Chapter 220: I’m going to discover your weak point, Helia

No one had explained the reason why an angel had taken on a physical form and was in the world of mortals anyway... Yet that was exactly the situation Kaiser was facing.

Helia was the physical vessel of Jophiel; obviously she could not use her full power, and that was why her body was so fragile, but it did not diminish her danger in any way.

Her family believed she was simply an extraordinary genius, unaware that the Seraph they venerated was precisely the apathetic goth girl whom Kaiser still did not know how to handle.

....

The group advanced in formation through the Tenebris desert.

No one spoke much while their gazes constantly swept the sand dunes.

Helia walked at the front with her cane, Evelyn advanced to her right, eyes narrowed against the harsh light, and Allister brought up the rear. The other members of the Stavenger faction formed two parallel lines, alert to the slightest unusual sound.

And Kaiser? He was somewhere nearby...

After about ten minutes of cautious walking, they arrived near a wide canyon. The red rock walls rose on either side, tall and sheer. The sun passed between the ridges and drew bands of bright light on the sandy ground. The air there was a little cooler, sheltered from the direct winds.

Helia raised her hand. Everyone stopped.

"We set up camp here," she said in a clear voice. "The canyon offers good protection against storms. Tents in the center, sentries on the heights. Move quickly, I don’t have time to waste."

The students got to work without delay. Some unrolled the light canvas, others drove stakes into the hardened sand. Bags opened, ropes tightened. The camp took shape rapidly.

Kaiser, who had stayed back since entering the rift, observed the scene for a few moments. Then, without a word, he quietly moved away from the group. He walked toward a rocky outcrop set apart, his steps silent on the sand. He climbed onto a promontory to get a wider view of the surroundings.

Helia, who had been keeping an eye on him from the start, immediately noticed his departure.

She adjusted her dark glasses and headed toward him with determined steps.

Kaiser stood on the rock, gazing at the expanse of desert. The sun shone high in a cloudless sky.

"I thought I told you not to do anything without my orders," Helia said in a cold voice. She stopped below, her hard gaze fixed on him.

Kaiser slowly turned his head toward her. He stared at her for a moment, then jumped onto a higher rock to position himself above her.

Helia frowned.

"Listen, let’s make one thing clear between us. I’m here to indulge a whim of my dear Kleopatra. Don’t think you can give me orders." he said, half-turning toward her.

The words "my dear" echoed in her. Helia felt anger rise, mixed with a hint of unease. She bit the inside of her lip.

She was surprised by her own reaction.

"I wonder why Olivia trusts you so much," she said sharply. "I, on the other hand, have absolutely no trust in you."

"I don’t care what you think," Kaiser retorted dryly. He turned fully to face her. "Anyway, I don’t need your approval. Kleopatra and I get along very, very... well."

"Their relationship is much more intimate than I thought." She murmured to herself.

"Well..." Kaiser continued. "I think I’ve been clear."

He walked past her without another glance and descended the rocks with ease, leaving her alone.

Helia remained motionless for a moment. "Tsss..." she clicked between her teeth.

Below, the Stavenger faction members setting up the tents cast curious glances toward Kaiser when he returned. Evelyn and Allister turned their heads in his direction, then toward the promontory he had come from. A few minutes later, Helia came down as well. Her face was calm, showing no visible emotion.

"What happened?" Evelyn asked while sheathing her blade.

"Nothing," Helia replied. "We were just discussing the next steps."

"I see," Evelyn said.

"By the way, we’ll set out again in a moment," Helia added. "Go tell them we start exploring the area in a few minutes."

Evelyn nodded and went to relay the order.

Kaiser, who was walking away, had not let those reactions go for trivial reasons; perhaps Helia considered Olivia a friend.

’She’s wary of me because of my playboy rumors? Nah... There’s something fishy here. I’m going to discover your weak point, Helia.’

...

Soon after, the camp was secured. The group reformed and set off. They advanced deeper into the canyon, then exited it to skirt a series of dunes. Kaiser had moved away from the main group. He walked alone, about twenty meters to the right flank, scanning the surroundings without mingling with the others.

After a good minute of silent walking, Allister suddenly raised his fist. Everyone stopped dead. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

A low rumble rose from the ground. The sand trembled. Then, in ten different places, explosions of sand erupted.

"Just as I suspected!"

Ten Sand Worms burst out, their segmented and armored bodies shooting from the ground.

*Krieeeeehhhh*

The sound coming from their circular maws, bristling with teeth, was so horrific it could make some tremble with fear.

The Stavenger faction members got into position. But

Kaiser was already charging toward the nearest Worm.

With a precise leap, he jumped onto its back, drove his sword into a joint between two plates and sliced clean through. The monster collapsed in a jet of greenish blood.

Without stopping, he spun, leapt onto a second Worm charging the group’s flank. His footwork was fast. He dodged a bite, rolled to the side, then delivered a sword strike that released a crescent of air. The Worm’s head or rather its tooth-filled orifice, rolled in the sand.

The others watched, frozen for a moment. The precision of his movements, the speed of his sword, the way he chained attacks without hesitation: everything left them speechless. Even Allister raised an eyebrow. As the eleventh in the academy rankings, he was certainly no slouch and could follow his movements.

’He’s improved a lot since last time...’ he thought, noting that Kaiser’s difference in power came purely from Aura Farming.

The rest of the group eliminated the other five worms while Allister took care of three in just a few minutes.

Over the following hours, they encountered several large, stocky Sand Trolls with cracked skin like dry earth. The group dispatched them methodically.

Four hours passed like that, between marching and intense fighting.

Finally, Helia raised her hand.

"We return to camp," she ordered.

For now, Helia wanted to clear the area near where she was camping so she could maximize her attention toward Adrian and Godwin once she located them.
