Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 323: Drop your act
Adrian flicked Jeremiah’s collar, discreetly shoving him away.
Jeremiah stumbled a few steps back before he crashed on the floor with a loud ’thud’ near Elder Hall’s feet.
Ruby gasped.
’’My hand slipped,’’ Adrian shot her an apologetic look but the moment his eyes returned to Jeremiah, his gaze turned cold.
"_" Liar
Elder Hall plastered a huge smile on his face, ’’Lady, slipping of hand is a very natural thing. One cannot control it. You need not be upset about it.’’
Ruby’s lips twitched.
Elder Hall quickly picked up the jewel boxes that fell from Jeremiah’s grasp, looking at Adrian with sparkling eyes.
Jeremiah disguised the venom in his gaze, ’’Are you my brother-in-law?" he softened his tone.
Adrian’s jaws clenched, ’’You heard that?" he narrowed his eyes at Ruby. The bonehead had the audacity to address him as such.
As he took a threatening step in Jeremiah’s direction, Ruby grabbed his hand to hold him back.
Her gaze wandered off in Esme’s direction who was standing there quietly, looking every inch of an obedient bride. Her eyes flashed, ’’There must be some misunderstanding,’’ she glanced at Jeremiah before looking up at Adrian.
Adrian pinched the spot between his brows.
Ruby caressed his palm with her thumb, lost in her thoughts, ’’Calm down.’’
’’You said Esme is safe with Aleister but now she is married to some street rat and the scoundrel I trusted my sister with is nowhere to be seen.’’
Elder Hall pursed his lips, trying to stifle his laughter.
Jeremiah’s face turned green at the humiliation coming his way. Since when has he ever been degraded in such a manner? He was always the revered heir apparent to the throne of Defire. People bowed to him wherever he went. But now, he was being referred to as a street rat.
Ruby helplessly glanced at the Esme, ’’What happened?"
Jeremiah stiffened. He shot up from the ground and rushed towards Esme to hold her in his arms.
Esme blinked, her gaze shifting between Adrian and Ruby, ’’I am tired...’’
Adrian’s lips parted. That was not the Esme he knew.
The more he looked at the condition she was in, the further he felt himself wanting to avenge her.
She was so involved with that scoundrel but now she is married to another. Something must have happened along the way for her to turn into this.
Adrian narrowed his eyes at Jeremiah who was holding Esme tightly.
Ruby panicked, ’’Wait. Don’t act on impulse.’’
Adrian roughly raked his fingers through his silver hair as he closed his eyes, trying to take deeper breaths, ’’Ask him to back off.’’
Ruby shot Jeremiah a look but the man did not budge from his spot. He held Esme tighter and glanced at Adrian, ’’Brother-in-law, I will have the maids arrange the chambers for you. Es needs rest so we will be heading back to our bridal chamber.’’
Adrian’s eyes snapped open, ’’You....’’
’’What bridal chamber?"
Adrian’s words were cut off by a panicked voice.
’’I told you we will be late,’’ Luciana snapped at Cardan who was following her like an obedient child.
Cardan’s footsteps slowed for a moment when he saw Adrian.
Adrian’s eyes narrowed when their eyes met. How could he forget the person because of whom he ended up in the land of serpents? A place like heaven did not suit him. There was no day or night.
And more so, the snake clan. He woke up to the fragrance of venom in the garden and he went to bed with tiny snakes lingering around his toes. Although he did not dislike it as much as he thought he would for certain reasons, some grudges would forever be remembered.
His gaze landed on Ruby for a moment before he glanced back at Cardan.
Cardan smirked like a devil and shrugged, following after Luciana like an aimless puppet being led by her, ’’Whatever you say, Lucy.’’
Luciana frowned, ’’They got married. What are you smiling for?" Her eyes turned red. All these efforts in the past few days and still, they could not stop it in time.
She glanced at Esme’s lifeless face. At the end of the day, Esme was still coerced into this.
Jeremiah raised a brow when he heard them. It seems like he was not wrong after all. His little niece was indeed involved in these tricks. She has been secretly going against him all this while. Nevertheless, it was never too late to teach her a lesson.
He smiled, ’’Luciana, come here. Where have you been these past days? Your father has disappeared and your brother has locked himself in the manor, refusing to step out. I was so worried for you...’’ his words trailed off when he spotted someone walking behind Cardan.
He was not unfamiliar with the face he had seen in paintings before he ordered his men to abduct that person.
Maverick Daven.
Jeremiah’s gaze snapped towards Luciana, his eyes filled with disbelief, ’’You...’’
Luciana pursed her lips, ’’I have known what you are up to,’’ she whispered after a moment.
’’Come here, Luciana,’’ Jeremiah’s tone hardened.
Elder Hall frowned, ’’What is happening?’’ He looked at Rezeph whose face seemed slightly frosty but the man did not seem to be affected by what was transpiring around them.
Elder Hall was somewhat bewildered when he saw the way the King was acting so calm.
Elder Hall glanced back at Luciana, ’’Lady Luciana, what are you insinuating?"
’’Luciana!" Jeremiah frowned.
’’Uncle, it is time that you drop your act now. You had your motives behind wanting to marry Esme. You manipulated her but you were afraid of what would happen if she ever regained her memories. You had Aleister’s uncle abducted so that you could have her under control if she ever tried to go against you.’’
Jeremiah’s lips parted. It had just been a day since he told Esme about that but it had been a long time since Cardan and Luciana were not seen in Defire. How did they know? How did they end up finding Maverick?
