Evolving Infinitely From An E-Class Hero-Chapter 101: Two Sides Of A Coin
All I could do after reading the comments to my fill was just grin, my Mom in turn seemed flabbergasted by my reaction.
"How can you smile from that?!"
"Ha! Cause its funny Ma!"
I glanced at the phone once more before giving it back to my Mom.
"Like you said... Two sides of a coin. I know who I am, I know the kind of hero I am... These people are just the other side of the coin."
She responded with a proud smile and a slight nod of her head before putting the phone away.
"So, why don’t you want to join a guild though? Isn’t that what most Heroes do?" She asked inquisitively to which I immediately let out a huge sigh as I was anticipating that exact question from her sooner or later.
"Well, I make enough as an SSS-Class hero already... Enough for the both of us and more to spare! So money is not really an issue"
"And I don’t think I need their training assistance, I can do that very well on my own... Bottom line is that I don’t see any benefits with joining a guild for now at least."
My Mom didn’t say anything but just stare at me in silence. I half expected some sought of feed back, maybe her opinion or advice but I quickly realized that even if she did, I still would have done whatever was on my mind anyway.
"I see... In that case, I’ll be fine Blondie, don’t mind the reporters okay?"
"Okay ma’am, got it."
I nodded to her as she left the living room.
If the current situation got any more discomforting than it already is, then I might have to do something about it, maybe contact the ISA to say that the reporters should receive orders to stay far away from my residence.
But for now, I can definitely endure it.
There were a lot of things I wanted to do, and plenty of work to get through. But for now, finding and bringing that Hero Hunter to justice was my number priority at least for the time being.
I found myself lost in thought as I sift through the information my Tactical Swarm Drones continuously collected.
However, after several hours of searching the nearby area around the train site there were still no lead as to his whereabouts.
Bakuzan — The Hero Hunter. I wanted to know what would motivate someone to take such drastic measures again earths protectors.
Aside that, I still my duties as the first SSS-Class hero to ever emerge. For example, by default I was an automatic member of The Guardian Corps but even though I was the highest ranking, I still cannot assume the position of leader.
That spot remained for Golden Guardian as it was an elected post.
And aside that, being an SSS-Class Rank hero also meant that I had the ability to completely annihilate the planet if I so choose, which also means I would be the first to be contacted incase there’s a global threat eminent.
It all dawned on me at that moment, the responsibility, the weight of never coming short unless people’s lives would be at stake. Suddenly, I began to understand Golden Guardian’s never ending desire for perfection.
My eye’s narrowed to a slit. My gaze shifting toward the front door.
Someone is coming this way...
I could feel it as soon as it entered the building. A suspicious presence emitting a strong aura. I couldn’t sense any hostile intentions from the presence, but still, I didn’t feel like humoring an uninvited guest. Especially one that exhuming a presence stronger than Golden Guardian himself.
Did a guild send someone over? Or, was it a foolish reporter placing too much faith in his meta abilities.
No.
There’s no way. Who would have such a commanding presence greater than S-Class Rank 1 other I.
Didn’t matter which was which. I wasn’t going to be gracious enough to accept with a smile and uninvited guest trying to invade the privacy of my home, when the hour was already past eight in the evening.
Step step step.
I strode towards the door quickly.
Then, that’s when it hit me. This aura was already familiar the closer I got to it, I don’t know why I hadn’t compared it up until now!
And, as I expected...
Knock, knock...
Clang!
And from he slowly widening gap of the door, a familiar face if a man came to view.
"The Apostle..."
I spoke.
He nodded gently, "Good evening Mr. Reno Renly..."
A brief moment of silence passed between us before he peered between the space.
"May I come in?"
I stood my ground in front of the door, then glanced at my watch.
"It’s thirty minutes past eight... So unless you’re planning to crash here for the night I suggest you leave now..." I said firmly.
The Apostle seemed unmoved by my statement and then he let out a smart chuckle before swiftly returning to his mean persona.
"Well, I assure you... What I’m about to say is of utmost interest to you... Seeing that you have your little bots all over the ISA and the train site I thought you’d be the best candidate to discuss this with..."
I stared at him straight into his eyes.
"Bakuzan..." We both said to eachother in unison.
"Come in..."
The Apostle stepped in, his presence quiet but commanding. His sharp eyes scanned the room before settling on my mom, who had just returned from the kitchen with a glass of water.
Their eyes met.
"Ah, you must be his mother," he said with a polite smile, bowing slightly. "A pleasure to finally meet the woman behind such a remarkable young man."
My mom chuckled lightly, clearly flattered. "Well, aren’t you charming," she replied, handing him the glass.
I squinted. My brows furrowed.
Was that... flirting?
I gave The Apostle a sharp side-eye and subtly ran my thumb across my neck—the universal "back off" sign.
He caught it, smirked faintly, then turned to me and took a seat on the couch. I followed, not breaking eye contact.
"Now," he said, clasping his hands together, "down to business..."
His voice dropped, all warmth replaced by cold purpose.
