Empire Building With Infinite Warehouse-Chapter 103: Subject Failed
Julien felt his heart jump right into his throat the second that heavy chainsaw revved up in the laboratory.
His hands twitched at his sides, and his brain automatically connected to his infinite system inventory so he could pull out a weapon and shut this entire horror show down.
He was completely ready to throw his merchant cover away and start a fight right here in the middle of a heavily guarded military cult base.
"Stop it," Julien said, keeping his voice carefully controlled so he did not sound menacing but making sure the blonde woman heard his demand clearly over the loud engine noise.
She did not even look at him, her eyes glued to her digital writing pad, tapping her pen against the plastic casing with a totally blank expression.
"Please observe, Mr Julien," she replied, her tone empty of any empathy.
Before Julien could take another step forward or try to talk his way out of this, the smiling doctor brought the spinning chainsaw down and pushed it right through the skinny kid’s arm.
"Ahhhhh!" the kid screamed at the top of his lungs, thrashing against the cold metal operating table even though he was heavily drugged with painkillers just a minute ago.
’What the actual fuck,’ Julien thought to himself, his stomach doing a terrible flip as the brutal scene unfolded in front of his eyes.
’I cannot just stand here and watch this happen, but if I pull a weapon right now, Kyle and Maya are completely dead along with me because there are way too many soldiers right outside that door.’
He was totally frozen in place, forced to watch as red blood sprayed all over the doctor and the surrounding medical equipment.
Thankfully, the crazy scientist had already pulled down a thick plastic cover over his white coat to catch the massive mess, proving they did this specific procedure all the time.
The severed hand fell right off the table and hit the floor with a wet thud, and the blood just kept flowing out of the stump without stopping at all.
The screaming kid eventually passed out from the overwhelming pain and the blood loss, leaving the cold laboratory completely silent except for the buzzing of the overhead lights and the dripping sounds hitting the floor.
The other scientists in the room did not even blink, just writing on their clipboards as if nothing had happened.
"Dose 767, please," the doctor asked politely, turning around and holding his gloved hand out like he was asking for a scalpel in a normal hospital.
A young nurse in a matching white coat stepped forward immediately and handed him a syringe filled with a strange light blue liquid.
The doctor took the syringe and stepped back over to the unconscious kid, slowly injecting the weird blue vial directly into the bleeding stump while carefully watching the open wound to gauge the immediate reaction.
Julien stood there holding his breath, waiting to see what kind of crazy miracle drug this military cult had managed to cook up in their dirty basement.
He waited for five whole minutes, and absolutely nothing happened.
The blood just kept dripping slowly onto the floor.
Ten minutes passed in total silence, and the wound still looked the same as before.
Julien actually felt his face going completely pale as the reality of the situation fully set in.
They just maimed a perfectly healthy kid for absolutely no reason because their experimental drug was a total failure.
But then, something disturbing started happening right at the edge of the severed bone.
The torn flesh suddenly started bubbling and shifting around on its own, slowly pushing outward to form a small, fleshy sprout.
Julien watched in shock as the sprout rapidly grew longer and thicker, snapping and cracking loudly as new bones literally formed themselves out of thin air.
Within a few seconds, the kid had a completely normal, fully functional arm resting on the table. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
The doctor smiled brightly and started scribbling down excited notes on his clipboard.
But the weird blue potion did not stop working.
The newly formed hand suddenly twitched, and then it started growing bigger and bigger at an impossible speed.
The skin stretched out super tight like a massive water balloon filling up way past its limit as the terrible mutation quickly spread up the arm and straight into the kid’s chest, inflating his entire torso with that weird blue energy until the skin literally could not hold it together anymore.
Without a single second of warning, the guy’s entire body exploded across the room.
Julien flinched hard, raising his arms to cover his face, but he still felt a few warm splashes of blood hit his neat merchant clothes.
The entire operating table was destroyed, leaving behind a horrifying mess that Julien did not even want to look at or think about.
The smiling doctor just let out a long, disappointed sigh and wiped a drop of blood off his safety goggles.
"Subject failed," the doctor muttered to himself, writing another quick note on his clipboard.
"We will just try another potion formula on the next one in cage four."
Julien was speechless, staring at the casual horror happening like it was just another boring Tuesday morning at the office.
The blonde woman finally looked up from her digital pad and turned to face Julien, completely ignoring the massive mess covering the laboratory floor right behind her.
"You see, Mr Julien," the blonde woman explained, adjusting her glasses while her voice remained perfectly calm and professional.
"Whatever grand plan the gods must have for us in this world, we must be absolutely ready to face it head-on. We are going to create a monster army of our own so we can actively participate in that grand contest the system showed everyone when the apocalypse started."
Julien felt a cold shiver run all the way down his spine when he heard those specific words.
She was talking about the original system announcement.
The one that basically told humanity they were just a small part of a massive galactic game and forced the dimensional gates to open everywhere.
These crazy cult members were not trying to close the gates or rebuild society at all. They were actually trying to mutate their own people into horrific monsters so they could play the system’s sick game and win whatever prize the gods were offering.
They wanted to build a literal army of freaks.
’These people are completely out of their minds,’ Julien thought, slowly wiping a drop of blood off his cheek with the back of his hand.
’And here is the biggest problem right now. I brought twenty bottles of low-tier potions into their main testing facility.’
He swallowed hard, looking down at the small canvas bag he was holding in his hands. If they were willing to blow a kid up just to test a healing factor, he did not even want to imagine what they were going to do to him when his fake potions failed their strict inspection.
They would probably just lock him in one of those cages and feed his items to the next volunteer.
"So," the blonde woman continued, holding her empty hand out toward Julien with a polite smile.
"Let us see exactly what kind of alchemy you brought for us to test today. We are always looking for new formulas to perfect our army."
