Chapter 33: Is That Everything You've Got?

It was one of those, if it is too good to be true then it probably it, moments. Augustus, looking scrawny and tiny would be dumb to take on one soldier alone, much less the army.

If he wanted suicide, wouldn't it be better for him to fall on his own sword? Pius stood his ground, observing the young man, "Would your village stand by those vain words?"

Augustus sighed, "Drop the weapons."

Immediately his voice fell, most of the soldiers behind him dropped their weapons to the ground, glaring into Pius' eyes. Leaving Augustus standing alone with a raised brow.

One of the soldiers of the enemy force charged straight at a defenceless village militia, but he was crushed under a sudden pressure, turned to a bloody meat paste in his armour.

Tyrott stepped back seeing that, and Pius scowled. The other soldiers stood still and no one else dared test if that would happen a second time, and the atmosphere was silenced.

"So, how many of you are going to die first?" Augustus strengthened the bait. Now, the situation had turned from facing the ravaing suicidal madman to calculative commander.

By doing this, it looked less like he was trying to get himself killed and more like he's saving more of his forces by taking on the bulk of the enemy alone— much more sensible.

This was much more believable because of Iona's dwindled population. They have only a few choices here; send fodder to soak skills, send everyone to kill him, or avoid the bait.

These were all favourable to Augustus, unless they decided to send only one person to challenge him and the person was somehow strong enough to handle Augustus all alone.

"Do you mean, which one of us is going to bury your body here?" Tyrott chuckled in a loud choice, but his legs were rooted to the ground. He was still very hesitant like the rest.

"By all means, try." Augustus turned to Tyrott, glaring him dead in the eyes as an icy pressure spread out throughout the atmosphere, his tone colder, "And you may succeed."

Pius groaned, then he stepped forward, aiming his sword at the calm Augustus, "I'd rather you insult us directly than use underhanded ways. I am enough to handle a child."

The other soldiers stepped back as Iona's Militia retrieved their weapons and followed suit, creating a ring of soldiers around Pius and Augustus, leaving them to stare in silence.

Augustus frowned, assessing Pius's strength. No matter how deep he probed, Pius was a regular knight and was no match for a prince who could handle a grand spirit all alone.

Pius took a deep breath, then charged forth with a loud shout, stabbing with his sword in a horizontal path. Before it pierced Augustus's chest, he stepped to the side and dodged.

Augustus pivoted on his heel and spun around, swinging his blade in an arc to slash at Pius's neck, but as the giant stepped back to dodge, Augustus's blade only grazed his chin.

Pius wiped the blood of his chin, then took another step back. He dashed forth again, a cold gleam flashing in his eyes as he noticed Augustus readying to counter his next attack.

"Show," Pius stabbed with his blade in a similar pattern to earlier, but Augustus didn't waste time in stepping back and swinging his sword, and Pius' eyes shone, "Dedication!"

His movement at the end of his attack's path turned weird, switching up the speed as his blade elongated in size to reach further. Pius' quick attack took Augustus by surprise.

Augustus quickly tilted his body, watching as the blade pierced through his armour to reach him inside. Although the prince made sure his vitals were avoided, he was shocked.

Pius must have used two or even three consecutive skills in that instant, or was strong enough to mimic their effects— «Long Blade», «Armour Rend» and the «Flash Step» skill.

Augustus frowned, watching as the man darted back and retrieved the blade from his body, leaving a trail of blood along the ground. Augustus groaned, his gaze growing cold.

'I guess this one is quite strong, and I have to be a little bit more serious.' Recalling his opponent's words, Augustus clicked his tongue and dashed forth, "Make this challenging."

Augustus unleashed a whirlpool of slash attacks on Pius, shredding through the wind in quick calculated strikes and forcing the giant into a defensive stance, his aura growing.

Pius swung his blade about, deflecting fatally angled attacks. As he swung his blade in silence, he suddenly sidestepped and spun around, spinning his massive sword along with.

Faced with the cleaving spin, Augustus ducked down and lunged forward for a vicious stab, but Pius quickly halted his spin and collapsed his blade in a powerful vertical slash.

Augustus halted his stab and spun his sword around to block the attack, and his knees nearly bucked under the collapsing pressure as the ground underneath Augustus caved in.

Pius took the chance to kick Augustus in the face, sending the prince flying through the air. Augustus slammed through a tree, rolling across the ground until he lost inertia.

As he stood to his feet, his head spinning from the former attack, Augustus cleared his throat and dashed forward his gaze grew condescending, "Was that everything you had?"

Augustus' speed tripled as he dashed through the air, swinging his blade with all of his might. His blade cleaved through the wind, sending a surging tide of energy flying at Pius.

The crescent ripped through the earth, its size increasing with its travel distance. As it reached it's climax, towering before Pius, the commander stepped back then dashed forth.

He transformed to a blur, swinging his blade at the last moment and cutting through the attack, sending a massive shock wave flying out as the energies exploded into the air.

Weaker soldiers in the vicinity were blown into the air, and some plants—trees even—were uprooted from the earth. Leaving Pius to land on the ground, his pupils narrowed.

'He cut through the attack?' Augustus chuckled drily, bubbling with excitement as he tightened his grasp around his blade, 'Then again, it's all worthless if he can't strike back.'
