Extra's Re-awakening: System Errors Made Me Too OP-Chapter 45: The Beast Within
"Are they still alive!?" A voice shouted from afar as several Soul-Hunters rushed toward the gate. Moments ago, the mystical energy that shimmered around it had vanished, and an anonymous tip had alerted the Soul-Hunters Association about three injured members who had entered the gate.
"My God, what the hell happened to them?" One of the Soul-Hunters asked. The damage done to them was unimaginable,
"What’s the situation?" A familiar voice inquired.
"Captain Alaric! The three Soul-Hunters identified, Elene Castelle, Xander Reymond and the captain of the 11th Soul-Squad — Hiro Kai, all seem to be unconscious, and they are all in a critical condition. Support Soul-Hunter’s have already begun attending to them sir!" The hunter replied.
"Hiro?" Alaric glanced over his shoulder, watching as the hunters carried the injured Soul-Hunters on stretchers and loaded them into the ambulance parked at the corner.
"He might been a fool, but Hiro is still a captain of the 14 Soul-Squads. What on earth could have beaten him so badly?" Before this, Alaric had always found it insulting that the head commander treated him like a mere cleanup crew whenever a rare gate appeared. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
But now, the situation had gotten too serious to care about that.
..
"Where..am I.." Within his subconscious, a weary Xander muttered to himself. His body drifted aimlessly in a pitch-black emptiness, a void where no light, sound, or sensation existed.
To him, it felt close to infinity.
In this place, the concept of distance held no meaning, there was no beginning, no end, only endless darkness. That was the extent of the power the Wolf of Flames possessed. Unbeknownst to him, the void he floated within was not just emptiness, but the very essence of the beast that dwelled inside him.
"How long will you remain unconscious human? The weakness of your race continues to marvel me. Is this the extent of your strength? How disappointing." The beast within the shadows spoke, its voice echoing with raw hostility as it expressed the deep displeasure it harbored toward Xander.
"Huh.." Confused, Xander tilted his head to the left, and once again, he was met with the same pair of eyes he had seen before. The only difference this time was their color, glowing crimson red, radiating a menacing light that pierced through the darkness.
"Who...are you?" He asked weakly, his voice trembling as it echoed through the endless void.
The beast remained silent, its crimson eyes burning with restrained fury. Among the eight Essen-Beasts, it was known to have the greatest pride, making it the most difficult to deal with.
"Why did you help me?" Noticing the beast’s refusal to respond, Xander asked again.
"Because, if you die I die as well. It is the price I have to pay, for using the Primordial seal." At long last, it answered.
"Primordial..seal? I don’t understand, what are you?" Xander questioned.
The wolf stayed silent for a few seconds, its glowing eyes fixed on Xander before finally responding in a deep, rumbling voice. "Our fates are now intertwined. Try not to die..till we meet again, Xander Reymond." With its final words, the wolf vanished into the darkness, leaving the young Soul-Hunter utterly confused and unsettled.
The very next moment, Xander gasped for air, his eyes snapping open to reality. He shot upright from the bed he had been lying on and shouted the word. "Wait!"
His senses quickly returned as his eyes fell on the wires attached to his body. Rubbing his eyes gently with both hands, Xander blinked a few times, and when his vision cleared, he realized he was lying in a medical room.
"What?"
He stared at his palm, amazed. Despite being beaten and severely injured by the Primordial demon lieutenant, he felt completely fine, brand new, in fact. It was the first time since their transmigration that he had truly felt this good; every trace of fatigue and injury had vanished.
"Come to think of it, I was severely injured in that fight so how? I even feel stronger than before, is that possible?" A feeling of doubt lingered over him as he sat up, his mind recalling the monster within him, the one that had saved him during the encounter with the Primordial demon within the Soul-King’s domain.
"I have...a Primordial Essen-beast?" Instantly, he recalled the words of the shadow that spoke to him. "Our fates are now intertwined.
It was a lot to process. "Primordial seal huh, when did he ever make such a seal with me?" It was a question that needed urgent clarification.
"Was it before I got transmigrated?" He pondered, realizing it was the only plausible explanation. Theoretically, he was correct. The moment the Xander of this world died, the Primordial Flame Essen-Beast had used the primordial seal to take control of his weakened body. What he hadn’t expected was that another powerful soul would also inhabit it.
"Is that why my flames are blue? Because of that? No..." He immediately realized he was focused on the wrong thing here.
"If the goal of these demons is to capture the Primordial Essen-Beasts, that makes me a target, and one of the key factors to the demon’s plans. Putting everyone around me at a risk." Realizing this, he sat in dismay, the weight of the revelation pressing heavily on him..
He had witnessed firsthand the power of a Primordial Demon Lieutenant, an entity so strong that even an Earth Essen-Beast could not defeat it alone.
"Leaving to protect others isn’t an option, no matter where I go they will hunt me down till they capture the beast within me." He stood up, determination burning in him, and clenched his fingers tightly into a fist.
"My only option is to get stronger, thanks to this power, I feel like I’ve gotten stronger and I can feel it." He smirked, tilting his head back to glance up at the ceiling.
He remembered the combat round of the Soul-Hunter’s examination and the power Rai had displayed. To be honest, he felt intimidated, threatened even. Ren was already close to Rai, and with the way he was growing now, what would stop Ren from leaving him the same way he had left Rai?
It had become even worse when Rai managed to outrun the Primordial Demon’s overrule. But now...
"With this power... I won’t lose to you, Rai Voltia..."
