"Alright"

"But, you’d better go do what you were planning to do before"

"Our conversation can wait until much later…"

-Fssshhh…

Standing beneath the shower for the second time today, Flynn’s words surfaced in Amelia’s mind once again.

’He was so calm about it too…’ the lady thought to herself, the streaming drops of water from the shower creating a soothingly gentle and continuous pattering sound.

-Sigh…

Releasing a melancholic sigh from her lips, Amelia switched off the shower, got out of the bathroom and quickly dressed up in her nightwear, a silky silver-colored night robe with a similarly silver-colored nightdress underneath it.

In a few minutes, she was already out of her room and just as she was about to knock on Flynn’s door, the door of his room opened and the youth stepped out casually.

Considering it was a coincidental occurrence, Flynn gave Amelia a slight glance before finally speaking as he began to walk past her while gesturing with a wave of his hands.

"Let’s move somewhere else…"

Amelia just nodded in response as she watched as Flynn began to walk ahead of her, his retracted hand now in the pocket of his grey-colored loungewear.

Watching his back as he casually strolled forth, the lady realized just how much taller he had grown over the years.

She knew he had always been tall, a similar height to Aiden’s, but now, he had very well-dwarfed her when compared to their almost similar height when he and her were still in their tweens.

Following him closely by a few meters, Amelia soon found themselves at the balcony terrace of their luxurious dorm.

Overlooking their dorms’ small yet enchantingly beautiful garden, Flynn rested his arms on the ornate railings of the balcony’s terrace, his head angled upwards as he kept gazing at the crescent moon, a relaxed expression on his face.

Hanging over the night’s sky like a luminous half-pearl, it casted a comfortingly tranquil glow along with the cool breeze of the night.

Soon enough, Amelia also found herself leaning on the railings too, casting occasional glances over at Flynn whose silvery-green hair, along with her own brown hair was slowly swaying back and forth in the gentle breeze.

Despite having been the one to have requested for their conversation, now that she had actually been given the opportunity to speak with Flynn, she was at a loss of where to even begin.

She had practically been riding on the flow Flynn had created without realizing it while her herself hadn’t really done anything to fix the awkward tension between them.

’This really sucks…’ the beautiful lady inwardly commented, unable to initiate the conversation as no words even came out of her mouth no matter how much she tried.

If it was way back in the past, it would have been so easy for her to naturally start a conversation between them but things had really become a mess between them, mostly as a result of her actions.

Averting his gaze from the luminescent moon to glance over at Amelia who was tightly gripping the metallic railings and slowly crushing it, Flynn had been the first to speak up again.

"Spare the railings Amelia. They’re innocent"

"Oh~ Ah-… I’m sorry about that…" the brown-haired lady swiftly retracted her hands, an embarrassed expression on her face.

Another small wave of palpably uneasy tension was shared between them once again but in the next few seconds, Amelia summoned enough courage to speak up.

"Flynn… I’m genuinely sor-"

"Don’t apologize" Flynn countered, preventing her from completing her sentence.

"We both know that won’t fix anything that has happened between us over the years" he continued, his tone calm without a single hint of disdain or annoyance in it.

"But I… I really hurt you" Amelia began, tears welling in her eyes as she started realizing more and more by the second and at this very moment, how terribly she had treated the one person among so many others who had constantly been worried about her even after her mother died.

Most people just let her be after a few days, some lasting a few weeks and the highest, maybe a month.

Flynn on the other hand, kept contacting her for days, weeks, months and even for two years straight, all in an effort to know what he had did wrong but mostly, to check up on her well-being.

And yet, she had pushed away the only one friend, and something even more than that to her away at the time, just because she couldn’t come to terms with her mother’s death.

Maybe she had even been jealous of him who still had his own mum and she just felt like he could never understand just how terribly pained and hurt she had been back then and as a result, found a connection with Lucas instead, someone who had experienced a similar pain as hers.

But then, the more she thought about it, the more she kept realizing that Flynn hadn’t done anything wrong at all and in fact, maybe he had been the one trying the most to help her out.

"Hahaha…" Flynn let out a gentle yet melancholic laughter, catching Amelia off-guard.

A pained smile was on his face as he eventually stopped laughing, his hands ruffling his hair and brushing it back as he began to remember memories he’d rather not recall on a normal day.

"It’s true you did. It really sucked you know. Trying to contact you but being unable to reach you even when I saw you at parties, events and banquets" Flynn began.

"I wondered for so long what it was that I had done and even after knowing fully well that you were not willing to speak to me, I at least tried to stay away from you and give you your space, hoping that one day, whenever you were ready, you’d explain why you did the things you did…" he calmly kept speaking, his expression reverting back to its relaxed state.

"I guess I was wrong because after the shenanigans involving my core rank being made known, things got even worse for me…"

"So much that I was so ashamed to face my family and I even attempted suicide…" the youth quietly added with a sad smile, remembering how much his mum had been crying the very first day he had begun to have his past life’s memories restored.

Amelia however, after hearing that Flynn had attempted suicide, had her entire being shaken to the core.

’What?!’ Amelia asked herself, unable to fathom the feeling of someone getting so pushed over the edge to the point that suicide became an option for them, much less Flynn.

Following this, the lady immediately felt a huge surge of profound and gnawing guilt washing over her and a sickening knot began to form in her stomach.

"But before you think you were at fault Amelia; you weren’t" Flynn suddenly commented as he kept talking.

