Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind-Chapter 84 - 73: Reversal of Good and Evil
It was late at night, and most people were snuggled up asleep, the Lucky Cave silent.
"Something’s terribly wrong! Mr. Qi is back!"
A few heart-wrenching screams suddenly exploded overhead in the cave and echoed for a long time, violently shattering the silence.
The crowd was awakened, staring at each other in confusion, not yet comprehending the situation when they saw a frantic guard stumble and fall to the ground, eating a mouthful of dust.
You Su had not been asleep, merely resting with eyes closed, but upon hearing this, his eyes snapped open in shock.
Ji Lingruo was also awakened; she hadn’t expected to hear that name again and quickly held onto You Su’s arm with her slightly parted lips.
In the crowd, a robust middle-aged man descended from the sky, landed next to the fallen guard, lifted him up with one hand, and shouted angrily:
"What are you shouting about!"
"Mr. Qi is back! Mr. Qi is back!"
"Then why are you saying something’s terribly wrong!"
"He’s not Mr. Qi; he’s an evil spirit! He’s already fighting with Mr. Lv outside! Mr. Bai, go save Mr. Lv!"
!
Mr. Bai’s pupils shrank, and he immediately tossed the guard aside and flew straight toward the cave entrance. At the same time, several other sect leaders also quickly moved out, followed closely by some high-ranking individuals.
Only then did the crowd in the cave realize the horror in the guard’s words... Qi Daodong, the second in cultivation in the city, had transformed into evil!
Everyone gasped in shock, and many people began to cry out, but soon cultivators in charge emerged to control the situation.
You Su furrowed his brows tightly; the news of Qi Daodong’s corruption was too shocking for him to wait idly. He stood up to leave but was pulled back by Ji Lingruo.
"Senior brother, I’m going too."
You Su understood her intention and nodded. Though it would be wiser for Ji Lingruo to stay and hide, the two of them were inseparable after all they had been through.
They followed the cultivators heading out and slipped out together. As soon as they left the cave, Ji Lingruo saw the blazing flames beyond the open side door, the sounds of roaring and shouting mingling together, clearly a fierce battle was underway.
You Su couldn’t resist any longer, shook his head to cover his eyes with stray strands of hair, and looked towards the battle outside the door.
On the battlefield, surrounded by sect leaders, was a monster with no remaining human form, supposedly the corrupted Qi Daodong. In his hand was a corpse, blood and flesh indistinct, faintly recognizable by those familiar as Elder Qio, who had lost an arm.
"Fellow cultivators! He’s no longer Mr. Qi! He’s a demon! Let’s work together to kill it!"
Mr. Bai’s eyes shone with ferocity; though he had held onto a fortunate hope before, seeing the corrupted Qi Daodong strangle Elder Qio before him and toss the cleaned arm bone at his feet shattered it.
The other four sect leaders echoed him solemnly, except for Wu Cheng, who cried out desperately from outside the crowd:
"Master isn’t an evil spirit! Don’t fight anymore!"
He desperately wished to rush in and protect his master but was severely injured and exhausted after four days of hunger and cold, unable to break free from the surrounding blades, and could only helplessly watch as chaotic spells bombarded Qi Daodong.
Qi Daodong, like a trapped beast, responded frantically to the unpredictable spells. No matter how strong the recovery ability of his bizarre body was, it gradually couldn’t keep up with the speed of consumption. The sudden rise of flesh on his body began to calm, as if being beaten back to its original form, turning back into that thin, white-haired old man.
He seemed to realize this, stopped desperately fighting these cultivators, fixed his gaze on the pained Wu Cheng, and howled in anguish. Suddenly, the blazing flames extinguished, plunging the battlefield into darkness.
The torchbearers reacted swiftly, immediately reigniting the fire.
Qi Daodong suddenly surged with astonishing speed, rushing straight towards Wu Cheng.
The sect leaders hurriedly tried to intercept him with swords and spells, but these attacks were too late, unable to hinder him in the slightest. Qi Daodong was determined to reach Wu Cheng.
Terrified by the momentum, the guards surrounding Wu Cheng stepped aside. Wu Cheng looked painfully at the wounded old man, his lips cracking from exertion.
Seeming to have made a resolution, he leaped towards the lunging Qi Daodong.
The crowd was astounded, believing Wu Cheng doomed. The next moment stunned them all as the mindless, bloodthirsty Qi Daodong embraced Wu Cheng protectively.
Qi Daodong’s motion didn’t stop there; he then looked at Wu Ping within the crowd and crazily rushed towards him.
Wu Ping, meeting Qi Daodong’s crimson eyes, trembled and prepared to flee:
"Don’t come here! Stay away!"
The people around also scattered in panic, but the sect leaders couldn’t let Qi Daodong have his way and rushed over.
Mr. Bai swung his sword, leaving a cross-shaped wound on Qi Daodong’s bare back, reverting him fully to his elderly form.
Qi Daodong was knocked to the ground, yet still tried to protectively lift Wu Cheng. For some reason, something continued to support him, and he struggled to stand again.
Mr. Bai prepared to strike once more, but a weeping, beautiful lady in the crowd caught his attention, causing him to hesitate:
"Don’t hurt Wu Cheng!"
Wu Cheng looked over and saw it was his birth mother. They exchanged a glance, Wu Cheng filled with grief.
But in that moment of hesitation, Qi Daodong seized the opportunity, the red light in his eyes boiling like mist, as if burning the last of his life’s fire.
He charged toward the crowd, grabbing the screaming Wu Ping, and headed toward the dense fog behind them.
The crowd reacted too slowly; only one sect leader managed to cast a spell, which chased after Qi Daodong like lightning, hitting him solidly from behind.
But this still couldn’t bring Qi Daodong down. He staggered but continued to flee quickly.
You Su, holding Ji Lingruo, hid in the corner, watching Qi Daodong speed past with the two captives. In an instant, his eyes met Wu Cheng’s.
Wu Cheng’s gaze was complex, a mix of shock, sorrow, despair, and apology.
You Su didn’t understand but felt his heart jumping to his throat. If Wu Cheng shouted before leaving, accusing him and Ji Lingruo of being corrupted too, they would face a situation even more perilous than Wu Cheng’s.
But Wu Cheng turned away, silently resenting the crowd basked in the light, as he and Qi Daodong disappeared into the dark night.
You Su clenched his fist abruptly, feeling inexplicable emotions, recalling how four days ago Qi Daodong had led people to attack them because of his junior sister’s corruption.
Back then, everyone wore righteous indignant expressions, like agents of justice, leaving no room for You Su and Ji Lingruo to explain.
Then as now, but this time, those seen as evil were the ones who once prided themselves as just.
