Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 332: Talk to my brother
Esme opened her mouth to speak, ’’Because they are bound by blood, Al can decipher the meaning of Leo’s words despite Leo being a beast. Not only that, they can communicate with each other regardless of where they are. The moment you found Uncle, we were aware of it. And that was why we were not surprised to see Uncle standing like this,’’ she smiled at Duke Maverick, the memories she had made in Daven Castle became alive in her mind almost immediately.
Yet, times have changed. Duchess Flora was nothing but an impostor. King Alexander was no more.
And... Duke Maverick was no longer the pale and sickly man she remembered, nor was he sitting in a wheelchair. But what remained the same was that still so serene and gentle expression on his face.
While Esme was lost in her thoughts, Luciana glanced at Cardan in disbelief.
She was reminded of how she kept embracing Cardan and complaining to him throughout the journey because of her panic and fear of them not making it to Defire in time.
And all that while, he had known that Aleister and Esme were aware of Duke Maverick’s safety.
’’Lucy, let me explain...’’ Cardan approached her warily, ’’I... ahh...’’
Luciana stomped on his foot and flipped her long golden hair that slapped his face face harshly as she stormed off.
Cardan inhaled the scent of her hair lingering around him as he chuckled.
Cardan’s chuckle prompted Luciana to walk faster.
’’Cough...’’ Once she left, Cardan broke out in coughing fits.
He recovered his expression before anyone could notice anything amiss but the pallor on his face did not go unnoticed by Aleister’s sharp gaze.
’’I’d take my leave now. The journey has fatigued me,’’ Cardan winked at his brother playfully as he turned around to walk off.
’’Duke, care to accompany me?" Cardan’s footsteps halted near Duke Maverick.
Duke Maverick looked at the man with a deep frown between his brows.
Aleister walked towards them, ’’Uncle.’’
Duke Maverick looked at his nephew and without another thought, he held him tightly in his arms. Being vulnerable for a long time, Duke Maverick possessed a delicate build and his arms did not manage to circle Aleister’s large body but that did not stop him from holding him tighter as tears prickled his eyes.
Only he knew what he had experienced when he thought he had lost his family overnight.
Aleister closed his eyes, ’’I am fine.’’
As they parted, Aleister glanced at Cardan, ’’Take him to his room.’’
’’Brother, I am not a servant here now, am I?"
Aleister quirked a brow at the man.
Cardan rolled his eyes, "Come, Duke. Feel honored to be served by me. If not for you being his uncle...’’ he clicked his tongue and dramatically waved his hand as he walked out of the courtroom with huge strides.
Duke Maverick glanced at the man’s skeptically. After he lost the sensation in his legs and became a cripple, he preferred peace and tried not to be hostile towards others.
Yet, if someone asked him to name an enemy of his, he would take Cardan’s name with closed eyes.
But when he saw Aleister nodding at him, Duke Maverick nodded at the King and everyone else present in the room, ’’I need some rest. Please excuse me.’’ he turned around and left.
’’Esme...’’ Rezeph approached Esme but before he could reach her, she curtsied him.
’’Your Majesty, pardon me. I want to talk to my brother,’’ Esme looked at Adrian and Ruby.
Rezeph’s face fell.
Elder Hall felt his heart breaking for the King and he cursed Jeremiah in his heart. It was only recently that Esme had started addressing the King as father but now because of Jeremiah, certain revisions were made and the princess seemed to have gotten offended again.
Back in Esme’s room.
’’Have you been doing good?’’ After everything that he witnessed in the sea court, Adrian was left with no other words.
Esme smiled, ’’Without memories, everything was incomprehensible. But now I know where I stand and what I do.’’
A relieved smile crossed Adrian’s face.
’’How was your time in the serpent clan?" Esme looked at her brother meaningfully, ’’Did they treat you well?"
Adrian paused for a moment, a strange light flickered in his eyes, ’’I have healed.’’
’’Brother, about Ruby...’’
’’Ruby once told me that someone had left you in her care and her duty was to protect you,’’ While Esme, Aleister, and Adrian left the throne room, Ruby stayed back there, ’’And I believe the person she was talking about was your father.’’
Even Esme had figured out that much. She remembered reading about how God Zephyr had once lent the serpent clan a helping hand in the face of disaster. Their was bound to be some connection between the both and she had been long aware of it.
’’But brother, that is not what I was talking about.’’
Adrian raised a brow, ’’No?"
Esme shook her head, ’’You... Will Ruby go to Nevesray with you?"
Adrian paused, the realization of what Esme was hinting at gradually dawned on him, ’’She is going back to the heavens. Her father is all alone and he needs a capable heir.’’
Esme frowned, ’’Aunt and Uncle are looking after the Kingdom. If you want, you can continue your stay in the serpent clan.’’
’’What for?" Adrian chuckled, ’’We have troubled Aunt for as long as it was possible. She is now married to Duke Elias. It is only right for me to handle my responsibilities by myself without troubling them any further.’’
Esme looked at him quietly.
That gaze of his little sister told him that there was some more persuasive that she wanted to do but seeing his determination, she chose to keep quiet.
And for the first time in his life, he preferred how quiet his sister was.
’’After everything that has transpired recently, I want to go Nevesray without a moment’s delay.’’
