Chapter 37 - You?!

The Ground Fire Hog continued to rain down its Beyond Inferno, unleashing dozens of flaming balls around its body toward the small humans surrounding it.

But despite its efforts to kill them all, the Ground Fire Hog was struggling because of the black-suited humans who brought it pain every time they appeared in front of it.

Cryo-Piercer Bullets caused ice to form around its body, making it difficult for the Behemech to move. With high-penetration rounds and other bullets raining down on it, the pain became so unbearable that all it could think of was destruction—to end its suffering.

The Behemech stomped its front feet on the ground before dashing toward the New One group. They were the main reason it had gone wild again, and all its fury was directed at them.

Meanwhile, the Primers who witnessed this didn't know whether to take pleasure in it or not, as they were already struggling to deal with the fireballs.

"We just have to hold on until these idiots manage to land a heavy blow!" Leader Aaron shouted to his teammates, who were protecting him using their Shield Tubes. He didn't stand idle—he kept firing at the giant Behemech, mainly focusing on one spot, just like the other Primers.

His bullets were laced with High Penetration and Extreme Power—popular rounds compatible with almost any rifle. His advanced weapon cast flashes of light on his serious face as bullet shells flew everywhere.

Aaron pulled a lever on the side of his rifle, and it let out a high-pitched whirring sound. Then, with a pull of the trigger, the usual rapid gunfire burst into a concentrated piercing light.

The high-density attack, powered by Extreme Power rounds, struck the Ground Fire Hog's left shoulder, causing it to stop for a brief second before continuing its charge toward the New One group.

"Boss! That monster just shrugged off your attack!" one of Aaron's teammates shouted.

"I know, you fool!" Aaron snapped, glaring at his teammate before narrowing his eyes at the Behemech's left shoulder.

This was the area he had been focusing on, using Extreme Power rounds from time to time. With the Aim Assistant Module that came with his Exoskeleton Suit, his accuracy was between 80% and 85%. After dozens of bullets, he finally saw results.

His last attack caused a metallic plate to fall off from the Behemech's left shoulder. It was a small opening—but it was the opportunity he had been waiting for.

"Hey! Focus on its left shoulder!" Aaron called out to his teammates, excitement evident in his voice. "I managed to make a small opening! If we concentrate our attacks there and take off one of its limbs, we'll have a higher contribution!"

Contribution—the deciding factor for rewards at the end of a Closing. It was what they truly sought. It was also the reason why the New One group acted like arrogant assholes, outright bullying them just to hog all the Contribution points for themselves.

Furthermore, with the New One group's powerful background, ordinary Primers like them didn't have the luxury of openly antagonizing them. Even if they tried, they had to set a boundary—to not let it escalate into something fatal. A real fight was the last thing they wanted.

Contribution in a Final Boss fight is an important matter for the Primers, as it determines whether they can claim a piece of metal from the Behemech or receive cash rewards once they escape the Fissure. But the most precious thing is, of course, the Behemech's Growth Orb.

If Aaron got his hands on it, he could choose to level up multiple times or use it to craft a better Exoskeleton Suit. If he was lucky and had enough money, there was even a chance he could obtain a Half-Aegis—just like the New Ones—though this required a team of talented Exo Engineers.

As for how Contribution was determined, Aaron didn't know. But something always appeared to measure it. And ever since the system existed, it had never been wrong.

Hearing their leader's command, Aaron's teammates began firing at the Ground Fire Hog's left shoulder. Their relentless attacks made the Final Boss howl in pain.

Fortunately for them, the Behemech's crazed eyes were still locked onto the New Ones, who were causing it even more pain.

The Ground Fire Hog tumbled to the side as Herm and Carina managed to land another devastating blow.

"More firepower!" Aaron shouted, veins bulging on his forehead. His advanced rifle let out a bright light that traveled from its core to the barrel before a powerful blast shot toward the Behemech's weakened left shoulder.

His teammates followed suit, pushing their weapons to the limit. Their eyes widened in excitement as their combined firepower was about to land on the Ground Fire Hog's weakened shoulder. If these attacks hit, they would surely take off one of its limbs!

However, what happened next made their faces stiffen before turning into sheer rage.

"What the f*ck?!" Aaron roared, his furious eyes locking onto the sniper and the gunners from the New Ones' group—Fermin, Dave and Lance.

Just before their attacks could reach the Behemech's left shoulder, a rain of bullets intercepted them, detonating the incoming firepower and rendering their efforts useless.

"Sh*t! They're really messing with us!" one of Aaron's teammates shouted.

"They're so damn greedy!" Aaron glared at Dave and Lance, who were sneering in their direction. Then, they tapped the sides of their helmets, activating black masks that concealed their faces. "They won't even let us take one of its limbs!"

Aaron could only watch as Dave and Lance fired at the weakened spot he had painstakingly worked for. Their attacks tore through the Behemech's shoulder, and with a sickening crash, the massive limb fell to the ground.

Seeing it, Aaron felt his heart bleed. "Argh! That should've been ours!"

"Incoming! Shields up!" a teammate shouted.

The Ground Fire Hog let out a furious howl, flames erupting from its body like a volcanic explosion. The sheer force of the blast summoned powerful winds, making the already scorching battlefield even hotter.

Now missing one of its limbs, the Ground Fire Hog had gone completely berserk. It unleashed another devastating explosion—likely another Skill—and hurled an onslaught of Beyond Inferno, a barrage of flaming projectiles.

Aaron's team barely managed to protect themselves, raising their remaining Shield Tubes just in time. The transparent barriers visibly melted under the extreme heat, and it was clear they wouldn't last much longer.

Even though he was seething with rage, Aaron forced himself to focus.

"We have to fall back!" he shouted, reinforcing his Shield Tube. "That damn thing is about to unleash another blast, and our shields won't hold!"

"Got it, Boss!" his teammates responded.

But before they could retreat, another unexpected attack came out of nowhere.

Bullets suddenly whizzed past them—slamming into their shields and shattering them into particles of light.

"What now?!" Aaron snapped, barely holding back his fury. He spun around, searching for the bastard who fired those shots.

But the moment his eyes landed on the culprit, his anger turned into pure killing intent.

"You?!"
