Eldritch Assassin: Reincarnated With An SSS-Rank Devouring System-Chapter 29: Blood, Mush, And Broken Bones
Chapter 29: Blood, Mush, And Broken Bones
Kael said nothing.
He stepped over the fallen guard and knelt beside Sera. His hand hovered over Mira's chest for a moment, then pressed lightly just above the wound.
"I was late," he sighed, closing her eyes gently with his palm.
Kael's gaze lifted, locking onto the Earth Mage who still stood a few feet away.
"Keep her company... I'll be done in a jiffy," Kael said, facing Sera. Although she didn't know what he meant by that, Sera nodded and then pulled Mira's corpse into her embrace.
Kael stood still for a heartbeat, his hand lowering slowly from Mira's chest. He didn't move like someone about to fight.
No aggressive posture. No intense aura. Just a chilling silence. But anyone watching closely would feel it—the air itself was starting to tighten around him.
His gaze swept the clearing, making a headcount. 'One... two... three... four guards including the Earth Mage. And then, four Knight Guards standing beside Dorian Valcroft.'
Dorian stood calmly behind them with his arms folded observing the newcomer, his golden armor catching the dying light.
Kael activated his perception. In that split second, glowing rings appeared beneath his eyes and his vision sharpened, his senses flaring. He didn't need to guess their strength anymore.
The weakest of the guards was a Lvl 10 Water Mage and a Wind Mage, while the Earth Mage and a Swordmaster were Lvl 12. Meanwhile, of the 4 Knight Guards beside Dorian, three of them were Lvl 14, while Evelyne, the head of the Knight Guards, was Lvl 15.
Surprisingly, the strongest one was who they were protecting, Dorian Valcroft. He was a Lvl 16 Half-Step Evolution warrior.
Seeing their powerful cultivation, Kael wasn't flustered despite being only a Lvl 7 Half-Step Evolution warrior. Instead, his battle intent only grew.
His eyes returned to their usual dark silver. He stepped forward, slowly and quietly, like he was walking through grass.
His body didn't scream power. It didn't even ripple with energy. But his presence... it shifted.
The guards noticed first. They dropped into formation with their weapons up and spells glowing between their fingers.
The Water Mage formed a glimmering shield in front of himself. The Wind Mage summoned daggers of compressed air. The Swordmaster shifted his stance, breathing deep.
"Don't let him get close!" the Earth Mage barked, leading the attack from behind.
Kael didn't pause his steps. A faint wind rolled through the clearing. Dry leaves scattering around his feet.
Then, without a word—he vanished.
Fwish!
The Wind Mage's eyes widened. "Where did he—?"
A flash caught his eyes, but he was too slow to respond. Kael appeared behind him in mid-air, his leg sweeping low with gathered momentum. His foot slammed into the side of the mage's knee.
CRACK!
The Wind Mage dropped with a cry, his leg bent the wrong way.

Kael didn't stop.
He pivoted and launched a punch straight into the Water Mage's stomach. The barrier tried to block it—but it shattered like glass on impact. The Water Mage's feet lifted off the ground as he flew backward, coughing blood.
The Swordmaster charged forward with his blade flashing in a downward arc. Fast and clean.
Kael ducked low. The blade sliced air just above his shoulder, narrowly missing his ear. He slid forward and drove his elbow twice into the man's ribs.
THUD! THUD!
The Swordmaster stumbled back, his breath knocked out of him.
Kael grabbed the man's wrist and twisted it, yanking the sword from his grip and flipping him headfirst into the dirt. He gathered momentum with his leg raised before stomping hard on the Swordsman's head.
SPLAT!
The head burst out like an overripe melon dropped from a great height. The scene happened so fast that a few failed to register what happened.
The Earth Mage used the shocking scene to his advantage. Seeing Kael occupied, he slammed his palms on the ground. "Terra—"
But before he could complete his spell, Kael hurled the sword like a spear.
It spun once in the air and then—
Squelch!
The blade pierced through unobstructedly, leaving the hilt sticking out from the Earth Mage's chest.
He gasped softly, blood pouring out of his chest and mouth before collapsing backward without a sound.
The Wind and Water Mage gathered themselves and trudged forward hesitatingly while glancing back at their Young Master, hoping he'd call them back from fighting against this monster.
But their hopes were shattered like glass as Dorian ignored them. He looked furious and unimpressed by their performance and instead, his gaze was fully focused on Kael.
Now, they had no choice but to continue their battle, hoping they'd be spared. But that was an unlikely outcome.
Kael stood over the fallen bodies with no expression on his face. His chest rose and fell steadily as if the fight so far hadn't even warmed him up.
The remaining Wind and Water Mages looked at each other, hesitation thick in their eyes. They had seen men stronger than them fall in seconds. And yet, they still moved forward, slowly but reluctantly. They had to, or death would be a much better option in the claws of Dorian.
The Wind Mage went first, darting to the side, hoping to create an angle. His hands spun fast—air condensed into razor-sharp discs. They sliced through the grass as he launched them.
Kael didn't flinch.
He sidestepped the first wind disc, deflected the second with a twist of his wrist, and vanished before the third could reach him.
"Where'd he go!?" the Water Mage shouted.
The answer came behind him.
A hand gripped the back of his neck.
Kael's grip tightened. The Water Mage gasped—then screamed as his face was slammed into the dirt with a brutal thud. Before he could recover, Kael drove his knee into the side of the man's head.
A crunchy sound followed and everywhere turned silent.
The Wind Mage panicked. He flung three more blades of air, backing away at the same time.
Kael didn't dodge this time. He walked through them.
One grazed his shoulder, slicing through his already tattered cloak, and skin. The others missed.
He moved like he didn't feel pain. His eyes locked onto the mage—calm, cold, and focused.
The mage's fear peaked, and he disregarded everything, turning to flee.
But he'd only got one step and then Kael was in front of him.
He reached forward, grabbed the man's wrist, and with a smooth twist, shattered the joint.
"AAAGHHHHHHHHH" The Wind Mage screamed.
Kael lifted him by the collar and slammed him into the ground so hard it cracked the rock beneath.
The clearing fell quiet. Only the breeze moved now, brushing gently across bloodstained grass.
