Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind-Chapter 78 - 67: Saving Old Acquaintances
This slight noise excited You Su a little, yet it also made him become alert.
He took Ji Lingruo by the hand, turned around, and led the way, the two of them proceeding slowly with the lightest of steps.
No one knew whether the people ahead were enemies or friends, so they had to act cautiously.
As they got closer, the voices became clearer, and they could finally make out what was being said, realizing these voices were somewhat muffled as if coming through a wall:
"Liu Nengwu! Are you crazy? This is to be taken back for everyone to eat together!"
"Huang Shi’an, don’t pretend to be noble with me! I’m not crazy! Anyway... there’s no way to escape anyway, why should I die hungry!"
You Su listened to the voices of the two people; they sounded somewhat familiar. They were two of his friendly elders among the common people.
At the end of this passageway, there indeed was a wall, but hearing the volume of the voices, it was clear the wall was thin and had been built many years ago.
You Su could not help but feel puzzled. His master said this well was connected to the outside, so why was it blocked?
"What if that malicious spirit doesn’t pursue us and we survive, and you’ve eaten all the food. What will we use to save the others when we return?"
"Do you think that’s possible? If you can’t even save yourself, do you really think about saving others?"
"Damn it! Don’t you have a conscience? Everyone gave us all the food they had so that we could muster enough strength to find something to eat before we were sent out! How dare you eat this lifesaving food! Spit it out!"
As soon as this person finished speaking, You Su heard the sound of the two of them wrestling together.
From their brief conversation, You Su could guess some of the situation. It seemed a group of people were hiding somewhere, and after their food ran out, they sent these two out to scavenge for food. They encountered a malicious spirit and were forced to flee here. Mr. Liu lost hope and did not want to die of hunger, while Mr. Huang opposed Mr. Liu’s actions.
Not all passageway ends are Grotto Heaven Blessed Lands or legacy forbidden grounds.
Just as You Su was harboring resentment, the two people on the other side of the wall suddenly stopped fighting.
"Do you... see that? That thing by the cave entrance..." Liu Nengwu’s voice was trembling.
In the pitch-black cellar, a scorpion-like malefic entity with a body emitting a bright red glow stood not far away, watching them. Its exact appearance was unclear, as it was surrounded by some unknown mist.
"Hmm..."
"We’re dead for sure..." Liu Nengwu, thin and frail, clutched the food he carried tightly, his entire body shivering uncontrollably. "Damn, if I knew, I’d have eaten a few more bites earlier..."
"Don’t eat anymore! Listen to me! It’s just one of them! I’ll go and distract it, and you run! You take the food and run first! You must take it back to save everyone! Do you hear me? If I find out you hid and ate it all, even in death, I won’t let you go!"
Huang Shi’an, sturdy and robust, turned around to clutch Liu Nengwu’s shoulders firmly, his eyes full of determination.
"Old Huang, you..."
"Don’t talk! The mist hasn’t spread over yet, it dares not come out of the mist. Wait here and don’t move, I’ll go to the right, and when I lure it away, you run!"
Huang Shi’an released his grip and began inching along the stone wall on the right. He wasn’t making any particular effort to conceal his steps. In the darkness, the malefic entity’s eyes shone brightly like torches, unsettlingly bright.
It had naturally noticed the two of them, but it hadn’t moved yet, seemingly just as Huang Shi’an said, waiting for the cellar’s mist to thicken.
Yet the next scene completely dismantled Huang Shi’an’s plan as there wasn’t just one scorpion-like malefic entity! Two more identical malefic entities surfaced from the dark passageway!
And right at that moment, all three malefic entities suddenly sprang into action, two charging towards Huang Shi’an and one towards Liu Nengwu.
Huang Shi’an was still unwilling to give up. He mustered his strength, running towards Liu Nengwu, trying to block the malefic entity heading his way, as he shouted:
"Run! Run quickly!"
In the darkness, the malefic spirit that leaped at Liu Nengwu jumped high into the air, its glowing body illuminating Liu Nengwu’s terrified face. He had already collapsed to the ground, his face devoid of any color, and his lips were trembling continuously.
Huang Shi’an was in complete despair, knowing their death here meant that the elders, women, and children hiding with him would all starve to death in the cellar.
"No!"
With a "bang!" a massive explosion suddenly erupted!
Several pieces of rubble tumbled down, forcing back the malefic entity, as a candlelight behind Liu Nengwu started to shine through.
A handsome young man wielding an Immortal Sword dashed towards the malefic entity with lightning speed, slicing it cleanly in half.
Everything happened too fast, and before Huang Shi’an could comprehend, the young man had already sprinted towards his direction.
Seeing the young man’s unrelenting sword’s momentum, Huang Shi’an caught on, and he threw himself to the ground. Sure enough, the young man executed a sweeping slash, taking down the two malefic entities behind him as well.
In the blink of an eye, all three malefic entities had been dispatched.
"Mr. Huang, are you alright?"
Huang Shi’an grabbed the young man’s hand, realizing with a start that this young man was You Su.
"Help me..." Liu Nengwu gasped, struggling from beneath the pile of rubble.
You Su hastily went over and helped Liu Nengwu clear the stones. Although struck by debris and covered in wounds, it was better than becoming food for the malefic entities.
"You Su!" Liu Nengwu, even in dire straits, still clutched the food in his arms, his eyes filled with delight as he looked up.
"Mr. Liu, it’s me." You Su helped Liu Nengwu to his feet again.
Mr. Huang walked over then, his voice trembling slightly after narrowly escaping death, "I never expected it to be you who saved us."
"What do you mean?" Ji Lingruo suddenly asked coldly.
Mr. Huang’s face stiffened, noticing the stunning girl holding a candle, "This is..."
You Su quickly shielded his junior sister behind him and said, "She’s my junior sister."
Mr. Huang paused, realizing his careless words might be misinterpreted as belittling You Su by the girl. He then explained:
"Please, young lady, don’t take offense. I misspoke. You Su, Mr. Huang is grateful for your life-saving act."
Saying this, he was about to bow. Liu Nengwu also wanted to pay respects, but You Su quickly supported both and said:
"There’s no need for that. It was just a small effort."
"Ah, but how come you’re here?" Huang Shi’an asked.
"My junior sister and I were also hiding. We happened to hear you two through the wall and broke through to help."
Huang Shi’an nodded, while Liu Nengwu rubbed his aching body and said:
"You Su, you’re really something. So many cultivators have died in the west of the city, and you were able to hide with your junior sister for so long; that’s impressive!"
You Su frowned slightly, initially hesitating to intervene. After all, these two were elders who had looked after him since childhood, but after Qi Daodong assessed his junior sister as possessed, he would inevitably inform others. If these two tipped them off, there would be more trouble.
He ultimately chose to trust these two and intervened, though it seemed from Mr. Liu’s words and demeanor that he was unaware? And what was this about many cultivators dying in the west of the city?
