Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 330: A reflection of Rezeph
Even Esme’s revelation had not shaken him to that extent. He had always prided himself on being the most intelligent person. He had prided himself on the fact that he had used every other person in the royal court as his pawn. Day by day, year after year, he had approached his goal, the throne of Defire.
But it was as if all this while, he was the pawn all along.
The choice that they made was to become the King’s sacrifice and new face.
He thought he was cruel but the ruthlessness that he heard of sent shivers down his spine.
Like a moth to the flame, he had approached the throne slowly, never realizing that he was walking towards his own doom while coveting it.
The revelation shook him to the core.
’’I do not believe it,’’ Jeremiah swung his hand with a strong force, sending a wave of black flames that aimed straight at Rezeph’s forehead.
’’Father!" Esme rushed forward, only to be held back tightly in Aleister’s arms.
In the next moment, the pillars in the sea court exploded and a mysterious glow enveloped the room as five shadows appeared in front of the King’s throne, shielding Rezeph.
The black flame fizzled into dust and dispersed into thin air.
As the glow faded, one could see five tall statures that stood in front of Rezeph, sparkling like burnished bronze. They had human likeness to them but four wings emerged from each one’s back, their bodies almost resembling an airy illusion that could fade any moment.
But those silvery eyes sparkled with a murderous intent as they gazed at Jeremiah.
Esme stopped struggling in Aleister’s arms as she glanced at the shocking sight in front of her eyes, ’’They...’’
’’Guardian Angels,’’ Aleister whispered in her, ’’Every true god has guardian angels who are devoted to them,’’ he had read about it in heaven but he did not expect Rezeph to still be commanding these guardian angels despite falling from his position.
And it suddenly dawned on everyone in the room that there had always been mention of elders and guardians of the sea court but who had ever seen them? They had seen a few court officials like Marcus Norwell, but who had ever encountered those guardians that mers whispered about?
Jeremiah cowered back, only to fall back on the ground when he did not feel the pillar behind him anymore.
’’Evacuate.’’
With Rezeph’s orders, the guardian angels quietly disappeared and five pillars once again appeared inside the throne room. But this time, no one would misunderstand those pillars as simple stone pillars.
Leo, who had at some point escaped from Esme’s arms to rub his itchy back on one of the pillars immediately retreated a few steps back from his position. He glanced at the pillar warily and sashayed back to Esme to rub his body on her gown.
Rezeph placed his wine glass aside and pushed himself to his feet, walking down the stairs. With every step that he took, his features transformed.
By the time he stood in front of Jeremiah who was shaking like a leaf, Rezeph no longer resembled the King that people knew.
Crimson hair, pale gray eyes, a broader stature, and an otherworldly spirit; one could see the silhouette of the great fallen god in him.
And Esme looked like a reflection of the mesmerizing man that graced everyone’s visions.
’’The throne...’’ Rezeph looked down at Jeremiah, the touch of nonchalance still there on his face, ’’Am I worthy of it now?"
’’Y.. You... No... How can it be?" Jeremiah shook his head, partly in denial, partly in disbelief.
How?
The man he had looked down on... the King he had looked down on was all along the very same person who was their creator, their god.
The woman he had deemed useless... was the daughter of their true god.
And the powers he had always prided over were worthless in front of the man because if the most powerful witch had to play petty tricks to banish God Zephyr from heaven, then who was he?
He thought he was holding all the strings but it took one moment for Jeremiah’s delusions to come crashing down like a vulnerable sand castle.
He shook his head, his body shaking by the revelations made in front of him.
Rezeph raised his hand.
’’No!" Cardan stepped forward.
Rezeph’s movements halted as he glanced at the man from above his shoulders, ’’Are you trying to defend him, Prince?" The hard edge to his tone demanded an explanation for the abrupt interruption.
Rezeph had always known Esme had her motives for being with Jeremiah but she did not tell him and he never forced her. The moment he had laid his eyes on the bride, he had known it was not his daughter.
But that did not diminish the rage that had grown inside him seeing Jeremiah torturing and hurting someone with the same face as his daughter. Watching that face scrunching up in pain had sent a dagger twisting in his chest.
Cardan frowned, ’’Your Majesty, it would be too easy if you end his life right there and then. I have grudges against him and I want him to be in the dungeon, being tortured every other day till he begs for death.
Luciana, who was still standing stunned by all the revelations, looked at Cardan in confusion when she heard him. A grudge? What grudge did he hold against Jeremiah?
Rezeph did not respond to him but he shifted his gaze to Esme who quietly averted her gaze as if it had nothing to do with her.
Rezeph placed his hand down and glanced at Elder Hall who took the cue.
In a few seconds, countless shadow guards surrounded the unconscious Jeremiah and dragged him out of the throne room. Another batch of shadow guards set out to annihilate Jeremiah’s hidden guards and moles in the Crystal Castle.
Bereft of Jeremiah’s shrieks, the throne room regained its peace once again.
