The sun was hanging right above their heads. However, the sky was gray because of the winter. Breathing the fog out of his body, most people couldn’t believe what they saw that day.

It was horror in daylight. No ghost could be more scary than a horde of malformed deer running at you.

"Run, take the people, and run!"

Reeva turned to scream at the people. They snapped out of shock and started running. There weren’t many people in the village in the first place, so they moved quickly.

However, most people weren’t ready to abandon their homes. They’d lived here since they were born and didn’t want to move—until they saw the group of deer and ran.

The knight got on horseback and galloped out, helping others on the way. One horse could carry two people. They had plenty left since some knights had already died.

"Get on, your holiness!"

Max shouted, his horse galloping over to Reeva. Around him, other knights were already on their horses, carrying some of the village people.

Reeva hopped onto the horse, and they made their escape. The village was built on flat ground, but it was surrounded by mountains. To the east and the west, mountains covered their path, making a horse useless there.

The only way forward seemed to be north, as the horde of deer came from the mountains and attacked from the south.

While riding, Reeva couldn’t help but think they were being led into a trap. The path forward was too convenient as they weaved through the tree line.

In the back, Reeva could see the deer had thinned out their numbers. The village was built in an opening where wood had already been cut, so the deer had plenty of space to spread out. But the jungle heavily limited their movement, making the force look a lot less menacing than before.

However, that didn’t mean they could fight. Reeva’s knights still numbered around 15 individuals, while there were hundreds, if not thousands, of deer chasing them.

"My lord, where should we go!?"

Max asked Reeva while galloping his horse. The animals moved as fast as they could; even they knew that getting caught would be disastrous.

"Is there a map!?"

"Here!"

One of the knights approached them and handed over a map. The high speed of the horse made it hard to retrieve the item, but he grabbed it from the man.

The map he got was a bit red from the blood of the knight that carried it. However, the main content was undamaged.

Currently, they were in northern Duranberg, at the border between it and Guragua. Reeva’s face darken, the nearest town was not close enough for them to reach in time.

So he needed somewhere close by they could defend. Looking at the map, Reeva could see a building that was not originally on the map. It was a scribbling by the owner, a small symbol that wasn’t as elegant as the rest of the map.

"What is this thing you marked!?"

Reeva screamed over. The knight approached him again, and the injured person behind his back groaned a bit from the sudden motion.

"That’s an old military base, sir! I used to work with an old commander, and he marked it for me. It was used to defend against the northern land. But it hasn’t been used for over 80 years."

"Do you think we could use this?"

"It’s a little bit old, but we could reach there; if there’s a moat, we could use it."

Max gave his insight. Castles built for defense usually had a moat, but some rare ones don’t have such things, either because they cost too much, used too much time, or weren’t needed.

Judging by its use, Reeva guessed that it might have one.

"Do you know if it has a moat?"

"I don’t know, sir. I only heard about this place from my old commander."

Reeva clicked his tongue and looked at the people riding along with him. Most of their injuries hadn’t healed, and now they were on horseback, making their wounds worse.

"Turn northeast! We’ll head to this castle!"

After a bit of thinking, Reeva declared his command. The knights shifted their direction. The villagers were a bit slow, but they still followed right behind.

Reeva’s reason was simple. Even though they could get trapped inside, they’d at least extend their lives, even just a bit longer.

Because looking at the map, the nearest castle other than this one was likely deeper in the Guragua territory. They’d need at least a day to reach it.

By that point, most of the people here would have died, or their horses would be exhausted. And by that point, they would all be dead.

The forest flew past as noon turned to night. They had been at it for hours now, but with nothing in sight, doubt started creeping into Reeva’s mind.

He’d have led all these people to die if they didn’t find this goddamn castle.

But finally, they found something.

"Your holiness, a path!"

It was hard to see in the dark forest, but the tree line was a bit separated. They could recognize it as a road that was used in the past.

"Follow it!"

Reeva clung to anything that could lead to survival. The horses had been running at top speed for a while now. Some of them were badly hurt. It wouldn’t hold for any longer.

Then they found a clearing. One that looked promising.

The tree line opened up before them, and the first of them exclaimed!

"The castle!"

They had come to the right place. Reeva breathed a sigh of relief inside. At least he did not doom their whole squad by leading them here.

"The bridge—is it down!?"

The castle came closer and closer; the person in front could finally see.

"The bridge is down!"

"Cross it!"

Right behind them, a group of deer rushed out of the forest into the clearing. Their numbers had been significantly thinned out as Reeva had already removed the mystic force from Quin, but it was still quite high.

The group of horse rushed across the bridge. Getting to safety was the number one priority.

Even without Reeva’s command, they’d already found the mechanism to roll up the bridge, ready to pull it once everyone crossed.

However, one of the horses fell behind.
