Emisarry Of Time And Space-Chapter 218 - 219: Way forward.
But for Orion, whom Falad was unaware of, Thaddeus was the best option.
But they had to be quick; apparently, they were under partial surveillance, and they couldn't afford to be caught.
This was part of why Orion had to get into the capital. The infiltration group had done their best, but their hands were partially tied. Though they'd managed to manoeuvre and find out a lot, it still wasn't enough.
The point was that the risk was there, and Orion hated uncertainties.
He aether stepped like a phantom in the night, doing his best to conceal himself and his movement. He'd managed to analyse and construct a means of breaking past Thaddeus' Spatial Veil, and although he's was a far cry from Thaddeus' innate ability, he still picked up one or two things about concealment, it was part of his future projects, he planned on working on.
He moved closer to the wall; from afar, he could see signs of patrol around the perimeter; they weren't there during the day, but they were now at night.
Part of Orion considered that maybe their means of surveillance was offline at night, but then again, maybe that thought process was their goal, and he refused to fall for it.
Protocol and temporal locus kickstarted immediately, the two skills working in synchronicity, his spatial sense mapped the terrain, and the dual skills gave him the optimum path to avoid discovery.
His legs moved rapidly, boots making no sound on the ground.
He soon felt a familiar presence approach from the other side of the wall, Thaddeus.
His spatial sense couldn't pick it up, only Temporal Locus, meaning Thaddeus was already in stealth mode.
He followed the dual skill procedure, weaving through the patrols before teleporting high in the air a meter away from the wall.
Thaddeus, on the other side, had also sensed Orion, still in stealth mode; he mirrored Orion's movement, joining him in the air over the wall.
Both of them met in the air, arms stretched out, grabbing each other.
Thaddeus activated Veil weave immediately, before they teleported to the inside of the wall.
They didn't linger; Thaddeus immediately led the way, taking Orion towards their current hideout.
Orion followed silently, his eyes taking in the domain of the Sylgrid. It was late at night, so the rowdiness and bustle were almost non-existent, but that didn't stop him from watching those who were present.
He could read the joy and relaxed atmosphere.
Orion knew for a fact that most of the Sylgrid were unaware of what was about to happen, so their apparent joy surprised him a little. Maybe they were just happy to be having an event and celebrating something.
Orion's mind then went to the Sylgrid, who knew, from the messages he'd gotten from the infiltration group, that the underworld was aware of the event and what it entailed, but the group had not been able to get exactly what it was.
But all that didn't matter now; he was here now, and he'd get all the info he needed; he had several means in mind already.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the hotel. Thaddeus opened the door to the room, and Orion entered, he soon saw his friends, each doing their thing; some were trying to rest, though it was evident they were far from relaxed; others were simply wide awake. He could see the strain of stress on all their faces.
His eyes fell on Seris, who stood beside, the weary-looking, closed eye Jalen, who was still drawing; she had a serious look on her face.
They hadn't noticed Orion yet, courtesy of Thaddeus, Orion signalled for Thaddeus to release it and immediately their eyes nsapped to him.
"Onion boy!" Of course, the first to call out to him was Arlen, which earned him a slap from Selene.
Orion smiled. He had a lot to say to them, but they had priorities.
"What's the situation?"
Seris smiled, her eyes falling on Orion, relief written over her face.
Despite how much they expected their plans to proceed without problems, there was still a minor chance of things falling apart, and that was fatal in their present situation.
Seris stepped closer to him and recounted everything that had happened since their arrival. They had already communicated almost everything via their bracelet, but now she could include every detail.
By the time she was done, Orion was seated with a thoughtful expression on his face.
"Any changes in the past two days?" Orion asked.
"Apart from the obvious increase in security and guards around the capital, not much," Erevan replied, with his back against the wall.
"Our major fear currently is whether the report of our existence has gone through to the Emperor," Selene noted.
"We've been heading to their hideout as frequently as we can, and so far, there's been no indication, but we can't be too sure," Erevan commented.
"And don't forget about our honourable Falad, for all we know he…." Arlen reminded.
"He's definitely up to something." Orion interrupted softly.
"If his reputation has already set such a precedent, we shouldn't expect better; that would be foolish," Orion said with a sigh.
"Besides, for someone who's been skirting around danger for a long time to fall into the hands of a traitor like Jak makes no sense." He finished.
"So he brought us here to be caught?" Thaddeus asked with a raised brow.
"It has to go further than that," Erevan said.
"Like what?" Arlen asked.
"That's a pointless direction of thought; we don't know anything about him, and we lack much information," Selene corrected.
Arlen just sighed dramatically.
CLAP!
Orion clapped his hands to draw their attention.
"We're spiralling, and we can't afford that. There's a lot at stake. We'll take it one at a time." Orion said, his gaze sweeping over them.
They all nodded.
"Good, now let's get to our way forward," Orion said, his gaze turning to the still drawing Jalen.
