Ruby’s lips parted but eventually, she simply nodded without saying anything.

As Aleister and Esme left the room, Leo jumped off the bed and followed them without a moment’s delay.

The guards closed the door.

Ruby awkwardly glanced at the closed door and reached out to touch her neck. She spoke up with a soft laugh, ’’They are behaving strange...’’

Her words were yet to finish when Adrian grabbed her hair, pulled her closer and captured her lips in a rough kiss.

He kissed her so hard that she could feel the pain on her, in her heart, intermingled with pleasure all so good.

It was about him, she believed. The man knew how to make everything feel so good.

Adrian yanked her closer when she struggled to get out of his grip, ’’No,’’ he whispered against her mouth, biting her lips hard, ’’You do not stop me, Ruby.’’

Before she could say anything, he captured her lips again in a [passionate kiss and Ruby felt her senses weakening as she softly pressed her palms on his chest and kissed him back with equal fervor.

As their lips parted, Ruby stood there in a daze, feeling the pain on her lips and the tingles in her body.

’’Come with me.’’

Adrian’s words bewildered her.

She looked at him in confusion.

’’Come with me to Nevesray,’’ he repeated.

Ruby gradually recovered from her daze, feeling her heart thumping a little faster, ’’Why?"

Her question had him halt. Why? He did not know.

He was aware that she had things to do, she had places to be. He told Esme all those things some time ago when she asked him about it.

Why? She had every right to ask that question whose answer was incomprehensible to him.

He held her hand in his, intertwining their fingers, ’’To see the kingdom,’’ When he could not figure it out, he ended up saying something that did not sound believable even to his own ears, ’’It is a magnificent place. You would adore it, Ruby. I want you to spend some time there before you leave, see all the beautiful things. I will get you anything that catches your attention and you...’’

’’You caught my attention and I am not even keeping you,’’ Ruby chuckled, ’’What more can I desire? What else would I ask you for?"

His heart skipped a beat.

Adrian was bewildered at the feeling that enveloped him so fast that he could not catch it. It came and disappeared in a flash.

Ruffled by his silence, Ruby spoke up again, ’’You talked about beautiful things, Adrian. And you might have forgotten that I have spent a long time in Nevesray, protecting Esme in the shadows. All that while, I saw beautiful things there, and came across rarities. But I can tell you that none of them are as beautiful and rare as you.’’

If it was an illusion earlier, then now it was not.

He could feel it, every thump of his heart as it beat faster and faster till he was suffocated.

’’Ruby...’’

’’It was nice to meet you, Adrian,’’ Ruby interrupted him, ’’You annoyed me when I took you to heaven, being cold and sarcastic about everything. There were times when I wanted to kill you rather than healing you. But times changed and so did my opinion of you.’’

’’You are going to be a great ruler. And the people of Nevesray are blessed to have you,’’ because I was not. I was not that lucky.

As she took his hand out of his grasp, Adriaan felt a void in his heart.

He could feel that something was slipping from his hold and the desire to grab it even tighter consumed every inch of his body.

Yet, he stood there quietly, watching as she turned around and left, taking every step further away from him till she was out of his sight.

Adrian’s departure was very discreet and not that extravagant, arranged meticulously by Aleister according to his preferences.

Ruby stood near a tall boulder in the sea and watched him leaving from a distance.

Every once in a while, the man would turn around to glance towards the castle.

’’He is trying to find you,’’ Esme’s voice snapped Ruby out of her daze.

Ruby smiled, not taking her eyes off Adrian, ’’Is he?"

Esme raised an eyebrow, ’’What do you think?"

’’Does it matter what I think?"

’’It does.’’

Ruby sighed, ’’Little girl, do you like painting?"

’’I am not that little anymore,’’ Esme rolled her eyes.

’’You used to call me Sister Ruby,’’ Ruby sighed emotionally.

’’I still call you that. So, sister Ruby, would you not tell me?" Esme looked at her, feeling curious about the situation. She could sense the reluctance to part in both the people then why are they acting like they cannot see it?

’’Do you like painting, Esme?"

Esme nodded.

Esme glanced at her.

’’Because boredom and loneliness makes people find solace in anything that takes their mind off it. Your brother and I are such kind of people. We were lonely and we were bored but apart from each other, we have a life. I have my responsibilities and he has a kingdom to look after,’’ Ruby sighed, ’’The parting feels strange because we have gotten used to each other. A few days later, this feeling would just wear off. We would forget each other the people forget things that they do when they are intoxicated.’’

Esme paused. Then, she ended up smiling.

’’What was that?" Ruby glared at her, ’’Am I being funny?"

Esme laughed as she shook her head, ’’No. I just realized how naive I was in the past.’’
