Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Fingers Intertwined.
Soon, Pei Yu bent down and entered the tent. His face was indeed frosty, and he looked quite fierce. Seeing Shen Zhiyi sitting up, his expression did not ease. “Are you feeling dizzy?”
He reached out to adjust the pillow Shen Zhiyi was leaning on. As he extended his hand, Shen Zhiyi instinctively dodged to the side, and Pei Yu’s movement paused as he raised his eyes to look at her.
Thinking he was about to say something sharp and cold again, Shen Zhiyi turned her head away, feeling uncomfortable and not wanting to argue with him at all.
The pillow she leaned on was slightly moved. Pei Yu did not get angry and said in a low voice, “I won’t touch you.”
His tone was unexpectedly gentle as if afraid to frighten her.
Surprised, Shen Zhiyi glanced at him. Pei Yu, seeing she was willing to look at him, curved his lips into a smile. The smile carried a comforting meaning as he asked again, “Is your head very dizzy?”
His attitude was gentle, and Shen Zhiyi couldn’t keep a cold face, but still felt awkward, “A bit dizzy.”
Pei Yu then said, “Hang in there. We’ll go to the hospital for a thorough check-up in a bit, Do you feel discomfort anywhere else on your body?”
She had abrasions on her arms and shins, which had been treated simply. Because of the dizziness, she had not felt much pain from the wounds, “It’s okay.”
Feeling uncomfortable, she deliberately avoided his gaze, “Aren’t you busy?”
Even though she was injured, there was no shortage of people to take care of her. It was not right for Pei Yu to keep lingering by her side… especially now that they didn’t have much of a relationship.
“Not busy.”
Knowing she wanted him to leave, Pei Yu’s face did not look good, with a touch of melancholy in his eyes. But this was all his problem; there was no reason to act out against her. He pursed his lips and lightly touched her hand resting by her side, his fingertip brushing against hers briefly, “I’ll stay with you until after we’ve gone to the hospital for a check-up.”
Although it was a declarative statement, it came out with an inquisitive tone.
He lifted his long lashes, his dark eyes were focused and soft, “Is that okay?”
She knew the most rational thing would be to refuse, but she just couldn’t bring herself to say the words. He must have rushed over in a hurry; a person who always dressed impeccably now looked uncommonly disheveled. She wondered how long he had been outside, as his body carried the damp chill of the mountain woods.
Shen Zhiyi lowered her head and smoothed out the wrinkles on the edge of the blanket, muttering ambiguously, “Do as you wish.”
After all, she couldn’t control his comings and goings.
“We’ll take you to the hospital when it gets light,” Pei Yu said, “If you’re tired, sleep a bit first.”
Shen Zhiyi looked around and couldn’t find her phone. It was probably still with Xiaodong, “What time is it now?”
“Not yet four o’clock.”
Pei Yu took out his phone from his coat pocket and placed it in her palm, “Use mine for now.”
A phone is a personal item, not something that can be given away just like that. She had never touched his phone before, and now that they were separated, he dared to hand it over, not afraid that she might discover something. Shen Zhiyi swiped the screen absentmindedly, not even knowing what she could do to pass the time.
She fiddled around for a while, and Pei Yu didn’t make any other movements. The tent was incredibly quiet, and faint sounds of the crew moving outside could be heard.
Because Shen Zhiyi was injured, the film set descended into chaos, but fortunately, the emergency medical personnel were waiting nearby. Her injury wasn’t severe. The mountain forest required a temporary permit for entry and exit, which was quite troublesome. Director Meng, a workaholic, refused to let the accident delay the shooting schedule, so he proceeded with filming the scenes that didn’t require Shen Zhiyi. However, before these scenes were finished, Pei Yu arrived.
None of the crew members recognized Pei Yu; they only noticed a Hummer suddenly appearing within the designated camping area of the crew. Soon after, a tall and imposing man appeared and took Director Meng aside in front of everyone, delivering a severe rebuke. Director Meng, known for his volatile temper, didn’t dare to talk back.

At first, everyone felt a sense of satisfaction, but as they listened, they thought this man was too harsh. Although the scene was dangerous, Director Meng had taken all the necessary safety precautions. Shen Zhiyi’s accident was truly unexpected, not a crew incident, and what’s more, she wasn’t hurt very badly. The way this man spoke made it sound as if something very serious had happened to Shen Zhiyi.
The crew members whispered among themselves, curious about Pei Yu’s identity and joking that Director Meng had finally met his match. The tents were not soundproof, and Shen Zhiyi heard most of it from inside.
Perhaps it was because the dizziness had subsided, but the pain from the other injuries on her body became exceptionally sharp. Her eyes felt sore, and when she rubbed them, tears appeared. She quickly forced back the tears and stealthily raised her head to look at Pei Yu, afraid he would notice her.
It was then she realized he had fallen asleep against the bags next to her.
He had been woken up by a call from Qin Xiaoran in the middle of the night and hadn’t dared to delay on his way here. After arriving and seeing Shen Zhiyi unconscious, his mind was exhausted in just a few hours. Now that he saw her awake and in a good state, having exchanged a few words with him, he relaxed the tense nerves. Unknowingly, he drifted off to sleep.
This tent was used by Shen Zhiyi and Xiaodong. The bags contained clothing. Pei Yu was leaning casually against them, his head slightly bowed, with strands of hair resting on his brow bone. The dim light allowed one to see his pale complexion, his light-colored lips, and even in sleep, he emitted an air of weariness.
The temperatures on the mountain were low, and he had only one woolen coat on his body, which looked cold. Shen Zhiyi grabbed a thick blanket from the bags next to her and carefully bridged the distance between them to drape it over him.
Up close, she could smell the faint scent of tobacco on him.
In a soft voice, she murmured, “Why did you start smoking again…”
As she laid the thick blanket over him and was about to retreat, her wrist was suddenly grasped.
Startled, she looked up, only to see Pei Yu with half-open eyes, clearly not fully awake, probably in a state between sleep and consciousness.
Having been in the tent for so long, his hand was still cold. Shen Zhiyi couldn’t ascertain his intention, so she kept quiet for a moment.
With her wrist in his grasp, Pei Yu lowered his gaze, his ice-cold fingertips slowly sliding down from her protruding wrist bone, turning her palm upward and interlocking their fingers tightly together.
It might have been her imagination, but Pei Yu seemed to smile faintly, then closed his eyes as if all of this was an unconscious act in his half-asleep state.
The hand holding hers slowly warmed up. Shen Zhiyi stared at their clasped hands for a long time, and as drowsiness overtook her, she didn’t move away but lay down next to him, maintaining that posture.
As dawn approached and the crew was preparing to descend the mountain, Xiaodong quietly came into the tent to fetch something and was startled by the sight of the two seemingly nestled together. She was too scared to move.
Shen Zhiyi was a light sleeper, and she woke up as soon as Xiaodong entered.
Pei Yu was still sleeping, so she gestured Xiaodong to be quiet with a “shh” and carefully withdrew her hand from his without disturbing him.
Xiaodong watched, wanting to speak but stopping herself.
Once some distance had been reestablished, Shen Zhiyi signaled for her to wake him up.
Xiaodong had no choice but to comply, “Mr. Pei—”
She really couldn’t understand why it was her job to do this.
