Echoes of the Lost Elf-Chapter 29 - 28 : Under Attack (3)
Chapter 29: Chapter 28 : Under Attack (3)
As they walked back through the forest, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and lingering mana, Zephyr suddenly spoke up.
"Hey, guys... do you think we'll rank first place after this?"
Silence.
Then, as if synchronized, every head turned toward him.
Adriana blinked. "...What?"
Kael rubbed his temple. "This absolute fool..."
"A dumbass of the highest order," Adriana muttered.
"A duffer," Kael agreed.
Zephyr held up his hands defensively. "Look, I was just saying!"
Before another insult could be thrown his way, the temperature around them plummeted. A biting chill seeped into the air, the once-damp earth beneath their feet now laced with frost.
Historias halted, his golden eyes narrowing slightly. "It seems we have company."
The trees shuddered, and from the shifting shadows, three cloaked figures emerged. Their presence was heavy, their movements disciplined.
The one in the center—a tall figure with a commanding stance—stepped forward. Unlike the other two, who radiated a dangerous yet subdued presence, this one exuded overwhelming pressure.
Gravity magic.
Historias immediately recognized it as the subtle pull of mana weighed down on them. A Tier 5 mage at the very least.
The other two weren't nearly as strong—both early Tier 3, one radiating frost magic, the other an aura-infused warrior.
"Scatter," Historias ordered calmly.
The moment the word left his lips, the leader lunged forward, the air twisting with an oppressive gravitational field.
Historias vs. the Gravity Mage
The ground beneath Historias fractured instantly, the sheer weight crushing everything in its radius. The oppressive force slammed down, seeking to immobilize him.
Instead of resisting, Historias shifted his stance slightly.
A thin golden rune flickered beneath his feet.
Then, with a mere flicker of movement—he disappeared.
The gravity mage's eyes widened. Impossible.
A second later, Historias was above them, descending gracefully like a specter.
The enemy reacted swiftly, increasing the gravity in a sudden burst. The space around Historias distorted, trying to pull him in, crush him within an instant.
But Historias did not fall.
Instead, golden inscriptions flared around his arms, tracing delicate arcs through the air. The invisible force shattered around him as if it had never existed.
Then—a single step forward.
A rune formed at his palm, light coalescing into an intricate magical circle.
Before the gravity mage could counter—
Boom.
A golden shockwave blasted outward, striking the enemy head-on. The sheer impact sent them flying backward, crashing through trees and tearing through the earth.
For a brief moment, the gravity mage remained still, buried in a crater of his own making.
Then, coughing lightly, they stood. Their robes were tattered, but their gaze was sharp.
They exhaled, a mixture of shock and intrigue in their expression.
"A High Elf," the gravity mage muttered.
Historias froze for a fraction of a second.
He had forgotten.
When he cast his spell, the runes had remained visible, hovering in the air for a fleeting moment before fading.
It was barely a glimpse. But a glimpse was all it took.
The enemy's lips curled into a smirk. "Well, this just got interesting."
Then, laughing lightly, they lunged forward once more.
.........
Meanwhile, the ice mage wasted no time.
With a sharp motion, their mana flared—ice exploded outward, thick spikes launching toward Zephyr and Kael.
Zephyr sidestepped, the ice shattering against the ground. Kael, in contrast, responded with a flick of his wrist—a surge of water coiling around him before crystallizing into a dense shield.
The enemy's eyes narrowed. "You use ice as well?"
Kael smirked. "Something like that."
A sudden clash—Kael sent a frozen lance forward, but the enemy shattered it instantly, countering with a barrage of frost daggers.
Zephyr took this opportunity to disappear—his speed blurring him from sight.
The enemy turned—too late.
A blade sliced through the air, aiming for their side. They barely twisted in time, conjuring an ice wall in desperation. Zephyr's attack broke through, but the force was dampened enough for the ice mage to backflip away.
"Persistent," Zephyr muttered.
Kael exhaled sharply, a mist curling from his lips. His hands moved in intricate motions, forming a new spell.
Then, suddenly, the temperature dropped further.
A wave of dense fog spread out, creeping along the battlefield.
The enemy faltered for half a second.
That was all they needed.
Zephyr reappeared—sword already swinging.

Kael's mist shifted, solidifying into razor-sharp spikes of ice that launched forward all at once.
The enemy barely managed to conjure a shield—too slow.
The ice tore through their defenses, and Zephyr's sword slammed into their side, sending them crashing into the frozen earth.
Their form twitched. Then—they stopped moving.
"Well," Zephyr exhaled. "That was satisfying."
.......
Adriana and the aura user clashed violently, their battle entirely physical.
Each strike sent shockwaves through the air.
The warrior moved with brutal efficiency, fists reinforced with aura. Adriana countered every attack with precise parries, her sword dancing like a silver blur.
Then, with a sudden shift, the enemy feigned a punch—
And kicked off the ground instead, launching toward her with terrifying speed.
Adriana's blade flashed.
Their attack was stopped mid-air.
With a sharp step, she twisted, her sword slamming into their side with incredible force.
The enemy gritted their teeth and endured it, barely managing to twist their body and land a counterpunch.
Adriana staggered back—only for a second.
She wiped a small trickle of blood from her lips. "Not bad."
Then, gripping her sword tighter—she vanished.
In an instant, she was behind them.
The enemy's eyes barely widened before her blade struck.
A clean, precise blow.
The force sent them crashing into the dirt, unable to rise.
Adriana flicked her sword, exhaling softly. "Too slow."
......
The gravity mage stood still, surveying their fallen allies. A faint chuckle escaped their lips, the remnants of amusement laced with something darker.
"A High Elf," they muttered, staring directly at Historias. "No wonder. What an unexpected find."
Historias said nothing. His expression was unreadable, but beneath that calm façade, something shifted.
The enemy straightened, cracking their neck as mana surged around them. "Well then, how about—"
They lunged forward, gravity distorting violently around them.
But before they could finish their sentence—
Slash.
A golden arc of mana sliced through the air, clean, precise, merciless.
The enemy froze mid-step. Their breath caught in their throat as a thin line of golden light traced across their torso.
A moment later—their body split apart.
No scream. No final words. Just the faint crackling of magic dissipating into nothing.
Silence settled over the battlefield.
Historias lowered his hand, the remnants of golden runes flickering briefly before vanishing into the darkness.
For a split second, the others had seen something—a glint, a faint shimmer of foreign magic.
But the fight had ended too quickly, the movement too fast to fully comprehend.
Zephyr blinked. "...Did you guys see that?"
Kael frowned, rubbing his eyes. "See what?"
Adriana glanced at Historias, narrowing her eyes slightly. But she said nothing.
"Maybe I imagined it," Zephyr muttered.
Kael shrugged. "Who cares? It's over."
Adriana exhaled, flicking the blood off her blade. "We need to report this. Whatever their goal was, they were too organized for just a random attack."
Historias remained quiet, his golden gaze lingering on the fading traces of magic where the enemy had once stood.
Then, softly—he exhaled.
No loose ends.
No complications.
The night was far from over.
