Watching her daughter give one of the heartiest laughter she had given in years, Selena couldn’t help but feel a motherly warmth wash over her entire being.

But even as this was happening, the Duchess of the Roseblade Family was completely alert despite her seemingly relaxed appearance.

"I have to say though…" she soon inwardly spoke to Caroline again after the young lady’s laughter had subsided.

"The academy wasn’t kidding when they said the spies that infiltrated this time were absolutely up to no good"

"For the past fifteen minutes now, it’s been total bloodshed around the Whispering Grove’s forest’s edges…" she added while downing the remaining contents of her glass cup in one shot.

"That bad huh…" Caroline replied to her mum, her relaxed expression turning slightly serious.

"Yeah" Selena answered casually, her hand placing the empty glass cup on the tray of a male waiter who walked by.

"Notwithstanding, I doubt they’d ever come close to the hall’s region" she then continued.

"Why do you say so mother?" the young lady asked, curiosity evident in her internal voice.

"Well, first off, your seniors are doing a downright splendid job repelling most of them…" the duchess began.

"And secondly, I doubt they’d want to face even a single one of us" she calmly added, her expression returned to its usual aloofness as she began to walk away from her daughter, seemingly planning to join up with Queen Hela and Anna who were both having a cheery conversation with Adrian, Ivelia and Beatrice.

"But then, that begs the question; ’What are they actually up to?’ " Caroline and her mother simultaneously asked themselves a question they both had no answers to.

The major reasoning behind having all the big noble families attend this Award Ceremony Banquet, asides informing them of potential threats to their wards, was also to send a very strong message to the infiltrators.

Simply put, what they were trying to tell both Obelisk and The Monolith was this: "Fuck around with so much as a single hair on our children’s head, and there’ll be absolute hell to pay for!"

That being said though, it was still genuinely disturbing that despite their warning to them, the spies were still seemingly hell bent on wanting to attack the event hall.

As Caroline watched her mother gracefully walk away, the silky black-haired lady couldn’t help but really ponder over what could be the real goal of both the Monolith and Obelisk spies.

Glancing over, back to the dancefloor where Aiden was about wrap up his dance with Maya, the lady watched as his expression turned slightly serious for a split moment before it reverted back to its relaxed state.

It was such a subtle thing that anyone else would’ve missed but Caroline along with Ivelia who had been around Flynn since the banquet began had noticed it happen a few times now.

’What an absolute show we’re all putting on…’ Caroline thought to herself with an internal sigh, remembering how Aiden and Flynn had explained to both her and Ivelia about the increasing number of deaths that were happening in the backdrop of this event.

Trying her best to shake off the distasteful things that was ongoing in the background of the banquet’s event, Caroline joined the rest of the fashionably dressed people present in the hall to give a round of applause to the people who were now done with the second waltz.

As this was happening, a father could be seen angrily scolding a youth who bore a striking resemblance to him in a more secluded part of the hall, a small corridor present just before one reached the terrace that overlooked the entire Hall and Events District.

"How hard is it to make friends your age?!" the father exploded in anger at his son.

Brandon Steelblade, instead of being at an all-time alert like every other person was being due to the intrusion from the spies, was instead, more interested in getting his hands on the fortune the Belmonts had acquired due to Ivar and Ivelia’s advanced potions.

"Do you have any idea how humiliated I felt when those two brats completely ignored my presence?!" he continued taking out his anger on his son.

Ben instead, didn’t say anything and just clenched his fists tightly in utter disappointment at his father.

Previously, a few minutes after the banquet had started, the Baron of the Steelblade family had confidently gone to go and introduce himself to both twins.

What he had gotten in return from Ivelia whom he had gone to meet first though, was a cold gaze that held quite a bit of hostility towards him.

The orange-haired lady had then proceeded to walk away from him along with Beatrice and Caroline, making their way to greet other nobles, completely ignoring the Baron.

At first Brandon had been a bit stunned by the unexpected occurrence, especially since he had expected his son to have done as he had commanded him to but after pondering over it for a few seconds, he came to a pretty odd conclusion.

