Exiled!? Ha! I have An Infinite Space-Chapter 103 -
The walk was not too long, but the path was rough and quiet, and the further we moved away from the houses, the more open the land became.
When Fu Sheng finally slowed down, I lifted my head and looked ahead.
The land stretched wide in front of us.
It was large, much larger than I expected, and although the surface looked dry, it was not completely dead. Some parts of the soil were darker, and to one side, a small river flowed steadily, its water moving gently under the morning light.
My eyes paused there.
"There is water," I said.
Fu Sheng nodded.
"It is not strong, but it will be enough if we use it properly," he replied.
I stepped forward slowly, taking in every part of the land.
It was not perfect.
There were weeds growing in some places, and the ground was uneven in others, but it was workable.
Very workable.
Before I could say more, voices came from the side.
"You came."
Two men walked toward us.
Their clothes were simple, and their expressions were not friendly. They looked at us as if they were already impatient.
"You are here for the land?" one of them asked.
"Yes," Fu Sheng replied.
The man nodded and crossed his arms.
"Then listen well," he said. "This land is not cheap."
I stayed quiet.
"How much?" Fu Sheng asked.
The man looked at us and then said it clearly—
"Eight hundred taels."
I almost laughed.
Eight hundred.
That was not just expensive.
That was ridiculous.
Even in a better location, that price would already be pushing it.
Here?
It was clearly an attempt to cheat us.
But I said nothing.
I only watched.
Fu Sheng did not react immediately either.
He looked around the land again, taking his time, as if he was carefully considering it.
Then he spoke.
"That price is too high," he said calmly.
The man frowned.
"It is not," he replied. "This is good land."
Fu Sheng shook his head slightly.
"No," he said. "It is not."
The air shifted slightly.
"The soil is uneven," Fu Sheng continued, his tone steady. "Parts of it are dry, and it has not been maintained for a long time."
He pointed toward one side.
"The weeds have already spread. That alone means extra work before anything can grow properly."
The men did not interrupt him this time.
"And the water source," he added, glancing toward the river, "is small. It is useful, but not enough to support large farming without effort."
He looked back at them.
"This place is also far from the main road. Transporting goods will not be easy."
The first man’s expression became stiff.
Fu Sheng continued.
"Even in the market, land like this does not reach five hundred taels," he said. "You are asking for eight hundred."
Silence fell.
The second man frowned.
"This is the barren land," he said. "Things are different here."
Fu Sheng nodded.
"Yes," he said. "That is exactly why your price makes no sense."
The two men exchanged looks.
Their confidence had already started to drop.
"Then how much will you pay?" one of them asked.
Fu Sheng answered without hesitation.
"Four hundred taels."
The men reacted immediately.
"That is too low!" one of them said.
"It is the correct price," Fu Sheng replied.
They argued.
Back and forth.
The men tried to push it higher.
"Seven hundred," one said.
Fu Sheng shook his head.
"No."
"Six hundred and fifty."
"No."
"Six hundred."
Fu Sheng looked at them calmly.
"This land is not worth more than four hundred and fifty," he said.
They hesitated.
That was the first time they paused.
"You are pushing too much," one of them said.
"And you are asking too much," Fu Sheng replied.
There was no anger in his voice.
Just certainty.
The discussion went on for a while longer.
But slowly—
The men stopped arguing as strongly.
They knew he was right.
And they knew they would not get a better offer.
Finally, one of them let out a breath.
"...Fine," he said.
"Four hundred and fifty taels."
The other man looked unhappy, but he did not argue.
The deal was done.
I watched everything quietly.
Then I turned to Fu Sheng.
"That was impressive," I said.
He glanced at me.
"It was necessary," he replied.
I stepped a little closer.
"You reduced it from eight hundred to four hundred and fifty," I said. "That is not just necessary. That is skill."
He did not answer, but I saw it—
A small change in his expression.
Then I said it.
"Since you did so well, I will reward you tonight."
He froze.
"...What?"
"You heard me," I replied.
His ears turned red almost immediately.
"That is not necessary," he said quickly.
"It is," I said calmly.
He looked away.
"...Focus on the land," he said.
I almost laughed.
"...Alright."
I turned back to the field.
This time, I did not see empty land. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
I saw potential.
This place would become our foundation.
I did not waste time after the price was settled.
I took out the money and handed it over to the men without hesitation. They counted it carefully.
Fu Sheng looked at the men as they finished counting the money and said, "Everything is correct, so there should be no more issues."
One of the men nodded and replied, "There are no issues, the land is now yours, so do not come back to us later with complaints."
Su Long gave a faint smile and said, "If there are complaints, we will handle them ourselves."
The men did not say anything more after that, and they turned around and left, walking away without looking back.
Su Long watched them go before turning her head slightly and saying, "They left quickly."
Fu Sheng glanced at the direction they went and replied, "They already got what they wanted."
Su Long nodded and then looked ahead at the land as she said, "Now it is quiet."
Fu Sheng stepped forward and said, "Let’s take a proper look."
Su Long followed beside him and said, "We should check everything carefully before deciding anything."
As they walked, Fu Sheng pointed lightly toward the ground and said, "This part is too dry, and the soil here will not support crops without work."
Su Long looked down and replied, "It can be improved, but it will take time."
They walked a little further, and Su Long noticed the hut and said, "There is something there."
Fu Sheng followed her gaze and said, "Let’s check it."
They walked closer, and Su Long pushed the door open before saying, "It is empty, but there are a few tools inside."
Fu Sheng stepped in slightly and looked around before saying, "It is enough for storage, and we can rest here when needed."
Su Long nodded and said, "It will save us some effort."
They stepped back outside, and Fu Sheng looked across the land again before asking, "What do we do next?"
Su Long turned to him and said, "What do you think we should do first?"
Fu Sheng stayed quiet for a moment, then said, "We will need seeds, because without seeds, nothing can start."
Su Long nodded and replied, "That is obvious."
He continued, "We will also need proper tools, because the few inside that hut will not be enough for this land."
Su Long agreed and said, "We can get those."
Fu Sheng then added, "We will need people to help clear the land, because doing it alone will take too long."
Su Long folded her arms slightly and said, "That can be arranged."
Fu Sheng paused for a moment before continuing, "Even if we prepare everything, this is not the right time."
Su Long looked at him and asked, "What do you mean?"
Fu Sheng met her gaze and said, "We are close to famine, and the soil is already weak, so growing crops now will not be easy."
Su Long stayed quiet for a moment before replying, "You are right."
Fu Sheng watched her and said, "So what are you thinking?"
Su Long looked at the land again and said, "I am thinking that difficulty does not mean it cannot be done."
Fu Sheng did not interrupt her.
Su Long continued, "If the soil is weak, then we improve it, and if the time is bad, then we adjust."
Fu Sheng’s expression remained steady as he asked, "And you are certain that will work?"
Su Long turned to him and said, "I am certain that doing nothing will not work."
Fu Sheng was quiet for a moment before asking, "So you want to start now?"
Su Long nodded and said, "We start now, because if we start early, we will be ahead of others."
Fu Sheng looked at her carefully and then said, "You sound very sure."
Su Long gave a small smile and replied, "I am."
Fu Sheng exhaled lightly and said, "Then I will follow your plan."
Su Long nodded once and said, "Good, because this land will not stay empty for long."
