Eternal Life Starts from Tai Chi-Chapter 34: Danger Perception
The Cyan Yuan Sect had extracted a lot of useful information from Zhao Ziqing. Although Yang Chan didn’t know the details, the Sect rewards laid out before him told him all he needed to know.
Silver coins, medicine packets, pills, and a Pharmacist’s Notes—all things Yang Chan desperately needed—had been delivered as his reward.
The Qi Nourishing Soup, Strengthening and Nourishing Porridge, and Lantian Jade Refining Pills were three of the most sought-after medicines for those who Nurtured Strength. Even someone with poor Talent had a high chance of breaking through to the External Refining Realm if they had access to abundant medicinal resources.
This meant the Sect was treating Yang Chan as an Official Disciple focused on Nurturing Strength, and the rewards were tailored accordingly.
The Lantian Jade Refining Pills in particular were useful not only for Nurturing Strength but also for External Refining. He was given one bottle containing ten pills.
The Pharmacist’s Notes was a reward befitting his status as a Pharmacist’s Assistant. It was a collection of insights left behind by a Pharmacist and would be of great help to him. While such notes might be commonplace to the Cyan Yuan Sect’s upper echelons, they were exceedingly difficult for an Official Disciple to obtain.
As far as Yang Chan knew, neither Shu Yu nor any of the other assistants had a copy of a Pharmacist’s Notes.
In addition to these tangible rewards, there was one more: not a physical item, but a spot in a training program.
A spot in the pharmacist training.
Yang Chan was being added as an extra, not taking up one of the original training slots.
Yang Chan hadn’t expected this at all. Xu Gaocen hadn’t picked him, yet the Sect had arranged a spot for him anyway. ’Life is truly unpredictable.’
The Sect’s rewards weren’t particularly extravagant, but they were perfectly suited for someone with the dual status of a Pharmacist’s Assistant and an Official Disciple. They were exactly what he needed most.
For Yang Chan, the most useful of all the rewards was the Lantian Jade Refining Pill. It was a type of pill that only a Mid-grade Pharmacist could refine.
While not considered a particularly advanced Elixir, refining it required a Pharmacist to have reached a certain level of skill. The process had strict requirements for the sequence of Alchemy and control over the heat; without sufficient ability, it was simply impossible to create.
’With my current abilities, I can’t refine them yet. But for me, this is another source for gaining Potential Points.’
’Even though it’s only ten chances, it’s still an excellent gain.’
With the silver coins from the Sect reward on top of his monthly stipend, he wouldn’t be short on cash for a while. This was also good news for Yang Chan.
If not for the pressures of life, no one would choose to live by pinching every penny.
Yang Chan was no exception. The only reason he was so frugal was that he never had enough silver coins.
Before the pharmacist training began, Yang Chan’s life in the Medicine Preparation Institute remained largely unchanged. His aura, however, underwent a massive transformation over the past few days.
After spending his Potential Points, Yang Chan’s Tai Chi Health Cultivation Skill broke through to the Tier Three Mastery realm, just as he had hoped.
His Lifespan also broke past the one-hundred-year mark, fulfilling his wish.
The old saying "May you live to one hundred" was no longer a blessing for him, but a curse, setting the bar too low. For Yang Chan, this was a good thing.
Furthermore, his strength, speed, and reaction time had all improved. The most obvious change, however, was in his senses; he could now immediately tell if someone was looking at him.
If that person bore him ill will, the sensation would be even sharper. He’d taken to calling it his ’danger sense’.
Though it didn’t appear on his status panel, Yang Chan knew just how useful this ability would be.
His Talent also increased by four points in one go—the largest single increase yet. This meant his Martial Arts Talent was no longer considered low-grade, but had reached the mid-tier.
Within the Cyan Yuan Sect, he was now considered a talent worth nurturing, someone with the potential to become an Elite Disciple. Even though his current Martial Arts Cultivation had already reached the level of an Elite Disciple, this validation still made Yang Chan happy.
’Panel!’
Yang Chan summoned his status panel.
[Name: Yang Chan]
[Lifespan: 16/106]
[Talent: 12]
[Potential Points: 0.5]
[Mastered Professions: Pharmacist (Tier Two Entry 2%)]
[Comprehension Technique: Tai Chi Health Cultivation Skill (Tier Three Mastery 3%), Ox Demon’s Mighty Fist (Tier Two Entry 43%), Turtle Breath Body Cultivation Skill (Tier Two Entry 2%)]
After his Tai Chi Health Cultivation Skill reached Tier Three Mastery, Yang Chan had invested one Potential Point, which only increased the progress by 2%. Based on his initial rate, this 2% was equivalent to practicing the full technique at least five thousand times. Moreover, the technique now included additional components like the Silk Binding Force and Calm Cultivation Skill, making each full practice session take longer than before.
The total cost to level up this time would be about fifty Potential Points, two and a half times what the previous breakthrough required. Although the demand was high, his rate of acquiring Potential Points was also increasing. ’If I keep accumulating, it’s only a matter of time before I break through again.’
’A lifespan of over a hundred years is just the beginning,’ Yang Chan thought. ’It’s still far from my personal goal. I need to keep working hard.’
Now that his Tai Chi Health Cultivation Skill was at Tier Three, Yang Chan turned his focus back to the Ox Demon’s Mighty Fist to continue raising his Martial Arts Cultivation. After that, he would work on the Turtle Breath Body Cultivation Skill.
...
The pharmacist training took place in a dedicated room within the Medicine Preparation Institute, which was part of the Medicine Hall.
The room was filled with various medicinal herbs, clearly indicating that the instruction would be hands-on to leave a more lasting impression.
A conspicuous plaque reading "Pharmacist Training" hung above the door, drawing a lot of attention.
Everyone in the Medicine Preparation Institute, from Servant Disciples to Pharmacist’s Assistants, couldn’t help but cast a few extra glances its way. That place represented hope.
Many hoped to become one of those chosen, as it meant they were one step closer to becoming a Pharmacist—they would be an apprentice pharmacist.
Most of the Pharmacists in the Medicine Hall had earned their title only after completing this very training.
A small, self-taught minority existed, but they were rare.
Yang Chan now stood before that very plaque. ’I never even planned to participate in the pharmacist training, yet here I am, one of them.’
’Li Junhao racked his brain trying to get in, only to land himself in the Law Enforcement Hall.’
’The twists and turns of life are truly fickle!’
Still, for the next eight days, he wouldn’t have to participate in the daily medicine preparation tasks, but he would still get credit for them. It was like getting paid to attend a work conference—not a bad deal at all.
Listening to lectures on pharmacist-related knowledge was certainly more meaningful than fetching and weighing herbs.
That sort of work only felt significant at the very beginning when he was learning a lot. After a while, it just became routine, losing its initial thrill.
"Junior Brother Yang Chan, Pharmacist Xu is going to be short one person for the next eight days. Things will be a bit busier for the rest of you, but it’ll go back to normal in a few days," Shu Yu said with a smile, noticing Yang Chan looking at the pharmacist training plaque.
’To anyone else, it might have sounded like a polite request, but Yang Chan could detect an ulterior motive in her tone. He could clearly see the smugness hidden in her eyes.’
’Sure enough, you only see a person’s true colors after spending enough time with them.’
’Take Shu Yu, for example. She had never shown this ugly side of herself before the competition for the training spots began.’
