Chapter 36: Humiliation (Part 2)

"You can begin your attack at any time."

Alistair chuckled in amusement as he cast a simple glance at Rey. His eyes narrowed with pure sinister intent, and the latter sensed it almost instantly.

’I still have no idea how strong he is, but since Augustus told me to give it my all...’

Rey didn’t hesitate to take action.

He also had his Artifact with him, and since he had been resting before now, he was in top condition.

If there was such a thing as the ’best’ version of him, or Rey at his ’peak’ it was undoubtedly the one that currently stood on the battlefield.

WHOOSH!!!

The world blurred as Rey charged towards Alistair, his mind formulating all kinds of strategies in an instant.

The biggest problem he faced was the sets of abilities in his possession.

Inverse Technique and Reversal Technique.

Both of them made him rather reactive to the moves of his enemies. Thus, he needed to have some clue on what they were capable of, or at the very least, see them make a move.

’This guy has more Ether than me, so I should throw out Sequences 8 and 7 of the Inverse Technique on him. I also can’t affect him with other Techniques. I should also be careful when he makes his moves, since it will be difficult to influence them due to their Ether density and—’

"You think too much."

Alistair suddenly appeared in front of Rey, almost like he had just vanished from his earlier position.

But it wasn’t teleportation.

It was just speed.

Pure speed!

"Slow, too..."

Alistair raised his feet and casually thrust it towards the stunned Rey.

The movement was far too fast for him to react to.

BAM!

Alistait’s feet shattered the ground. The impact caused several cracks to spiderweb all over the surroundings of the small crater that he made.

But, Rey was nowhere to be found there.

In a miraculous twist, he had managed to save himself by using Flipped Axis at the last minute.

This allowed him to change his trajectory in an instant.

As a result, he just barely survived.

"Haa... haaa!"

Beads of sweat formed on Rey’s face as he quickly realized an ugly truth.

’I almost died just now!’

He cast a shocked look at the opponent, Alistair Cheshire, and found the man grinning menacingly at him.

His malevolence was no longer hidden at this point.

It had become crystal clear to him.

’He wishes to end my life!’

"I chose my feet because I don’t want to touch a filthy thing like you, but it seems that lapse in timing gave you the window to escape..." The young man murmured, his voice indifferent towards the sheer strength he had just displayed.

This wasn’t the result of a technique.

It was his own physical ability—the result of an enhanced anatomy that had long surpassed the normal limits.

Someone like Rey stood no chance.

"It can’t be helped..." Alistair continued with a subtle laugh. "I’m just not used to fighting with my feet. But, oh well, I won’t miss next time."

Once again, Alistair vanished and appeared right on top of Rey.

His shadow overshadowed the stunned slave, and as his feet descended with terrifying speed, there seemed to be no escape.

However—

Rey miraculously escaped once again, finding himself a considerable distance away from the devastation that spread all around Alistair.

Taking his place was a piece of debris was became eviscerated the moment Alistair’s kick dropped.

’Internal Technique #9 and #8: Minor Flipped Axis!’ Rey’s expression didn’t show any relief despite a slight joy in his heart.

He was glad that he immediately activated the combined technique before Alistair made his next move. Had he been just a second slower, it wouldn’t have succeeded and he would be as good as dead.

’He’s too fast. He also wastes no movement and every blow is lethal...’

Rey had never met any opponent like this since he was reincarnated into this world.

Even Amara!

Yes, she was absurdly strong, but her attacks were made with the intent of simulating near-death experiences. They weren’t actually done to kill him.

She gave him plenty of time to react and grow from these experiences.

Her intent was clear.

But this one was different.

He didn’t have any intention of teaching Rey anything, nor was he like the others who had tried to kill him in the past.

This made him even more terrifying than Amara—and he hadn’t even used any Technique yet.

"Tch. Dodged again, huh? Why delay the inevitable? Just let me hit you..."

"Afraid I can’t do that. My Master told me to give it my all, and I can’t disobey him." Rey calmly responded, though his mind was whirring with all kinds of possible solutions to his grave predicament.

"Oho? What a loyal slave. If only he knew what kind of piece of shit Master he serves."

Rey glanced at Augustus and noticed the young man wasn’t showing any reaction despite the insult he just received.

In that instant, it all became clear to Rey.

He completely grasped the kind of relationship Augustus had with Alistair, as well as their most recent arrangement.

’This Alistair wants to get rid of me, and Augustus is going to let him do so without any resistance...’ Rey sighed.

He always knew he couldn’t fully rely on his Master, but this just showed him just how unsafe it was to trust Augustus.

Even though he has become an indispensable tool to the Young Master, the latter wouldn’t hesitate to throw him under the bus if a higher power demanded it.

’In the end, I can only rely on myself!’

"Whwre are you looking at? Do you have the luxury of being so distracted?" Alistair appeared right behind Rey, his smug expression growing more intense.

Then, he sent a kick charging at Rey.

This time, it connected.

"Guh!"

Although Rey poured all his Ether into Reversal Technique #9: Minor Reversal to protect his body from the damage and pain, he still felt an excruciating amount of it.

His body flew forward, crashing on the ground in an undignified fashion.

However, Rey quickly got his bearings and managed to find his balance before using Minor Flip to stabilize his trajectory and stand instead of fall.

He heaved a sigh of relief at his survival, but this only served to tick Alistair more.

"Tch! You just won’t die, huh?" The Young Lord growled as he stepped forward.

He was growing angry.

It was clear that he didn’t want to bother using a Technique on Rey. He didn’t even wish to use his hands. That was how much he considered Rey to be inferior.

Yet... this very Rey had survived three attacks from him already.

Alistair was beginning to look like a fool, and he hated it!

’I’ll kill him this time for sure!’

Rey began coughing, even leaking out blood as he collapsed on his knees. It seemed he had sustained far more injuries than he expected.

He also couldn’t be pretending, since his Master had commanded him to give the battle his all.

Thus, he wouldn’t be on his knees unless he couldn’t help it.

"Hehe..." Upon seeing this, Alistair reduced his killing intent and instead chuckled aloud.

"Hit your limit already?"

He casually approached Rey until he stood right in front of the weakened slave, one leg raised so he could squash him like the ant that he was.

"Die... filthy slave."