’Maybe he had made friends with the male twin and not the female!’ he had confidently thought to himself.

With an awkward laugh to quickly disperse the odd gazes that was directed towards him, an aftereffect of Ivelia’s rejection, Brandon had made his way over to Ivar.

Expecting a different outcome this time, the Baron was once again brutally rejected and embarrassed by Ivar’s blunt rejection that had pulled no punches back.

"Stay away from me and my sister, just like you did with our father" the orange-haired youth had coldly spat out, immediately leaving afterwards with no care for the damage he had done to the man’s reputation.

Brandon had felt like he was hit with a ton of bricks with the cold words the youth had directed towards him and if not for the fact that he was in a setting where anything crazy he did would ultimately end up only digging his own grave further, he would have definitely slapped Ivar right there and then.

’Who do they think they are to be so disrespectful towards me?!’

’If not for their achievements, would they even be allowed to be in the same room as him who was a true noble and not some half-noble with a bastard’s blood running through their veins!’ he had thought to himself with a despiteful tone despite actually giving another awkward laughter to the nobles around him then.

As Brandon was now currently fuming inwardly, glaring down at his son in annoyance, he shouted at the red-haired youth again, the noise from the banquet slightly noticeable in the background.

"What do you have to say for yourself?!"

"Oh shut it father!!!" Ben exploded back in anger at his father, completely done with all of his antics.

Brandon, unable to believe that his son who had always nodded in response to his every word would retaliate back, had a look of complete shock and utter disbelief on his face as he muttered.

"What did you say?"

"I said SHUT UP!!!" Ben bellowed once more, completely pissed off.

"You think it’s oh so easy to be ’friends’ with people who already have a pretty terrible opinion about me based on the previous things I did! Something that the more I realize it now, was all as a result of initially following your orders!" the youth voiced, his tone burning with fury.

"If I hadn’t been Lucas’s ’henchman’ as you’d previously ordered, I would never have hurt Flynn! If I’d never hurt Flynn, then it’d have been pretty easy to make friends with the Belmonts and simultaneously, it would have made contact with Ivelia and Ivar fairly possible!

"Isn’t that right huh father?!" he rhetorically added in another wave of explosive fury.

Huffing in anger, Ben thought back to how he could never even make an effort to speak to the twins due to the fact that they very stealthily, avoided conversing with him even though they were all in the same dorm.

"You know when you called me here, I’d genuinely thought that you had wanted to ask about my welfare, similar to how other fathers and mothers had been doing with their children today but I guess I was wrong!" he continued with a shout, his voice hurt and his facial expression twisting in anger.

"I don’t think you’ll ever change father, just like all those years ago with the thing that happened with Lucas. I never really thought about it then but recently, a few things happened and I’ve come to realize how utterly selfish you are as a human being!"

-Slap!!!

Landing a brutal slap across his child’s face, Brandon had already done the deed before realizing how much damage that singular action of his had caused.

Slowly turning his head back to face his father who now had a wave of realization washing over him, Ben gave a depreciating smile and uttered.

"Cool. Nice talk Baron Steelblade"

Following those words, the red-haired youth turned around and then began walking back towards the hall in angered steps.

In an attempt to stop his son from leaving, Brandon immediately shouted at his slowly receding back.

"Get back here Ben!"

Ignoring his words Ben continuously kept walking.

"Ben Ingrasia Steelblade! You better return this instant or I’m disowning you!" the Baron threatened, hoping that this would at least get him to stop, even though he would actually never do anything of such when push came to shove.

Ben in return just muttered under his breath as he kept on walking.

"Do your worst you shitty father!"

Brandon was about to shout one more time but almost immediately, both he and Ben heard two sighs coming from the hall’s terrace which was just a few meters away from them.

One sigh was genuinely tired while the other was practically annoyed.

Appearing from the other side of the very short corridor that led to the terrace, Flynn and Lucas, each had a tired and an annoyed expression respectively on their faces.
