Chapter 218: Tea?

Never once had Esme seen this woman crying or being emotional. She always felt like Luciana had a heart of steel. While it was admirable but somehow it worried her too.

Yet, it worried her more as she watched Luciana crying miserably.

Esme sat up on the bed, shifting Luciana’s head to her knee, ’’What happened?"

Pearls gathered on her gown as Luciana cried harder, curling up on the bed.

Esme stroked her hair quietly, not knowing what to say.

Once Luciana started calming down, she inhaled a deep breath, ’’The past year, I was living with guilt. My heart was burdened. I was so worried you would be taken advantage of. I was so worried about you... I blamed myself whenever I saw how naive you were,’’ she sobbed, ’’I am responsible too... For what happened to you, I am responsible too.’’

’’Ssshh... Calm down. Don’t take responsibility for things you haven’t done.’’

’’You don’t know. You might never forgive me if you regain your memories one day,’’ Luciana sat up on the bed.

’’Whatever it is, it’s in the past,’’ Esme whispered.

She knew there was more to everything but she was not curious about any of it anymore. Maybe she was but she wanted to put it behind herself.

Luciana wiped her tears, ’’I never wanted to lie to you. But I have never seen a half-mer surviving after they regained their lost memories.’’

’’I know. I understood that when Jeremiah told me how it is. And now...’’ Esme lowered her head, ’’I don’t want any of those memories back. The world is so huge, Lucy,’’ she looked around the room, ’’Heavenly realm, mortal realm... What happened in the past is not necessarily the only important thing. Instead of thinking about the past, I have decided to make new memories in the future.’’

Luciana frowned.

’’What?" Esme quirked a brow.

Luciana quietly hugged the woman. Aleister is alive. He is alive. If you don’t remember him... ’’You don’t know how relieved I am. You lifted all the guilt off my chest, Es. Now, I don’t have to worry about you at all.’’

’’I told you to not nag at me like a mother.’’

’’I know I know. I should have known better,’’ I should have known better that, with or without your memories, you are still the sly Esmeray Reis who was my worthy nemesis.

Luciana laughed, ’’I am so relieved and so happy.’’

’’I thought you would be angry for the lies.’’

’’I should be but it feels nice to be lied to,’’ Luciana hugged the woman tighter, almost crushing her, ’’You should even lie more often,’’ I missed the manipulative Esme.

Esme was speechless and breathless.

The sound of approaching footsteps caught her attention.

She turned towards the door only to find Cardan standing frozen at the doorway.

’’Ladies, am I interrupting something?" The man raised his hands awkwardly.

Luciana glared at him, ’’Yes. Get lost now that you know it.’’

’’You...’’ Cardan blinked, ’’Don’t you think you are being quite rude to me lately?"

’’Did you think I would be kind to you after you cornered me?" Luciana pushed herself to her feet, standing on the floor.

’’Cornered?" Esme tilted her head to the side.

’’He approached me because of you,’’ Luciana turned to look at Esme, ’’As they say, one should keep their enemies close to watch their move so I befriended him to see through his motives.’’

’’Why me? Do I know him?" Esme blinked, wondering if he was a part of her lost memories too.

Cardan frowned.

Luciana sighed, ’’Regardless of the past, I don’t remember anything between you two for him to have any ulterior motives against you,’’ Aleister was Cardan’s enemy but she did not understand what was Esme’s role in this. But her instinct told her that he was targetting Esme because Esme’s powers hurt his crazy mother back then, ’’I said I wanted you to meet him one day because I was beginning to trust him as a friend.’’

Cardan glanced at her, stunned.

’’Shocked?" Luciana asked the man, ’’But I did trust you, your Highness. I thought we have come way far, even putting that deal behind us. Now, we were friends. But you shattered my trust by cornering me to bring Esme here so I came along with her. If you had done something to her, then we were all going to go down together.’’

’’I...’’

’’You are curious why I am telling you this now?’’ Luciana interrupted Cardan, ’’You should be aware of the first reason why I am not wary of you anymore,’’ Aleister. She could see the answer in Cardan’s eyes.

Aleister was alive and he was looking at Esme just like he used to look at her in the past. She was familiar with that look in his eyes. After all, she was infatuated with the man once. It confirmed that he was no impostor.

And he would be able to protect Esme.

The clueless Esme leaned back on the bed, not knowing what they were talking about. She wondered how she managed to make so many enemies given her cautious nature.

Luciana strode towards the man, "The second reason. My dear immortal prince, I saw how affected you were when Esme used the trident. So, the pure divine powers can harm your impure powers that contain your mother’s black magic.’’

Cardan frowned as if he was having an internal struggle.

’’Don’t be offended that I am talking about your mother. I just don’t like her,’’ she whispered, ’’So, it means Esme is more than enough to protect herself. Now, keep your motives to yourself and get out of my sight. I, Luciana Norwell, have always liked to push men but being pushed around by men...’’ Luciana tilted her head to the side as she smiled, ’’...has never been my preference.’’

Esme clapped, unable to hide the stars in her eyes, ’’You are so heroic, Lucy,’’ she threw the same words that the woman had thrown at her.

Leo, who was stirred awake by the ruckus, jumped to Esme’s lap before joining his paws together for slow claps. This Cardan boy never suited his eyes too.

Luciana was speechless inwardly but she maintained her composure as she glanced at Cardan, waiting for the man to make his move.

’’I just...’’

’’What? Are you going to attack us or are you going to spout lies?" Luciana glared at him.

Esme sneakily moved to take out the trident when she heard Luciana’s words.

’’I just wanted to ask...’’ Cardan cleared his throat.

Luciana frowned. What was this manipulative man plotting now? ’’I am not falling for your tricks anymore. Speak. What is it about?"

"...Are you still having tea with me?" Cardan asked coyly, avoiding her piercing gaze.

"Pfft!’’ Esme pressed her palm to her mouth.

Luciana: ...

Leo: "..."

Cardan: *shy smile*
