Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Never content, lacking ambition.

The examination results showed a mild concussion, and for safety reasons, she needed to be observed in the hospital for a while. Shen Zhiyi was admitted to a private room, where Wang Feifei showed a lot of concern. Only after Shen Zhiyi assured her repeatedly that she was fine did Wang Feifei leave her be.

The door was pushed open; it was Pei Yu, who had brought food over. It was obviously delivered from Huating, all dishes Shen Zhiyi liked.

But at the moment she not only felt dizzy but also a bit nauseous and had no appetite, so she only drank some soup before she couldn’t bring herself to touch the chopsticks any further.

She had been missing Huating’s meals just a short while ago.

Seeing her eat so little, Pei Yu frowned slightly, “You didn’t eat anything last night either, eat a bit more.”

She was already thin enough, and now as an injured person, it was worrying to see her not eating.

Shen Zhiyi glanced at him in surprise and sipped her soup, “How do you know I didn’t eat last night?”

Working with Director Meng was like this, often shooting dozens of takes for as perfect a scene as possible, which also caused meal times to be delayed. It was normal to eat irregularly on the set.

“Your assistant told me,” Pei Yu coaxed her, “Is there anything else you’d like to eat?”

“I don’t want to eat anything.”

Wondering where Xiaodong had gone off to, Shen Zhiyi scooped up a spoonful of sticky rice and forced it down. “Have you eaten?”

“I’ll eat in a bit.”

As she lifted her hand, her loose sleeve fell, revealing her injured wrist. Not only was there a scrape, but there was also a bruise—after all, she had fallen down a slope. Bumps and scrapes were the least of it; she was fortunate not to have broken anything.

Pei Yu saw she was eating with difficulty and sometimes frowned—it was obvious she really had no appetite. Thinking she still felt uncomfortable, he didn’t have the heart to pressure her anymore, “If you really can’t eat, then let it be.”

He thought to wait until she had an appetite again to try and feed her something.

Without a word, Shen Zhiyi scooped another spoonful of soup, and for some reason, extended the spoon toward his lips, “Wasting food isn’t good.”

Pei Yu looked at her in surprise. Feeling his gaze, Shen Zhiyi also realized just how inappropriate this action was. Not only did the two have no kind of relationship now, but she had also never done such a thing even when they were together.

She must have really hit her head hard. Annoyed, she frowned and moved to take the spoon back.

Fortunately, Pei Yu was quick to react, grabbing her hand before she could withdraw it and sipped from the spoon she held. A slight smile spread across his eyes as his true nature revealed itself, taking advantage once again, “Then let me help you eat.”

With that, he looked at Shen Zhiyi’s hand with a suggestive air.

Not understanding her own abnormal behavior, Shen Zhiyi handed the spoon to him, deciding not to bother anymore, “You eat yourself.”

She lay down to rest, and Pei Yu stopped teasing her, quickly finishing up the meal. His thoughts were completely focused on her and he couldn’t taste anything.

After he had eaten, he tidied up and left the room.

Shen Zhiyi lay on her side with her eyes closed, but in reality, she wasn’t sleepy at all. After Pei Yu left, she opened her eyes and looked around the quiet and empty room. Suddenly, it seemed she couldn’t stand the silence any longer and restlessly turned over. The movement was too swift and she began to feel dizzy again, and for a moment, everything was uncomfortable.

She touched her chest, trying to calm herself down.

He said he would leave after accompanying her through the check-up, yet he stayed to have a meal with her afterward—he had already gone above and beyond. What more could she wish for?

Really unsatisfied.

Thinking about it made her angry with herself. While she spoke well of maintaining clear boundaries with others, as soon as they soothed her a little, she would break down. She got carried away by the smallest acts of kindness, truly without any accomplishment.

While she was annoyed, the ring of an incoming call sounded. Shen Zhiyi reached for the phone on the bedside table and answered it without looking.

“Brother Pei Yu, did Sister Zhiyi go to the hospital? How did the checkup go?”

It was Qin Xiaoran’s voice.

Shen Zhiyi paused, looked at the phone, and then realized she was holding Pei Yu’s phone. She had forgotten to give it back to him, and he apparently didn’t bother to ask for it back; probably he had forgotten and would likely come to look for his phone soon.

“It’s me, Xiaoran, I’m alright.”

This time, it was Qin Xiaoran who was stunned. After making sure he hadn’t dialed the wrong number, he immediately understood, “Sister Zhiyi, I was so worried about you. Which hospital are you at? I’ll come over and see you.”

Qin Xiaoran was a night owl and knew that Shen Zhiyi had night scenes to shoot that day, which was why he called her in the middle of the night. He had intended to chat and arrange a time to have a meal. He was taken aback when he heard from Xiaodong that she was injured, his first reaction being to call Pei Yu. But Pei Yu was really unreliable for not even sending a message back. He didn’t dare to bother him and had been worrying all night, barely able to wait until now.

Shen Zhiyi had only been kept for observation at the hospital for a while, and it wasn’t necessary for anyone to specifically visit, “I was discharged in the afternoon. You don’t need to come and see me, I’m really fine.”

The two of them chatted for a while. Qin Xiaoran restrained himself from asking too many questions, yet he felt relieved. As soon as the call ended, he sent a message to Wang Feifei bragging and telling him not to think about finding a girlfriend for Pei Yu any longer, as the two of them were doing well together.

After the phone call, the door was pushed open again—it was indeed Pei Yu. Shen Zhiyi passed his phone to him, “I forgot to give it back to you.”

Pei Yu didn’t mind, took it and casually placed it in his pocket, then took several tubes of ointment out of the bag he was carrying, “Shall I apply the ointment for you?”

Shen Zhiyi sat dazedly, “Didn’t you come for your phone?”

“Hmm?”

Not understanding her point, Pei Yu unscrewed the cap of the ointment tube and explained, “You have some bruises, I got some medicine from the doctor.”

So he hadn’t left.

He lifted the quilt, sat by the bed, and asked softly, “Shall I apply it for you?”

The bruises were mainly on her arms and thighs with some on her calves. Shen Zhiyi did not speak but tilted her body slightly, extending her arm out to him.

Pei Yu silently curved his lips, his gaze falling on the obvious bruising and swelling on her fair skin. The smile quickly faded and he silently applied the medicine.

The ointment felt cool. Shen Zhiyi zoned out for a moment, and by the time she came to, her trouser leg had been rolled up, and Pei Yu was looking down, tending to the bruises on her calf.

“Don’t do anything to Director Meng.”

Shen Zhiyi remembered how fierce he had been when hitting someone at Minghua and thought that Director Meng definitely wouldn’t be able to withstand a punch from him. Even if he didn’t use violence, as long as Pei Yu wished it, Director Meng would probably have to retire early after finishing this film.

Lightening his movements with the ointment, Pei Yu didn’t look up but hummed in acknowledgment.

“Won’t do anything.”

Even in his anger, he knew what she was wary of.

After a moment of silence, Shen Zhiyi, tugging at a corner of the quilt, whispered, “Thank you.”

Pei Yu lifted his eyes, “Thank me for what?”

Without looking at him, Shen Zhiyi rested her chin on her knees, looking at his fingertips stained with the ointment, “Everything.”

For rushing over in the middle of the night to see her, and staying with her until now, everything he had done was worth her gratitude.

“Zhizhi,” Pei Yu was somewhat unsure how to start this conversation, hesitating several times, unable to find the right words, “We—”

The sudden sound of knocking at the door interrupted him.
