Chapter 41: Meeting The Alien Orcs

I tilted my head and narrowed my eyes as the High Orcs came into view.

They moved in groups with some kind of monster resembling a hyena strapped with chains and held with restrain.

"High Orcs!" Trooper blasted out.

They were as big as an SUV vehicle standing vertically, with red skin and huge jaws lined with sharp teeth and a long cananine tooth sticking out.

Their clothing were crude from some kind of material that wasn’t native to earth, they wielded melee weapons made out of hot light energy— A light saber of some sought.

It was evident they had been living under their means in this new terrain now called Ghost Town. The resources left by the fleeing people were running dry and sooner or later I’m sure they would plan another act of conquering more of Sector Z.

"Are those mutated hyenas?"

I became sure of it once they got close enough. They were indeed hyenas but wey bigger than a normal one and had more killing intent oozing out of them.

The High Orcs released their hyenas and disappeared into the shadows. A warning act, I suppose.

The hyenas dashed at us in their numbers.

Trooper had been standing with his shield covering his front the whole time the Orcs were present, but then, he relaxed a bit immediately they disappeared.

And then, he simply used his shield to batter down the hyena that jumped for his neck.

I and Dr Grace Sparks stood in the middle of the circle the heroes had created around us as the mawled down the creatures one by one.

Before long, the hyenas were taken care of.

Over a dozens of them were turned into corpses in the blink of an eye. The heroes dusted their hands like they had just finished having a cake party not even fazed by the assault.

"What is this?"

"I didn’t even get to use my Supreme Art before it ended."

"You’re talking, I didn’t even get to kill one..."

"Why did they release these hyenas and just disappear? What’s going on?"

"Yeah, it’s almost like they were warning us or something"

Their voices were getting louder as they felt more confident about the success of the mission after defeating the pack of hyenas.

"Hmm..."

The Strike Team captain; Trooper stared at the corpses of the hyenas and scratched the bridge of his nose.

"I’m sure this was an attempt to scare us away... We shouldn’t let our guards down, you saw what they looked like..."

"They’re huge and that’s just their average size... Even their weapons too, it uses some kind of core technology that heat up air into a desired shape— hot light".

"Wait..."

Tank, B-Class, Rank 5 spoke up immediately grabbing everyone’s attention.

"The High Orcs sending mere mutant hyenas at us and disappearing is a sure sign that they’re underestimating us... I say we push forward and take them out, they wouldn’t know what hit them", he finished.

Trooper turned to face Tank and glared at him with a furrowed eyebrow.

"For Christ sakes. You’re from the Blue Cross Guild... You guys are always hungry for publicity, is that why you rushed to take out five hyenas on your own?"

Tank twiched and took a step towards Trooper.

"What did you say?", he asked with a deep voice.

Tank was easily bigger than everyone in the strike team, with his genetic modified body that always him to increase his muscle mass, turning him into some kind of hulking brute.

With this ability of his, he had the tendency for arrogance. Thinking he was the strongest hero there is.

"We still need to be cautious as we approach the High Orcs space ship, there’s a reason this place hasn’t been touched by any hero for the passed five years!"

Trooper bellowed with authority as he and Tank squared up with eachother in a power tussle.

Now, for every mission that heroes are being assigned on, there is a designated captain who is tasked with calling the shots and leading the others to victory.

If the team falls short, the captain is also held responsible for the failure of his teammates.

Not to mention that they would try as much as possible to represent their guilds well, so you’d bet that Trooper was taking this captain role rather seriously.

"Ahem, Tank. Fall back, we’re a team here remember?", Dr. Grace Sparks called out from beside me.

I was so in tune with what was going on that I had momentarily forgot Dr Grace was tagging me. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"These creatures have intellect, they are smart enough to voyage through the galaxy so I’m sure they wouldn’t be easy to defeat..." Trooper said while turning to the rest of us.

Unlike mindless villains, these beings were rather calculative and intelligent monsters and they would be quite difficult to deal with.

