Fairy Tail: I Don't Want to Be the Guild Master-Chapter 482: Sister-in-law
Chapter 482: Sister-in-law
Fairy Tail had made their decision.
Though they had defeated their enemies, their hiding spot was now exposed. If they stayed, it was only a matter of time before the Royal Army sent reinforcements.
So, everyone quickly packed up their belongings, and Edolas Levy activated the teleportation magic circle without hesitation.
It was absolutely the right call.
Because not long after their departure, Erza Knightwalker, blood still trickling from the corner of her mouth, arrived at their former location, her long spear clutched tightly in her hand.
"Damn it!"
Missing them by mere moments, Erza dropped to one knee in frustration, then stood and swung her blazing spear to burn away the lingering webs and free her trapped soldiers.
Fairy Tail had always managed to slip away in the past, but they were usually left battered and humiliated, fearing for their lives.
This time, however...
This time, they had been crushed.
Even Sugarboy had been seriously wounded.
The Second and Fourth Magic War Divisions, completely humiliated.
"Fairy Tail... from Earth-land, huh?" Erza growled as the last of the webs curled away in ash. She twirled her two pistols once, then clicked them together, fusing them back into a single long spear.
"We’ll settle this in the Royal Capital."
Meanwhile, on the other side, the ground trembled twice as the teleportation magic circle completed its descent.
"Transfer complete, you bastards!" Levy shouted from inside the circle, panting.
The instant the guild finished landing, Lucy stormed toward her.
"You’re so slow! Honestly, if it weren’t for outside help, we’d have been done for this time!"
Levy snapped back, already fuming. "And whose fault is that?! You’re the one who kept bothering me!"
The two of them stood nose-to-nose, glaring, both radiating pure chaos energy.
Wendy, who had just managed to stand up after the rough landing, blinked in surprise at the bickering.
In her world, Levy was quiet and gentle, someone who read books and helped with ancient runes.
But this version? Spitting insults like "bastard" and "idiot" like it was second nature?
’This Fairy Tail is really... something else.’
"Um....are you okay?" Lisanna gently helped lift Rhodes, with Natsu offering a hand as well.
Rhodes waved them off with a weak smile. "I’m fine. Just burned through a lot of magic power. I’ll be good as new after a few minutes of rest."
Lisanna frowned in doubt. "With that much power used up, is a few minutes really enough to recover...?"
Rhodes paused, mid-smile.
"That’s because..."
He trailed off, trying to maintain composure as a nervous sweatdrop rolled down his cheek.
Natsu, still fired up from the earlier battle, barked out: "Rhodes! Wendy! Hurry up already, let’s move!"
Wendy hesitated. "Huh? Shouldn’t we wait for Rhodes to rest a bit?"
"I can carry him!" Natsu declared confidently. "He can rest slowly while we walk!"
This time, even Rhodes agreed with him. "The longer we wait, the more unpredictable things might get. Better to move while we can."
As for gear, everyone was allowed to take just two pieces of equipment for safety. After all, they’d just seized a whole pile from the Royal Army.
Rhodes casually chose a pair of sturdy arm guards that fit him well, then slung the odd-looking sword from Sugarboy across his back.
Natsu barely managed to find something decent. Wendy settled for what she could, adjusting her too-large arm guards with a sigh.
Happy and Carla, not to be left out, each picked up a single gauntlet. They tried them on, nodded in approval, and carried them off with pride.
Lucy had finally stopped arguing, but worry remained in her voice. "You’re really going? The Royal Capital’s probably crawling with guards. Even with that big spider—"
Rhodes looked at her calmly. "We have to go. The people who matter most to us... are there."
"That’s right!" Natsu grinned, slipping one of Rhodes’s arms over his shoulder to support him. "No matter what, we’re gonna bring them home!"
Wendy nodded, determined, and quietly walked beside them.
Happy and Carla flapped their wings, flying after the trio without hesitation.
Rhodes glanced back one last time at the pile of leftover equipment.
"Oh, right. You guys can keep the rest. Consider it a mission reward. But before we manage to rescue our friends... please help us gather whatever intel you can."
Behind him, Lisanna stood frozen.
"Mira," "Elfman," and the others softly called out to her. Though they were clearly reluctant, their eyes were gentle, filled with silent encouragement.
"Sister Mira... Brother Elfman..."
Whatever needed to be said between the siblings had already been said in private. Lisanna’s eyes shimmered with tears as she turned and ran out after the group.
