Chapter 101: Chapter

Bai Ming stepped out of the courtyard quietly, pulling the door closed behind her as she adjusted the small bundle of food in her hands.

The morning air was still cool, and the paths of Unit 50 were slowly coming to life as people moved about, some carrying water, others preparing for the day ahead.

She walked slowly.

Her steps were steady, but her eyes moved around carefully.

This place was still unfamiliar to her.

Every house looked similar, and every turn felt new. She had only arrived recently, and even though she tried to remain calm, there was still a sense of uncertainty in her heart.

She tightened her hold on the food slightly and continued walking.

As she turned past one of the paths—

She stopped.

Her brows frowned immediately.

It was Li Manman’s house.

Even from the outside, she could recognize it.

Her expression hardened slightly.

For a moment, she stood there, as if deciding whether to keep walking or not.

Then—

Curiosity got the better of her.

She glanced around once, making sure no one was paying attention, then slowly walked closer toward the side of the house.

The wall was not completely sealed.

There were small holes between the worn wooden panels.

Carefully, she leaned slightly and looked through.

From where she stood, she could see part of the courtyard inside.

It was not as large as Su Long’s house.

But it was still manageable.

The space was enough for a small family to live comfortably.

Inside, Grandpa Fu was sitting down, his posture relaxed, while Grandma Fu sat not far from him, speaking about something in a low voice.

From the other side, Aunt Fu was moving back and forth from the kitchen, carrying pots of food and placing them on the table outside.

Her movements were quick, but there was a trace of impatience in them.

Nearby, Fu Jia was sweeping the courtyard.

But her movements were slow.

Lazy.

She leaned slightly on the broom as if she would collapse if she did any more work.

She barely pushed the dust aside before stopping again.

Then—

A sharp voice cut through the air.

"How dare you slack like this!"

Bai Ming stiffened slightly.

Her eyes shifted.

Li Manman.

She stood not far from Fu Jia, her posture straight, her expression sharp.

She was dressed differently now.

Her hanfu was simple, but the fabric was clearly better than what most people here wore. It was clean, neat, and slightly more refined, making her stand out even in this place.

Her eyes were cold as she looked at Fu Jia. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"You are completely useless," she continued harshly. "You cannot even sweep properly."

Fu Jia’s face turned red immediately.

"I am sweeping—"

"Is this what you call sweeping?" Li Manman cut her off.

Her voice rose slightly.

"At this rate, you will remain unmarried for the rest of your life and become nothing but a burden."

Fu Jia’s grip on the broom tightened, but she did not dare to speak back.

She only lowered her head and forced herself to move the broom again.

Li Manman watched her for a moment, then turned her attention elsewhere.

She walked toward the table.

Aunt Fu had just placed the food down.

Li Manman picked up one of the dishes and tasted it.

The moment the food touched her tongue—

Her expression changed instantly.

"What is this?" she snapped.

Aunt Fu froze.

"It is the food I just made—"

Li Manman immediately slammed the chopsticks down.

"This tastes terrible," she said sharply. "Did you even try it before bringing it out?"

Aunt Fu’s face stiffened.

"I followed the usual method—"

"Then your usual method is wrong," Li Manman said coldly.

Her tone carried no respect.

"No wonder everything here is so poor. Even the food cannot be made properly."

Aunt Fu’s expression darkened, but she did not dare to argue.

Grandma Fu frowned slightly but did not interrupt.

Fu Jia stayed silent, her head lowered as she continued sweeping, pretending not to hear anything.

The atmosphere inside the courtyard had completely changed.

It was no longer calm.

It was tense.

Heavy.

Standing outside, Bai Ming watched everything quietly.

Her brows slowly furrowed.

"...So this is how it is," she thought.

The difference was clear.

Very clear.

Without staying any longer, she straightened and stepped away from the wall.

Bai Ming walked away from the wall slowly, holding the food in her hands as her thoughts drifted back to the past.

Back then, when she had just married into the Fu family at the main mansion, her life had been very different from what it was now, and not in a good way.

Su Long had been the daughter of a wealthy merchant, raised in comfort and treated with respect wherever she went, while Bai Ming had only been the daughter of a low-ranked baron, someone with a title but very little real power or influence.

From the moment she entered the Fu household, the difference in their backgrounds had been made clear to her again and again.

Aunt Fu never let her forget it.

She would compare her to Su Long at every opportunity, using Su Long’s name as a way to humiliate her.

She would say that Su Long was capable, well-mannered, and worthy, while Bai Ming was lacking in everything.

Fu Jia was no different.

Instead of helping her, she joined in the mockery, always looking for something to laugh at or complain about.

If Bai Ming made even the smallest mistake, it would be pointed out loudly and turned into something much bigger than it was.

There was no peace for her in that house.

And Fu Fong—

He never once stood up for her.

Even when he saw how she was treated, he chose to stay silent, as if it had nothing to do with him.

Later, he stopped even pretending to care and began spending time with other women openly, without shame or concern for how it affected her.

Still, Bai Ming endured everything quietly.

She stayed loyal.

She accepted every harsh word, every humiliation, and every moment of neglect, because she had no other choice and nowhere else to go.

But now—

Things were no longer the same.

She was no longer in that mansion.

She was no longer trapped under their control.

She was free.

As she walked, her thoughts returned to what she had just seen through the wall.

She had expected that Li Manman would become the next person to suffer under Aunt Fu and Fu Jia, especially with her sharp tongue and proud attitude.

But instead, it was the opposite.

Li Manman was not being suppressed.

She was the one in control.

She was the one scolding, criticizing, and pushing them down in the same way they had once done to Bai Ming.

Bai Ming’s expression remained calm, but her eyes grew quieter.

"So this is how it turned out," she thought.

There was no sympathy in her heart.

Only understanding.

What they had done before had come back to them.

Not in the same way, but with the same weight.

Karma had found its way back.

Bai Ming tightened her hold on the food slightly, then continued walking without looking back.
