(Two days ago…)

-Clang!

"Would you look at that? You’re actually keeping up!" Aiden shamelessly grinned at his younger brother, his finely-crafted greatsword clashing against Flynn’s beautifully-forged katana.

"You shameless OP punk! You’re an S-ranker darn it!" Flynn replied with a deep scowl while struggling to hold his ground, his legs slightly digging into the shimmering golden sand of the beach.

"Excuses, excuses…" Aiden remarked with a pitiful gaze solely aimed at the katana-wielding youth as their clash continued with him applying more pressure upon Flynn’s weapon.

-Shiiinnnggg…

Skillfully redirecting the weight of the weapon, Flynn allowed for Aiden’s greatsword to effortlessly slide across the body of his katana while simultaneously moving in for a decisive slash.

But with an absurdly fast reaction time, Aiden quickly placed his right foot partly to the side and swiftly, spun on his heel sideways, effortlessly evading Flynn’s slashing attack too.

-Whish…

Instantly, they both followed up with their next attacks without a moment wasted.

In the next few seconds following that, a cacophony of metallic weapons clashing rang through the currently empty and quiet portion of the beach they were on.

-Clang! Clang! Clang!

A flurry of insanely fast attacks was exchanged between both youths in a matter of seconds, so fast the average individual would’ve only been able to barely notice a blur of metals clashing.

Eventually, after a few more seconds, Flynn’s weapon was smacked out of his hands as it spun into the air a few times before sticking into the golden sand.

"I win little brother" Aiden smiled while pointing the tip of his greatsword at Flynn’s neck.

"Tch! I’ll definitely win next time!" Flynn retorted while raising his hands up in defeat.

"Keep wishing bro" Aiden chuckled and then returned his greatsword into his spatial ring.

Simultaneously, the youth plopped onto the beach’s sand and sat down to gaze at the gently moving waves of the cerulean sea.

Flynn on the other hand just stood by, similarly gazing at the sea just like his brother was.

It was the day immediately after the auction event and although all their friends were still very much spent from the events of yesterday, they for some odd reason felt completely well-rested.

That was exactly why they were both training so early as the rays of the morning sun slowly appeared from the horizon.

"So, in case that damn railgun is still created, shouldn’t we have a contingency plan or something at the very least?" Aiden glanced over to Flynn who had his arms folded across his chest.

"I’d already been making plans since yesterday night" Flynn casually replied.

"As expected of my genius brother!" Aiden declared with an approving nod to which Flynn just squinted at in annoyance.

"I am a bit concerned that you still had the energy to even think of something after yesterday’s events though" the emerald-eyed youth soon added with a slightly worried gaze.

Waving his hands dismissively at his brother’s concerns, Flynn started speaking.

"I got very curious yesterday about something that’s been bugging me for a while now"

"And what’s that?" Aiden asked

"How has Flenor’s Tower Branch never managed to actually find The Monolith’s main base of operations?" Flynn questioned rhetorically in reply instead.

"Yeah. Even in the novel, it took years on end before they were finally able to find their main base and shut them down for good. That’s a bit odd if you really think about it" Aiden thoughtfully added.

"Exactly. So, with that in mind, I contacted Derek to ask him about it since he’s stayed on Flenor Islands for the longest time" Flynn continued while adding a few more words, this time with a slightly somber expression.

"And also because he has a deep-seated resentment and hatred for The Monolith due to the death of his mother…"

"I figured he might have every possible knowledge we could ever want about them till date" Flynn stated conclusively while Aiden nodded his head with a slightly somber expression too.

After a brief moment of silence to honor the dead, Aiden soon spoke up.

"So, what did he say?" he calmly questioned.

"Well, apparently, their base is designed like a labyrinthine puzzle. Always constantly moving and rearranging at every hour of the day. It never stops…" Flynn calmly replied.

"Well, that definitely explains the oddity now" Aiden frowned, one of his hands now gently massaging his temples.

’It really does make a lot of sense now, that despite how powerful the Tower is, they were unable to handle a constantly peace-destroying and havoc-inducing dark organization until they became too big to easily handle…’ Aiden inwardly commented.

"Anyway, if that darn railgun is till created even after we secured the Eclipsian Prism, then we will probably end up having to locate that base in just a matter of days…" Flynn stated with a gesture of his hands.

"Yeah. Considering it would’ve been such a large scale construct, I’m pretty sure their main base would’ve been the best place for them to safely build it" Aiden nodded in response.

-Sigh…

"That’s an insanely tall task even by my standards…" Flynn soon added with a small sigh.

’It’s way too much time that we can never afford to give if the railgun is eventually created…’ he thought to himself.

"So, we are basically at an impasse right now, aren’t we?" Aiden soon also commented after a short while with a deep frown.

