the best thing he could achieve there was to reach a stalemate as neither part would be able to kill the other, Uriel went for the next best thing which was to cause enough of a fuss to get everyone’s attention. It was better thought than done, though, as even with the noisy atmosphere some of the gods remained asleep.
This wasn’t necessarily a surprise to Uriel as humanity had long forgotten about the gods of old times. In fact, after learning that gods truly existed anyone would have noticed they were either asleep or absent with but a glimpse of the state of things in the world. It was gods who kept the balance of the world by managing the environment with their powers, but humanity had reached the point of collapse many times in the past and the only reason they survived as a species was because of technology instead of religious belief.
As these thoughts crossed Uriel’s mind, Astraeus the god of celestial bodies stepped in to stop the confusion. Her name and title made her sound way more powerful than she actually was because while she ruled over the concept of celestial bodies, that was only through the lens of humanity. Rather than causing stars to be born and planets to die, her power was more related to navigation and cosmology. Albeit limited, her power was nothing to scoff at, particularly because she could manipulate space.
"It’s my turn, get him to stay put and I’ll get him out of here." Astraeus declared as if she had the celestial equivalent to a broom.
"Can you send him anywhere?" A wicked smile appeared on Tyche’s face as an idea crossed her almost almighty mind.
"Are you looking down on me?" Astraeus challenged, but Tyche swiftly corrected herself.
"I apologize if I came across that way, but if you can... then maybe there’s no need for us to restrain him," Tyche said to Astraeus, then turned to Uriel with her business smile. "we can send you to Zeus’ location if that’s what you want." To anticipate someone wants and needs was as easy as breathing for Tyche and everything aligned perfectly for a deal that would leave everyone satisfied.
"That would work, but how can I trust you won’t send me anywhere else?" Uriel stopped in his tracks and directed a suspicious glare towards Astraeus who almost teleported him at random just to stop the chaos. What convinced her otherwise was the fact that contrary to Uriel’s previous manic behavior he was now completely calm and rational.
"If you can’t trust a goddess, then what can you trust?" Astraeus asked. freeweɓnovel~cѳm
"Just as I thought, you’re sketchy." Uriel sighed and Tyche intervened right before Uriel resumed his frenzy.
"Sending you anywhere would be pointless because you would likely survive anyway, but if you’re sent to a location of your choosing then we won’t have to tolerate your presence anymore. You can always trust a deal where everybody wins."
"We still need to hear the truth..." Shamash butted in, but Tyche cut him short.
"And you know Veritas is now with Zeus, so she can inform him if he’s lying or not." Tyche said with the same business smile she gave Uriel which made it obvious she was hiding something, yet it was impossible for Shamash to tell what.
For one, she knew that Veritas was on her side and would prevent Uriel from outing their plans to take over the Olimpieion. But there was more as she knew for a fact that Zeus won’t even hear what Uriel had to say in the first place.
Zeus was the one that ruled over the gods, but it wasn’t thanks to his wisdom or even ability to rule. Just like many antropomorphic gods he was born as a human, a man who lived in the times where ’might makes right’ was the only law. He was prideful, petty, strong willed and above all, he was incredibly powerful.
Just as Uriel was transported by Astraeus ability an almost unified sigh was heard and then silence. Uriel’s presence had stirred the place so much in such a short time frame, yet for all that time the gods forgot what peace was like.
"Why did you give him what he wanted? For us to back down in front of a mere human is unthinkable." Shamash groaned and Tyche replied with a smile as wide as a crescent moon.
"Because I know for a fact that Zeus can kill him," The goddess of fortune Tyche snapped her fingers and a Saint Germain appeared in front of her. "are you sure he still has the crystal dagger?"
"Yes, madame." Saint Germain replied without so much as lifting his face. The only reason why he survived through the trials of Chichén Itzá was because of the deal he struck with Tyche back then. Ironically, that was also the reason he was not allowed to continue his exploration of the site because once he was blessed by the goddess he stopped being a candidate for Water warlock’s possession.
With that, the last piece of Tyche’s plan had fallen into place. It didn’t matter if Zeus killed Uriel or if it was the other way around, she would still benefit from that fight. Gods were powerful, but even Tyche couldn’t help but let out a chuckle when she realized she had won.
But had she?
Uriel felt from the heights above the megacity of New Texas, his momentum increasing with every passing second until he reached terminal velocity. As an act of nothing but divine pettiness, Astraeus sent him to the place Uriel wanted but from a height no human but he could survive. To say Uriel was not amused would have been an understatement, but as he grasped his fedora hat with a hand he couldn’t help but smile.
"It’s pretty chilly..." He said as the breached through the cold air and the sight of the city grew larger. The fall took so long he had the time to browse through his museum’s souvenir shop, buy a parachute and enjoy a snack safely on a slow descent, but that wasn’t his intention.
Instead of slowing down, he angled his body down and stretched a hand to gain speed activating Dash at the precise moment he was able to see the scene of the fight. Brutal projectiles were being fired from ships back and forth, though thanks to his altered perception of time he could follow their trajectories with ease. This allowed him to swiftly tell friend from foe and make a plan on the run, or rather on the fall.
After making a mental note of thanking Hathaway for helping and scolding Nika for not telling him that Mike showed up, Uriel proceeded to aim directly towards the strongest flux signal he could sense which was Zeus inhabiting Walter’s body who at the time was forming a plasma projectile charged with electricity in his divine hand.
"Not so fast." Uriel snickered at the same time a fist with the force of a meteorite crossed the god’s face and through the zeppelin. The sheer power of the fist shattered Uriel’s bones up to the shoulder, but he managed to drag along the powerful god of lightning to the ground.
