Chapter 296: Plan

Three hundred and seventy-five million dollars is a little too much money for Adam to ignore.

He might be putting himself at risk if he is willing to go along with Renee’s plan, but the reward is just too damn appealing for him to ignore.

And isn’t this the kind of scenario he has always fantasized about, living through movies, imagining himself doing those ridiculous things those main characters did, but they are just movies, and real people can’t do what main characters from movies can do.

But in Adam’s case, it’s different. His very existence is magical, as is his physical body. He can do the extraordinary and sweep through all the troubles with his gifts.

Isn’t that why he has been pursuing all these hobbies — martial arts, gun combat, music, etc, to be an extraordinary human being?

Maybe he can start being extraordinary by winning these illegal races and winning big. After all, it seems to be the fastest way for him to become a high-end multi-millionaire.

Adam looks at Renee again, who has been patiently waiting for his answer. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Adam could take some more time, figure it all out, but deep down, he already has an answer, and it looks like Renee was right.

"Fine, I will do it, I will race for you," Adam says.

Renee, who has been holding onto her relaxed posture all this time, finally straightens up and stares back at Adam with sparkles in her eyes.

"Great!!!" She says, jumping to her feet, grabbing Adam’s hand with excitement, and shaking it vigorously.

"Calm down, I still have a lot of questions," Adam says, attempting to calm her down.

Hearing him, Renee sits down again, but this time, the glee on her face is very present. After all, Adam agreed to this.

Even though she was confident that Adam would agree to work with her, she still had some doubts. Like, what if he gets scared and rejects her immediately, and that’s why she tried to poke him before, to see if he succumbs to fear or not.

"Ask away, as I said. I have all the time in the world," Renee says.

Adam nods his head. "Okay, when do these races start?" Adam asks.

"Oh, they already started. Races are being held almost every weekend for almost a month now," Renee says.

Adam raised his brows; he didn’t expect the races to have already started.

"And you are coming to me now?" He asks.

"Well, we aren’t aware of when these races start. Only after several reports did we finally know it’s happening," Renee says.

"If the races have already started, aren’t I a little too late to participate in them?" Adam asks.

"No, things are still not that serious. These races being held are just preliminaries. Since everyone’s allowed to participate, it takes time for the organizers to choose the racers for the main races," Renee says.

"And how do they choose these racers?" Adam asks.

"A racer needs to end up in the top 3 in four random races that will be held across the city. If they manage to do that, they will be invited to race in the main races." Renee says

"I see... How much do I get paid for winning these preliminary races?" Adam asks.

"Nothing, the organizers don’t pay for that. It’s more of a competition amongst people, allowing them to earn a chance to participate in the main race. It’s the main races that pay big," Renee says.

"And how many main races?" Adam asks.

"Seven races, with every race, half of the participants get eliminated while the other half move on to the next round, until only four are left to race in the finals," Renee answers.

"How’s the price distributed?" Adam asks.

"The only one who gets the prize money is the winner. Win a race, win a certain amount from the money pool. There is nothing for second and third places. With each race, the prize money increases. If you win all seven races, you go home with 375 million dollars," Renee answers.

Adam takes a cold breath through his teeth as he hears this. To get that prize money, he will have to win all the races? That’s quite a challenge, but instead of feeling pressure, Adam feels a sense of excitement wash over him as he realizes that he does want the stakes to be high so that when he does eventually win all of it, he is going to feel amazing about it.

"When’s the next race?" Adam asks.

"Tomorrow midnight, 1 PM, Starlink Drive," Renee says.

"And what about the cars? Do they have a power limit?" Adam asks. After all, his car is fast, but not so fast that he is confident enough to win a race in it if the race track has long straights. Given that this is illegal racing in the city, he is bound to encounter long straights. Adam’s not sure if his car can keep up with some of the speed demons that people drive.

"Unfortunately, no. It’s illegal racing, everything’s allowed." Renee says.

"Look, as much as I trust my car, I don’t think it’s fast enough for me to win any races. I need something faster than what I have," Adam says.

