Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 355: Their blood and flesh
"You said it will take you time to come here,’’ Cardan said.
Marilyn arched an eyebrow as she looked at her son, gauging every expression on his face, ’’Why? Are you really not happy to see me here?" she tilted her forward, observing Cardan closely.
Cardan did not even flinch when he responded, ’’I am just curious.’’
"You believe that those chains can tie me there?" Marilyn laughed, the disbelief roaring in her voice as she shook her head and elegantly raised a hand to wipe the corner of her eyes with the tip of her index fingers, ’’Unless that man ends my existence by killing me, he would never get rid of my existence. I would always haunt him regardless of whether he wanted it or not because I have power in my hands. Do you know what that power is?"
When Cardan did not respond, Marilyn, stepped towards him, a cold smirk touched her lips as she said, ’’It’s you,’’ the smile on her face turned wider as she continued, ’’Your life is the power I would always hold against him. If he kills me, he kills you, my son, his son. And that man... I know him well enough to understand that he would never bring any harm upon you.’’
’’Mother, why do you hate Esme?"
Cardan’s question took Marilyn aback for a moment. Astonishment flickered through her eyes.
Cardan had nothing to say about the words that she said because it was nothing new for him. No discoveries were made and he had always been aware that he was but just a tool for her.
’’Why do you hate Esme to the extent that you want to ruin her? I understand Aleister, but why her?"
"Because she is his daughter,’’ Marilyn’s eyes narrowed viciously, like a poisonous serpentine, her face seemed to be spewing venom as she spoke, ’’That face is familiar to me and I had known it ever since I laid my eyes on her for the first time. Things and people that brought me harm in the past would all be eventually destroyed by me. I will remember every grudge.’’
Her response did not surprise him. Before he got to know about Rezeph’s identity, he would have been shocked but after he got to know who the King of Defire really was, Cardan had long joined the dots in his mind and figured out the reason why his mother hated Esme.
’’For every grudge I hold, I would settle it one by one against every person who conspired against me,’’ she stepped back, eyes crazed with a thirst for revenge, ’’This is not my body. This is just a mirage of my powers that I sent to meet you. My body is still locked in that dungeon. A few more souls, a few more sacrifices and I would be free.’’
’’Souls? Sacrifices?" Cardan looked at her with a frown.
Marilyn’s brows tugged together, and a hint of displeasure touched her face, ’’Since when did my good son become so disobedient? You...’’
’Creak’
’’Who is there?" Marilyn narrowed her eyes.
Luciana pressed her palms on her mouth as she dropped behind the bushes. The sound of approaching footsteps got her heart rising to her throat.
She had followed Cardan mindlessly. Never once did she think that she would chance upon a situation like this and not even once in her wildest dreams did she imagine that she would see Marilyn here in Defire.
The dagger of betrayal sliced through her chest making her numb in her spot. She did not budge, she did not move knowing well enough that one small mistake would cost her her life.
And Luciana Norwell was not born to die at the hands of some vengeful witch in the borders of an unnamed forest.
Her eyes started searching for a route of escape immediately as she put her heart to rest. Thinking about Cardan’s betrayal would bring her nothing but harm, she convinced herself as she looked for a way to shift away from her hiding without being noticed by Marilyn. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
’’I found it.’’
Cardan’s voice made Luciana halt. Suddenly, all her determination broke down like a sand castle as her heart started aching.
Unwanted tears welled up in her eyes.
The thought of trusting a person who might be using her all along...
"Mother, I found it,’’ Cardan repeated as he walked towards Marilyn.
Marilyn turned around to look at him and her gaze shifted to Chiroptera that he was holding in his hand. The tiny thing struggled, flapping its wings when Marilyn’s hand approached it, ’’This little thing had the audacity to intrude when I was talking? Hmm?" she whispered as she grabbed it from his hand.
Her sharp nails dug into the chiroptera’s wings as she dragged them down, tearing its wings bit by bit as its shrill screams reverberated in the vast forest. It twisted its neck, slumped, and died in her grasp, making her look at it in disgust.
She threw it away and glanced at Cardan who had remained emotionless throughout, ’’I will take my leave but you don’t forget your motives.’’
’’You got your prey to play with,’’ Marilyn whispered, ’’But use her well. You told me she is close to Esme then use her well to reach where you should be. Remember my words, son, only when you establish intimacy with Esme will you be able to get control over pure divine powers. Hateful as she is, she is useful as well.’’
While Marilyn was speaking, she did not notice the subtle shift in Cardan’s expression as his gaze scanned around the place.
’’Do not ask me questions like how or why. There is no time for that now. You know what you need to do and you have to do it. And..’’ Marilyn paused, her eyes narrowed dangerously as she dropped her voice, "Anybody can, but you, my son, can never betray me. Always remember that," her words carried a warning.
Marilyn glanced at him in determination, ’’Only their blood and flesh will satiate my thirst.’’
’’Only their blood and flesh.’’
’Only their blood and flesh.’
She disappeared from the place she was standing at but her coldblooded words rang like the words of the devil, making one’s heart tremble.