"Yep" Flynn calmly replied.

Following that, they both couldn’t help but just allow another wave of silence to take over, the only sounds present been the sound of the cascading waves of the cerulean sea gently crashing against the shore of the beach.

However, as the silence went on for about a few more seconds, Aiden and Flynn soon felt a pretty familiar energy exuding from their spatial ring and bracelet.

Glancing over at each other, both brothers instantly retrieved the small notebook Xavier had handed over to them a few months back.

The moment the book was in their hands, both books as if possessing a will of its own, flipped open to an empty page as words slowly began to form on it.

⸢ Not completely an impasse just yet… ⸥

⸢ Austin Wells. Search up on him ⸥

⸢ He should have a way for you to get in if it does come down to it… ⸥

"Well I’ll be damned…" Aiden muttered to himself as he watched the words stop right there on his own notebook.

When he glanced over to his brother though, he was not surprised to see another deep scowl on it.

"He’s a freaking stalker…" he heard the youth mumble in a slightly distasteful manner.

But almost immediately, he watched as Flynn retrieved a pen from his spatial bracelet and quickly scribbled it down on the pages while asking a question of his own.

‹ So the railgun will still be created? ›

For a moment, nothing happened when Flynn wrote the question but after a short few seconds that felt far longer than it should’ve felt, a reply soon came in on both of their books.

Flynn and Aiden immediately frowned in response to that answer but something else soon appeared on the note.

⸢ Sigrun sends her greetings though! ⸥

’This darn proprietor!’ Aiden and Flynn couldn’t help but inwardly cuss in further annoyance this time.

⸢ You should thank her the next time you meet. ⸥

⸢ The previous information provided to you was also a courtesy of hers. ⸥

After a few seconds of calming down while reading the other new texts, Flynn soon scribbled another question down.

He had hoped that with this particular question, Xavier, and Sigrun, who currently seemed to be with him, would hopefully give them something more to work with.

‹ Who created the railgun? ›

This particular question was something that would further speed up the search for the perpetrator so both youths were really hoping that any lead, no matter how little it was, would be provided to them.

About a minute passed by this time and the youths were already thinking that maybe Xavier was gone again abruptly, just like he usually would when suddenly making contact with them like this.

As they were about to return the notebooks back though, an answer suddenly appeared on it again.

What both of them hadn’t been expecting however, was how direct Xavier was with them this time.

⸢ You already know one of them considering you ran into him at the auction house… ⸥

⸢ The second, and also the biggest contributor to building it, goes by the name Edgar Wright. ⸥

Immediately those last sentences were written, the books immediately flipped close by itself once again, signifying that the connection between it and Xavier was gone.

Not minding the weird occurrence, both brothers let out a deep breath of air for a short moment.

’Guess I’ll buy a new smartwatch later today then. Just in case things really do go south…’ Flynn had thought to himself.

"We should ask Ivar if he can put a sensor-detecting function into two of the experimental nano-bands by the end of today" Aiden said to his brother as they both began to head back to the hotel.

’If we’re going to be infiltrating their main base, we need to be wary of multiple traps…’ the youth thought to himself.

"Hopefully he can…" he added aloud, knowing fully well that Ivar might still be very tired from yesterday’s events.

Seemingly having made up their minds, both brothers had also immediately begun to dig up information on Austin Wells.

Surprisingly, it wasn’t hard to find a lot about the guy at all due to the fact that he was part of Flenor’s Central Government as a Prime Minister.

In fact, it almost felt like the man in question had a very clean image.

Too clean of an image in fact…

But, considering Xavier and Sigrun had told them to dig up information about him, the youths soon decided to pull up their trusty dark web since the normal web wasn’t cutting it.

And even then, nothing still came up even after more than two hours of them searching and digging for dirt or tarnishing information about the man.

But still, they persisted in their efforts for more than an hour and soon enough, they found a supposedly fake rumor about Austin Wells.

The supposed fake rumor, stated that the Prime Minister actually had close ties to The Monolith.

A lot of dark web users on the dark site’s web forum, even termed it as people just wanting to tarnish Well’s good name...

And that was really saying something about the kind of person Austin Wells was if even the denizens of the dark web were also in the belief that he was an innocent soul.

However, for Aiden and Flynn, whom were armed with the knowledge provided to them by their Head Dean and A Valkyrie, instantly realized what both had meant.

However, even then, knowing all this information had previously only served as a way for them to come up with a rough plan of sorts if the railgun really was created.

It wasn’t something they were really hoping would happen after all…

But now, two days later after all that, around forty minutes after the railgun had eventually descended, Aiden and Flynn were both standing atop the magnificently opulent building of Sphinx’s Casino.