"I wish I could help you with that. We do have some very fast vehicles seized, but I can’t give them to you. It can raise suspicion," Renee says as she also begins to ponder how to help Adam with his car.

She didn’t think about this at all; after all, she knows very little about cars. She thought the one Adam had would be enough.

As Adam thinks about his car problem, a certain individual comes to his mind.

"I think I can arrange one for myself, but I don’t know if I will succeed," Adam says.

Renee lifts her head and looks at him. "Try to get it, but inform me if you can’t before the race. I will pull some strings to get you one if your method doesn’t work," Renee says.

Adam nods his head. ’At least, she’s going to try,’ He thinks.

"One last question, how is this going to work?" Adam asks. "How does my winning the race help you catch the guy?" Adam asks.

"Simple, the four finalists after the race will be invited to the party held by the organizers at a secret location. Once we have the location, our task force will take it from there. You just need to be one of the four finalists and get us their secret location," Renee explains.

"That’s like eleven races, what are you going to do until then?" Adam asks.

"Nothing. You and I will only interact once during this whole period, and that’s on Saturday, when I will accompany you to see whether you can really win this. If you win, we continue with our plan. I will then cut off all ties with you. We will not interact at all. No talking, no meetings, no personal messages. The next time we talk will be the day of the party," Renee says. Clearly, not wanting to leave anything behind that would trace Adam back to them.

"And what if I lose?" Adam asks, curious as to what Renee’s backup plan might be.

"Then I find someone else to replace you," Renee says.

Adam sits in silence listening to her answer. He did expect this response from her, but he doesn’t like the idea of being replaced. After all, he is the best. It’s not his ego saying it, it’s his superior physical traits.

"Well, looks like we are at an agreement. I will inform you when I have the car," Adam says, getting up.

Renee follows him to her feet, and they shake hands while staring into each other’s eyes.

"I will take my leave then. It’s nice doing business with you~" Renee says with a smile.

"We will know soon enough, if it’s a profitable deal or a shitty one," Adam says.

Renee doesn’t say anything; she just smirks, pulls her hand away, and turns to leave.

Adam follows her to the door and helps her out.

"Have a safe drive," He says as he watches her get inside her cruiser and drive away.

Seeing her car disappear into a turn, Adam closes the door and makes his way back.

He looks at the empty living room with spaced-out eyes because he is thinking of something.

’I have a few options to get my hands on a supercar... There’s Margarette, I am sure she can help procure a fast one... But I don’t want to get her involved with this...

Then there’s him — Danny Coronant, the friend I made not so long ago, and he clearly has a car fast enough for me to win it all. The problem is, will he let me borrow it to race?’ Adam wonders.

But when he thinks about Danny and how he seems like a complete pushover, Adam decides to try his hand with him.

He takes out his phone and looks for Danny’s number. He is glad that Danny was pushy enough to exchange phone numbers with him.

He finds it.

Without hesitation, he gives Danny a call.

The phone rings only for a few seconds before the call is answered.

"Hello?" Adam hears a familiar voice coming through.

"Hello, Danny, it’s me, Adam," Adam answers.

"Oh! Adam! Shit, dude, I thought you would never call. So how is it, man? Any new girls you have been fucking with?" Danny asks.

Adam is taken aback by seeing how crude and forward Danny is with his approach. If this question was from a friend Adam had known all his life, then sure, it wouldn’t sound weird, but Adam’s known Danny for only a few weeks and only met with the guy once. He is already talking to Adam as if they have known each other for years.

"How about I tell you about it personally," Adam says, deciding to ignore and continue with the conversation, after all, he needs Danny right now.

"Great! I am free anyway, so how about you come over to my mansion? I will send you the location right away!" Danny says, a second later, Adam’s phone buzzes.

Adam checks it and sees it’s a message from Danny; he sent his current location to him.

"I will be there within an hour." Adam says.

"Can’t wait!" Danny says, sounding very excited.