"Hey, Mira...?" Lucy looked at the two siblings in confusion.
"Can I explain later?" Edolas Mira whispered, her eyes fixed on the retreating figures. In her heart, she prayed for their safety.
"Wait, wait, wait—" Rhodes looked in surprise at the girl now traveling alongside them. "You... you’re Lisanna?"
Lisanna had wiped her tears and tried to put on a smile. "Yes."
Natsu blinked, then gave Rhodes a look as if he were missing the obvious. "Are you an idiot? Lisanna is Lisanna."
Rhodes didn’t have the strength to punch him this time, so he just sighed and explained, "No...I mean, she’s our Lisanna. Not the Edolas version?"
Natsu gave him a look of total confidence. "Of course she is! Same voice, same face, same scent, there’s no mistaking it."
Rhodes narrowed his eyes. "This world’s Mira has the exact same scent as our Mira. When I first got here, even my wolves mistook her."
"Wait, what?! Seriously?!" Natsu’s eyes widened.
Lisanna laughed softly, covering her mouth. Seeing Natsu act just like his usual self made her heart feel light again.
Happy perched cheerfully on Lisanna’s shoulder. "Hey, Lisanna... how did you end up here?"
Lisanna gently stroked the top of his head, her expression soft. "Actually... remember that mission I went on with Sister Mira and Brother Elfman? The one where Elfman lost control?"
Happy nodded, eyes wide.
"I wasn’t killed," she continued. "I was just injured. But I think... there was a small Anima nearby. And just as this world’s Lisanna happened to die... I was pulled into Edolas in her place."
Happy clung to her tightly, voice trembling. "Then... why didn’t you come back? I missed you so much... I was really sad after that."
Lisanna’s expression dimmed. "Because back then, I couldn’t tell the truth. The mood in the guild was so heavy... and the longer I stayed, the harder it became to say it."
"And... I didn’t know how to get back to Earth-land. So I just kept pretending to be Edolas Lisanna."
She smiled faintly. "I thought... at least I wouldn’t make this world’s Sister Mira and Brother Elfman sad."
"But they’d already figured it out. They just... didn’t want to expose me. Not until now."
Her eyes softened. "Now, both Mira and Elfman, and the others, they’re all waiting for us."
’Just like Mira said... Lisanna really is a kind child. Always thinking of others before herself.’
Wendy smiled. "Miss Mira and Mr. Elfman in Edolas... they’re really kind too."
Natsu threw up his arms and laughed. "Of course! It’s Fairy Tail!"
Everyone smiled at that, warmth spreading through them like sunlight after rain.
Even Carla, who had remained on edge the entire time, let out a quiet breath. Maybe this was why she was willing to follow these crazy people.
Because Fairy Tail really was that kind of guild.
"Oh right, you’re Wendy, aren’t you?" Lisanna beamed. "You’re adorable! Did you just join recently?"
"Ah..yes! Um, um..." Wendy stammered, cheeks flushing. She wanted to ask about the Wendy of this world, and how she turned out... but the words wouldn’t come.
Lisanna chatted kindly with Wendy as they walked, easing the younger girl’s nerves as they got to know each other.
Then... her gaze turned to Rhodes.
For a brief moment, she hesitated, unsure of how to address him.
But in the end, she tilted her head with a sly smile and said playfully, "You’re Mr. Rhodes, right? Or should I call you... Brother-in-law?"
That one sweetly spoken "Brother-in-law" made Rhodes’s heart leap.
With a proud smile, he immediately swung the sword off his back and held it out to her.
"That’s right," he declared. "I’m your sister’s fiancé. And since it’s our first time meeting, I didn’t come prepared. So take this sword as a gift. Use it to protect yourself."
Lisanna blinked. "W-wait, this is from the Fourth Magic War Unit’s captain! It’s really valuable!"
"It’s fine," Rhodes said without a trace of regret. His smile only widened. "If Mira knows you’re safe, she’ll be thrilled."
Lisanna hesitated only a moment longer before accepting the weapon. Then, looking at Rhodes, she laughed softly.
’So that’s why he’s so happy... because my sister will be happy.’
It seems... her sister had truly found someone wonderful.
As they continued walking, Lisanna took advantage of the downtime to fire off a string of curious questions:
"Oh right! How did you join the guild?"
"When did you and my sister start dating?"
"Ah...when’s the wedding? Is there still time to prepare?"
"And... my sister didn’t force you into it, right?" (she whispered the last part almost too quietly to hear)
