Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 308: You know...
Back in Defire.
"Tell me more about yourself...’’ Esme glanced at the man who was sitting in front of her in a daze as she suppressed the throbbing sensation in her head.
’’I am...’’ Rezeph’s eyes gradually regained clarity.
Esme slumped back in the chair, panting softly as she shook her head, ’’I am still unable to control your mind for more than a minute. I do not see any improvements here.’’
Looking at her disheartened expressions as she forgot her etiquettes and whined, a beautiful smile bloomed on Rezeph’s handsome face, ’’You have improved these days.’’
Esme looked at him suspiciously.
’’Think of it. When you started practicing your powers on me, you could not control my mind even for a second. But now, you can control my mind for a minute. That means you can easily use your mind-controlling abilities on the elders of the sea court without having to fear failure."
Esme looked at him in a daze, ’’Really?"
’’Why would I lie to you?" Rezeph smiled dotingly.
Esme blinked. She could not help but wonder... Just how much was the difference between their powers that even controlling his mind for a minute meant such a huge improvement? Just how powerful was he?
Noticing her admiring gaze, Rezeph’s charming smile turned even wider, ’’Now that you see that I am quite powerful, do you think it is useful to have me as your father? Will you call me father from now on?"
Esme snapped out of her reverie. Hearing his words, she did not turn solemn like usual. Instead, she ended up chuckling, "Being a daughter comes with responsibilities. I am afraid I will be lazy.’’
Rezeph quickly straightened up, ’’Not at all. All you have to do is state your wishes. I will be the one fulfilling them. You don’t have to do anything at all except for being my daughter.’’
Esme looked at him as she felt warmth seeping inside her chest.
When she was silent, Rezeph felt a moment of panic. Maybe he was pushing her too hard. In the end, he sighed and changed the topic, ’’Show me your control over the hellfire.’’
Esme nodded. She glanced at the curtains behind him and in the next moment, it caught fire. Sparks flew in the evening sky as the huge curtains gradually turned to ashes.
Rezeph was surprised, "Not bad.’’
Esme smiled.
’’But what surprises me more is that no girl would be improving her powers on the day before her wedding,’’ he seemed to be chastising her but his gaze was still doting.
Esme bit her bottom lips. What wedding? She prayed that tomorrow never arrived at all.
Her mind kept wandering to whether Luciana and Cardan found Duke Maverick and Rowan or not.
After the argument with Aleister, she felt guiltier. She realized she was in the wrong for accusing Cardan of something he had not even done yet. But she never meant it. She had acted out of frustration but she would never have sacrificed Cardan just to capture Marilyn as she had suggested to him.
Esme sighed... No crying over spilled milk. Although he did not seem to be upset with her but if he was, she would just apologize and coax him.
Rezeph sighed upon noticing her silence, ’’In this wedding... is there something I can help you with?" his tone was solemn.
Esme stiffened when she heard that. She looked at him in disbelief, ’’You know...’’
She did not say anything else but his knowing gaze told her that he knew that she had regained her memories.
Rezeph smiled briefly, ’’I knew it that day when you were almost discovered by Jeremiah while mastering hellfire.’’
Esme was shocked and after a long time she could not utter a word, ’’Then, do you know the reason why nothing happened to me? They say that a half-mermaid like me who transformed completely would not survive it if I regained my memories then... how can I still be fine?"
’’You are a half-mermaid,’’ Rezeph nodded as he looked out of the window, a fleeting sadness flickered in his eyes as he spoke, ’’That being said, one of your birth parents was a human.’’
’’While the other was a mer,’’ Esme completed his sentence.
If one of her birth parents was a human then she would not be half mermaid unless the other was mer. And her mother was a human.
But even if she was a mermaid... why was she different? Why were her powers so unique?
"Every powerful mer has at least one such special ability that no other mers possess even though there are a few chances that someone from their bloodline had that ability,’’ Rezeph said as if he could see through her worries.
Esme looked at him.
’’Your friend, Luciana, has the ability to captivate and charm people with her voice just like your mind-controlling ability. But unlike you, she does not need to master it because she was gifted with it. The moment she starts singing, she will hold everyone spellbound, bewitching them and having immense control over them. Her ability would not have a strong effect on me or the elders of the sea court but nevertheless, she is a powerful entity in the sea. Nobody else in the Norwell Family had that ability and that is why she surpasses her brother in terms of power.’’
Esme was surprised. She knew Luciana was powerful but she never knew the extent of her powers, ’’...I have never heard her singing..’’ No wonder.
"Although her upbringing was rather questionable because of Marcus’s influence in the past, she is a talented child. They have been going around to human kingdoms so I had forbidden her from using her ability unless it was a question of life and death,’’ Rezeph was worried that Luciana’s ability would be manipulated and used by her father hence he issued his order since a long time that their powers should not be used to the full extent on the land unless it was to save someone or protect themselves.
Being the coward that he was, Marcus did not have the audacity to go against the royal decree recklessly.
