The uninhabited sky island that the annihilative rays of the railgun disintegrated into oblivion was just the beginning.

In no more than five minutes just after that, the destructive rays, without fail, landed on another portion of Flenor Island’s sprawling archipelago.

Everything it touched was obliterated to oblivion in similarly destructive and disintegrative fashion without warning.

Monumental buildings, popular tourist spots, the Allied Islands Central Government Headquarters, among many others were reduced to instant subatomic dusts.

And of course, the casualties could not be prevented by any means as many innocent people, unprepared to meet their maker today, inevitably did, their numbers, fortunately or unfortunately, still in the few thousands.

Even the bodies of these innocent souls could not be recovered as they too, just like the surroundings they were obliterated with, left not even a single speck of their previous existence behind.

Flenor’s Tower Branch was instantly thrust into a state of total disarray, fear and severe panic, and so were the inhabitants of Flenor Islands.

After performing rigorous readings around the entire upper atmosphere surrounding Flenor Islands with machines of their own for over a few agonizing minutes, they were still unable to locate the source of the deadly rays even as it constantly attacked and destroyed multiple places.

This immediately made them realize how much of a shitty situation they were actually in and instantly, they quickly took the next best step to redeem themselves of their terrible, terrible situation.

Promptly, they began to request for help from other nations of the world, most especially Arcadia whom they had a fantastic relationship with, both from their Tower Branches and individual guilds.

But as if to emphasize their impending doom, the destructive rays which they had thought was previously targeting random places, soon landed its deadly kiss on the Skyports and Spatial Travel Establishments which housed the teleportation portals people used for instant travel.

This, was definitely done as a way to trap them in the Nation of Isles, ensuring that there was going to be no escape for even a single person.

The rankers of The Tower, seemingly realizing this, further had themselves pushed into a spiraling state of hopelessness and despair.

However, in their state of despair and hopelessness, a singular anonymous text was sent to them, giving them a pretty detailed explanation of the places the rays were most likely to hit next.

At first, despite their exceedingly precarious situation, The Tower had originally wanted to dismiss the message due to how unreliable it was but in the next few minutes after that, they were following the instructions on the text to the letter.

The anonymous text message was completely right and the moment they noticed it after two more places it had told them of were disastrously struck, The Tower quickly jumped into action.

Simultaneously contacting the press, a brief but detailed emergency guide following what the text had explained was made known to the people of Flenor who were in an uncontrollable state of pandemonium.

And rightly so, these people had every reason to be in such a state because when a destructively random ray of death could send you to oblivion in a matter of seconds, even rationality goes out the window.

But the emergency guide that was revealed, instantly gave them a bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, the hopeless situation they were in could at least be salvaged to a certain extent.

Watching the hastily recorded video of a popular news anchor quickly giving out an explanation as to how to reach the specific places the Tower had deemed safe, the panicked individuals present at Flenor Islands followed it to the letter.

The video mostly detailed how to reach tightly-secured and protective bunkers created by the Tower in case of emergency situations like these, along with the places that one was required to avoid when navigating through the streets.

As some cadets in the AquaMaris were watching the video of the news anchor giving out information, a lot of worry on their features, there was a certain comfort that came with watching as their instructors moved around without hesitation, setting up multitudes of barriers here and there.

After ensuring that none of their cadets were outside, they had promptly began making the multiple barriers in case the destructive ray decided they were its next target.

At this point, the barriers enveloping the entire beach-front resort numbered in the thirties.

Adding to that were two particular powerful barriers that stood out, one with multiple golden rune engravings all over it and another with a dark purple shade to it that pulsed with mana, courtesy of Darius and Cordelia.

As much as the instructors wanted to get their cadets out of this unpredictably dangerous scenario they were all thrust into, it was unfortunately, something they couldn’t do.

Unfortunately for all of them, being able to mass teleport wasn’t a specialty of theirs at all and even though two of them could manage it, specifically Cordelia and Darius once again, the distance between Flenor Islands and Arcadia was far too large to cover in one fell swoop.