So, I see why the ISA decided to bring me on this mission.

"Somehow... My premonition might be right after all." I let my thoughts escape my lips.

Dr Grace Sparks peered at me as if she aimed to bore a hole through me.

"What did you say..."

Step!

I immediately raised my index finger and covered my lips.

Step! Step!

Step! Step!.

From the shadows casted by moon, we could hear the matched footsteps getting closer.

’The real enemies are coming ’.

"Get ready for battle heroes!" Trooper forcibly squeezed is voice out.

Finally, they showed up again from the darkness of the buildings from both sides of the road. The eyes of the heroes grew wider in anticipation.

"High Orcs!"

"What the hell? Why are they so many?"

Many well armed High Orcs warriors now stood rows before our eyes.

My system went wild with Compass Needle notifications, it came up to a total of thirty-two.

When the High Orcs showed up previously, they were just about four or three in number. That number alone was able to take us out if they wanted to.

But thirty two? I was so sure the heroes would be able to hold their own against them.

"Something... Something’s wrong." Someone muttered softly under his breath.

The High Orcs pointed their hot light sabers at us as a sign of war.

’Looks like the real fight is about to begin... ’

I quickly retreated to a corner, so I could quietly observe the unfolding situation and find the right time to step in.

Two reasons.

One, entertainment; I have never seen a mission of heroes in action before, so I thought it would be nice to watch.

Two, if I stepped in now and took out the High Orcs on my own, the heroes will undoubtedly be aware of my skills and inform their individual guilds, and that would give me the publicity I don’t need at the moment.

Dr. Grace Sparks noticed my movement and furrowed her eyebrows inquisitively before returning her focus to the action.

Soon, the battle began.

"Krooooar!!!!"

One of the High Orcs who seemed to be the leader of the assault, poised his weapon and lunched it like a spear at the strike team.

Trooper was at the forfront, he steadied his shield at the direction which the weapon was headed.

Clash!

A violent meeting between the hot light spear-like weapon and Troopers shield that sent the weapon ricocheting off the shield and upwards.

Immediately, the High Orcs and the heroes engaged in a bitter close quarters battle.

Now, all the heroes had different abilities that added to the chaos.

Trooper was a formidable soldier that was excellent in close combat and he was also good in long distance too when he launched his shield like a projectile, his guns helped too.

Tank was the type to mawl through his opponent with reckless abandon using his brute strength and huge muscle mass.

Firebrand, A-Class, Rank 22. He was just a rank under Tank in the A-Class and he had the ability to manipulate already lit flames, so it wasn’t uncommon to see him carrying a fire torch around.

Steel Python, B-Class, Rank 6. She possessed a rod that elongated into a large python with several heads, she could use it to restrict her opponents movements.

Metal Fist, B-Class, Rank 17. Much like Tank, she had freakish physical strength and was really good with hand to hand combat and acrobatics.

Firebrand fire fired balls of fire against the High Orcs from a distance, while the rest engaged in close combat with them.

Boom!

Ka-boom!

The fire balls thrown at them didn’t really seem to do much, it didn’t even burn up their clothing much more their skin. The High Orcs had thick skin so the effects of heat wasn’t visible.

The High Orcs definitely held the upper hand due to their massive size and overwhelming numbers.

"Argghhh!!"

"H-hurry"

The wounded appeared rather quicker than I had expected, Metal Fist had a large burn mark scabbed against her arm and Dr. Grace Sparks quickly pulled her aside to administer first aid.

"I’m coming!"

She knelt down next to the heavy groaning hero and began applying all soughts of things on her wound.

Just as she concentrated on the injuries of Metal Fist, a tall shadow suddenly loomed over her.

She turned, raising her head and then gasped in despair.

"Huh...!!!"

Her eyes widened with horror when the High Orc raised his weapon high and instead of running, she shielded Metal Fist with her body.

I admired that.

’How heroic... ’

"Tch..."

"Initiate..."