"I don’t blame you for that at all because, at the end of the day, I just wasn’t as mentally strong as I had thought I was"

"All that had pushed me to that point, at the end of the day, was as a result of many terrible things coalescing together. Something that whether I liked it or not, was necessary for my growth"

"Now here I am, stronger than ever…" Flynn stated, an easy smile gracing his features.

"So, at the end of the day, what’s done is done Amelia and neither apologies or guilt will take back the things that has already happened" Flynn added, after which he then asked almost immediately.

"Why completely cut me off from your life as if I never existed though?"

"I was just immature!" Amelia instantly replied, her voice shaky yet slightly elevated in volume as tears began to spill down her eyelids like a running tap.

"You were never at fault Flynn! I just… I guess, at the end of the day, I was just jealous of your mum still being alive while mine-…"

"That’s all I needed to know" Flynn calmly replied, retrieving a pack of tissues from his bracelet and tossing it over to the lady.

Unable to believe that he would so calmly accept the reasoning behind the things she had done so quickly, a deeply confused expression graced Amelia’s face.

Unknown to Amelia though, Flynn who fully understood the pain of losing someone’s parents, knew well enough that everyone behaved differently after losing their closest ones.

In fact, Flynn very much believed that if he and Aiden weren’t brothers, people who had each other’s back no matter what through unbreakable bonds, they may have turned out very differently.

There are people after all, who would become the worst set of people due to the trauma of having to lose a parent or parents, completely cutting off even other family members and even losing some of the best traits about their beings as a form of coping mechanism.

It wasn’t healthy he knew, and neither was it the best way to go around it but then again, everyone grieves differently.

It’s not like he was also just forgiving Amelia for the shit she had pulled over the years but considering Flynn’s mentality, it was more of a nuisance to continuously have something like that popping into his head every now and then.

Grudges were never just really Flynn’s thing and neither was he petty, the only exception being with people who went after his loved ones.

Glancing over once again to Amelia who still had a deeply perplexed expression on her face, Flynn alternated his gaze from the moon he was facing to stare at the garden below him.

Although it was subtle, the youth soon noticed, ever-so-slightly, the shadows of a few youths beneath the balcony.

’What the hell do they think they’re doing?’ Flynn asked himself, unable to know whom was hiding beneath the structure of the balcony’s semicircular terrace.

Although he could activate his mana sense and use it to check whomever was there with the color of their unique mana signatures, he decided not to.

It just felt like a waste of time to him.

With a sigh, the youth turned his gaze upwards back to the night’s sky that was littered with a multitude of twinkling stars and the ethereally beautiful crescent moon.

Amelia however, who despite still being unable to believe that Flynn had just accepted her reasoning so easily, watched as he kept gazing at the moon again, the relaxed expression he had on his features even while he had been discussing something so heavy, still present on it.

’Bryan was right…’ the lady thought to herself in between a sniffle.

’He was so, so right’ she inwardly continued.

’I should’ve just talked to him about it and maybe things wouldn’t have turned out as bad as it did…’

Another wave of silence was shared between them again and this time, it was considerably more comfortable, even if only by a little bit, the occasional sniffling and gentle sobs of Amelia travelling through the air.

Soon enough though, Flynn broke the silence with another question he had been exceedingly curious about for the longest time.

"What did I ever do to Lucas?" the youth curiously asked the brown-haired lady.

Amelia stared at Flynn for a moment, unsure of how to respond.

After a few seconds though, she spoke up after another sniffle.

"Apparently, he thinks you look down on him…"

"He said it happened at the annual royal banquet some years back when he spotted you staring at him as if he wasn’t even a living, breathing human…" Amelia concluded, also particularly unsure of why Lucas really disliked Flynn.

"Hmmm…" Flynn mused aloud.

"Me staring at him as if I look down on him…" he continued with his musings.

"Some years back… ???" he asked himself, his head slightly tilted, as if trying to make head or tails about what had happened.

And then, something immediately clicked in Flynn’s head, causing him to suddenly burst into laughter, a bit of realization dawning upon him.

"Hahaha!" the youth kept laughing as Amelia watched him, unable to understand what had caused his sudden outburst.

"It was a misunderstanding! It was all a freaking misunderstanding!!! Hahaha!" Flynn declared with another round of laughter.

Finally calming down after a few seconds of continuous laughter, Flynn spoke again.

"It must have been the day Ben had ’mistakenly’ spilled drinks on Lucas…" the youth said, clearly emphasizing on the word ’mistakenly’.

"I’d been so disgusted by Brandon Steelblade’s obvious use of Ben to make connections with the Elfire Family that I had a genuinely hateful look on my face as I stared at Ben’s general direction" Flynn continued.

"I guess Lucas had probably thought it was him I was looking at and had misinterpreted it as me looking down on him! It all makes so much sense now! Haha!" Flynn continued, genuinely amused by the misunderstanding that he had no idea had even happened.

Amelia’s eyes soon also widened in utter realization as she added, also seemingly having understood what had happened.

"Back then, that was why you had said you felt sorry for Lucas when he had stormed out of the hall…"

"Yeah…" Flynn replied with a small smile as he ran his hands through his silvery-green hair once again, the cool breeze gently brushing past he and Amelia again.

Just beneath the balcony’s terrace as Flynn had previously noticed and Amelia still unaware of it, were three youths who had heard the entire conversation between both of them.

Bryan who had come to prevent Lucas from interrupting Flynn and Amelia’s long overdue conversation after he had found out about it from Amelia herself, Lucas himself, who was currently having an immense and surging wave of realization washing over him and Ivar, who by chance, had stumbled upon both youths, after coming back from asking for Maya Arendelle’s hand to the award ceremony’s banquet.