But even then, the faces of the instructors remained unfazed and their emotions stayed normal and were kept in check, further calming the cadets down.

In reality though, most of them were just as terrified of the unpredictably disastrous ray but they had to maintain a strong persona in front of their cadets no matter the scenario they were in.

That was an unshakeable duty they had all accepted from the moment they had decided to become instructors and had taken multiple cadets under their wings.

As the instructors went about ensuring their cadets were in a stable state of mind, eight youths soon ran through the corridors, a wave of severe distress and panic painting all of their faces.

Upon finally finding Darius and Cordelia, the instructors they had come to warm up to the most, they instantly showed both a note left behind by Aiden and Flynn.

Reading the note along with Cordelia who was just beside him, Darius’s usually stoic expression, almost cracked for a second while Cordelia inwardly sucked a frightened breath in.

The contents of the notes read;

⸢ Heading out to stop the Rays Of Doom. We promise we’ll inform you of our whereabouts soon enough. Stay safe! ⸥

(A few minutes after the The Railgun’s calamity had started…)

Flynn after sending a long and detailed text message to The Tower regarding the best ways to minimize casualties, placed the new smartwatch into his spatial bracelet.

Simultaneously too, the youth along with his older brother swiftly began to send a timed message to their partners first which was then followed by other messages to the rest of their friends.

Immediately after this was done, the youths then placed the academy’s smartwatch issued to them into their spatial bracelet and ring too respectively.

There was a very good reason… or rather, somewhat reckless reason they were doing what they did.

That aside though, considering the two brother were the ones who sent the anonymous text while using all of their knowledge of the novel’s lore, to a certain extent they were able to make exceedingly accurate guesses about the places the deadly ray was targeting.

Even if the events that happened were pushed forward by a bit, Flynn and Aiden had come to realize once again, just like the way things currently were, that a few things would still stay similar.

Despite their best efforts to stop the creation of the railgun, it had still happened somehow, one way or the other.

But now that it had actually happened, they immediately realized that they had no time to be dilly-dallying around.

Although still putting it in mind that they couldn’t take on the members of The Monolith on their own, there were a few things they still needed to do alone.

After that was ensured, they would then forcefully drag everyone into their battle against the Monolith.

So, putting that in mind, they had ultimately decided to find the main base of operation of The Monolith’s dark organization.

The railgun was definitely also being operated by someone.

That was a solid truth they both knew and understood.

And it was also obvious, that said person, wasn’t just blindly targeting various places.

This person, whoever it was, was targeting places where multiple people usually were.

All that was left, was to find said person and take them out while simultaneously destroying the railgun.

It was a bit unfortunate that the novel never gave proper credit to whom the destructive weapon was created by and instead just name-dropped The Monolith alone.

But at the very least, Flynn and Aiden were glad that they previously made a backup plan in case things did eventually come down to this.

’Finding said person though, is a task far easier said than done… or well, it should’ve been’ Aiden thought to himself as he glanced over to his brother who was quickly jotting down a few words on a singular note.

"Come on Flynn. Let’s go" Aiden called out to his brother.

"Right behind you" the youth responded with a resolved expression.

Although they were about to leave the beach-front resort where a lot of their loved ones were, they also knew that it wasn’t even remotely close to the places that was being targeted by the deadly rays.

And even if it did get targeted this time, considering the fact that most of their instructors were in the high-tier S-rank and low to mid-tier SS-rank, they were confident that they’d be able to at least repel the rays at least twice or thrice.

But other places didn’t have this protection and a lot more innocent people were inevitably going to die if they didn’t do anything to halt the ray’s destruction.

Even more than that, was another very important reason they were doing it, one that would quite possibly ensure the prevention of a much further bloodbath down the line.

So, keeping this in mind, and without any other words being exchanged, both brothers leaped out of the window of Aiden’s room and took to the skies, a single note left behind for when their friends found out about their departure.
