Chapter 36 - Beyond Inferno

Two individuals materialized beside the head of the flame-breathing Behemech. One of them raised their weapon high, ready to strike downward, while the other held their weapon horizontally in a hacking motion, as if intending to slice the Behemech into a thousand pieces.

Carina and Herm nodded at each other before unleashing their attacks!

Herm's axe glowed, and as if gravity had pulled it to its limits, the attack sped up, crashing onto the forehead of the Ground Fire Hog. Sparks erupted as his weapon collided with the metallic parts of the monster. But the force didn't stop there—Herm tightened his grip, afraid to accidentally let go. The sheer impact caused the monster's head to buckle, cracks forming along its forehead as blood seeped out.

"Good!" Herm shouted.

Carina's glowing blade, on the other hand, targeted the Behemech's neck. She slashed nonstop, her weapon becoming a blur of light that appeared and vanished in an instant. Blood and metallic fragments erupted from her relentless assault, causing the already injured Ground Fire Hog to let out a painful cry.

The deafening roar startled the Primers on the scene—not because of fear, but because of the sight before them.

Some of them were witnessing the power of a Half-Aegis for the first time, and they couldn't help but be shocked.

One of the reasons why Primers waited for reinforcements before entering the portal leading to a Final Boss was that no single group could handle one alone. They needed as much help as possible—fighting a Behemech solo was pure suicide.

Yet, as they watched the New One's group force the Ground Fire Hog's head down, blood and metallic debris spraying in all directions, they realized just how far the gap between them was. Even those who had seen a Half-Aegis in action before found themselves in awe.

No matter how many times they witnessed it, the feeling of inferiority never faded.

Carina and Herm landed in front of the Ground Fire Hog at the same time.

And the moment they did, they activated their speed modules for another round of attacks.

However, before they could move, the Behemech let out a terrifying roar, flames erupting from its body.

The fire was far more intense than before. The blood that had been flowing from its wounds evaporated instantly, and its injuries began closing under the searing heat.

"Roar!"

With another thunderous bellow, the Ground Fire Hog gathered flames around itself, condensing them into balls of fire.

"It's using its first Skill!" Herm called out, his tone turning serious.

"I see it!" Carina snapped, turning toward their sniper and the others. "Destroy those fireballs!"

"Got it!" Fermin shouted, while Dave and Lance flanked both sides of the Behemech.

They aimed their weapons at the forming fireballs and, without hesitation, opened fire.

The Primers quickly caught on and did the same.

"Again!" Carina commanded, activating her speed module. Her body became a blur as she shot toward the Ground Fire Hog's head.

However, the moment she closed in, her eyes widened behind her black helmet.

Around her, an intense cluster of fireballs had materialized. She could see them forming, but with her body mid-air, there was no way to dodge.

"Sh*t!" Carina cursed, slashing at the closest fireballs in an attempt to destroy them. But it wasn't enough—the flames had already reached a mere foot away from her.

The Ground Fire Hog's first Skill—Beyond Inferno. It looked simple, but the concentrated fireballs packed more destructive force than its fire breath. Their only options were to destroy the flames before they fully formed or dodge them entirely.

But in Carina's situation, dodging wasn't an option.

She had no choice but to take the attack head-on.

"Watch out!!"

Herm's shout jolted Carina awake, but before she could react, something slammed into her, sending her hurtling toward the ground, followed by a deafening explosion.

"Argh!" Carina grunted as her body tumbled across the platform. Gritting her teeth, she stabbed her glowing sword into the ground to stop herself. "Herm!"

She looked up and saw Herm's body flying toward her.

Fortunately, he managed to somersault midair, landing on his feet just before impact—proof that he was still okay.

"Your suit wouldn't have been able to handle that attack. I had to take it myself," Herm said, exhaling sharply.

"Let's go again. I got careless," Carina straightened up, brandishing her swords.

At the same time, balls of flames rained down on everyone as the Ground Fire Hog furiously unleashed another barrage.

The Primers activated all of their shield tubes to protect themselves from the searing fire. Some weren't fast enough—flames engulfed their bodies, and their grotesque screams mingled with the deafening explosions and the rapid bursts of gunfire.

...

Kael watched everything unfold with an amused gaze. Even as flames rained down, he remained eerily calm, unbothered by the chaos despite not wearing a suit.

A ball of fire hurtled toward him—he sidestepped. His previous spot exploded, the shockwave ruffling his clothes.

Another fireball came—Kael moved forward, just a few steps, and once again, his last position erupted in flames.

He weaved through the deadly barrage as if he could see the future. Well, when one could instantly map out every attack trajectory with just a glance, it would look like future sight.

"They fear them, but they're nothing," Kael muttered, watching the New One group struggle against the Final Boss. "Half-Aegis? Just a piece of metal with limited use."

That was how Kael viewed the Exoskeleton Suits worn by the New Ones. The Primers acted as if they were unbeatable, but that was only because of their status—the powerful corporation backing them.

But these inexperienced Half-Aegis wearers? Kael wasn't impressed. Especially when they still hadn't put down this overgrown mutt. The damn thing only knew how to spit fire, and yet they were struggling.

Maybe they did deserve the title of newbies, Kael mused before shifting his gaze toward another group.

Aaron, was it?

A smirk crept onto Kael's lips as he dodged his way toward the group that had tried to steal his Growth Orbs.

Revenge—big or small—was always satisfying.

Aaron's group was struggling against the relentless barrage. Their suits were just standard models, equipped with only basic modular features. Against these fireballs, they were little more than walking kindling.

Pooling their remaining Shield Tubes together, they formed a makeshift barrier while firing desperately at the Behemech. But the shields weren't going to last. If the Behemech kept spamming fireballs, their defenses would break—leaving them defenseless.

Kael watched them squirm, caught between survival and maintaining their 'contribution' to the fight. It was amusing. Especially considering what they'd done to him.

Reloading his Pulse Sniper, Kael moved in behind them—his killing intent hidden beneath a veil of silence.
