Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Only Fools Get Married

Claire Shaw stared incredulously at the man in front of her, afraid she’d conjured a hallucination from missing him too much.

Ethan Blackwood raced through the rain, the droplets cascading from his wet hair landing perfectly on Claire Shaw’s delicate nose, making her shiver from the cold.

Cold! It’s real. She’s not dreaming.

Claire Shaw joyfully leaped into the man’s arms, "Ethan..."

Having restrained himself for some time, Ethan Blackwood didn’t want to wet Claire Shaw, so he suppressed the urge to hug her, but the joyous young lady didn’t care at all.

She teetered on her high heels, wrapping her arms around Ethan Blackwood’s neck, her fresh breath tingling his neck, tickling him lightly.

Ethan Blackwood sighed, feeling helpless against her, his arms tightening bit by bit, holding her firmly in his embrace, unwilling to let go.

Before he could properly savor Claire Shaw’s familiar scent, she wriggled out of his hold.

Her small hand tugged at his zipper, trying to uncover his clothes right there.

Grandfather Blackwood was still behind them, letting out a loud cough.

In broad daylight, under the bright sky, what was this girl doing?

Claire Shaw was a bit carried away, fearing the explosion sounds from the video meant Ethan came back wounded like last time.

So she was eager to check if he was hurt.

But forgot about the place, with Grandfather Blackwood watching them; he might think she was brazenly trying to do something to his grandson!

This was embarrassing!

She had just spoken boldly, and her image was shattered.

Seeing her face suddenly blush, Ethan Blackwood chuckled lightly, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "Don’t rush; I’ll let you check later."

Speaking so, he took Claire Shaw’s hand, leading her toward his grandfather.

"Grandpa, why so eager? Didn’t I say I’d bring her back to the Blackwood Family myself once I returned?"

Grandfather Blackwood’s face was stern, "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re scheming. You want to marry this woman? No way!"

It seemed Ethan Blackwood was already paving the way for Claire Shaw to join the Blackwood Family, and his grandfather tried to make a move while he was away.

Only to be caught in the act by Ethan Blackwood.

Ethan Blackwood didn’t appear so serious and cold before his grandfather; instead, he smiled faintly, showing great respect for the elder.

"Grandpa, you’re joking, right? When did I ever say I wanted to marry her?"

Claire Shaw wasn’t angry hearing this; she just studied his profile.

Compared to before, the man seemed a bit rugged, with messy hair sticking to his cheeks, a rugged jawline sprouting faint black stubble.

Less refined, yet adding more masculinity.

Other women might be busy getting angry, but Claire Shaw was just busy swooning.

This man truly had too much charm, a born clothes model; everything looked good on him.

Grandfather’s brows gradually relaxed, "At least you’re not too muddled. If you’re just fooling around, I don’t mind; men, having a few women is no issue. Besides, this girl is feisty, clever, if you fancy..."

Saying this, he glanced at Claire Shaw, hoping to see a trace of dissatisfaction or displeasure on her face.

Most women are petty, wouldn’t they turn the world upside down hearing this?

But Claire Shaw didn’t even look at him, obediently leaning against Ethan Blackwood, slightly tilting her neck to gaze at him.

Her expression was shy and embarrassed, somewhat resembling that swooning look young people talk about.

No, just moments ago, she was smashing teapots and cups, yet in Ethan Blackwood’s presence, she acted like a docile little bird.

Not the least bit angered by the words, her lips held a faint smile.

Grandfather’s hand swung into cotton.

Unexpectedly, Ethan Blackwood’s next words put him directly on the sand.

"Grandpa, you might have misunderstood me. I said I don’t plan to marry her now because even if I’d like to, she doesn’t want to marry."

Grandfather Blackwood angrily slammed the table, "She doesn’t want to marry? How could she not want to marry?"

His mind was filled with the thought that his grandson was a precious treasure, the Crown Prince, with women lining up from Meridia to circle the globe three times to marry him.

He didn’t even think much of her, so why would she think little of his precious treasure!

Explain, it has to be broken down thoroughly! Else, this won’t end today.

At this point, no one felt anything wrong, Claire Shaw wholly absorbed in Ethan Blackwood’s beauty, oblivious to Ethan having led his grandfather into a trap.

She had been standing a long time, her feet tired from the high heels.

"Do you really want to hear the reason?" she earnestly asked. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Grandfather, puffed with anger, "Speak!"

"Alright, then I’ll sit down and slowly tell you, I’ve become tired of standing."

Claire Shaw pulled Ethan Blackwood to sit, having been apart too long, she clung like glue, sitting close was not enough.

She directly sat on the man’s lap, resting her little face against Ethan’s rain-drenched chest.

Even though he was soaked through, she didn’t mind; she didn’t want to be apart from him at all.

Grandfather watched, his beard blowing in anger, "You, you truly are shameless, unethical!"

Claire Shaw was entirely unconcerned, since the grandfather didn’t like her anyway, she decided to drop the pretense, not intending to leave a good impression.

She maintained a serious face, "Are you fixated on these trivial matters? Are you even interested in hearing the reasons?"

Grandfather Blackwood was actually intimidated by a young girl, suppressing his anger, his focus shifting to the teacup before him, deliberately avoiding the sight of the young couple snuggled together.

"Speak!"

Claire Shaw wrapped Ethan’s hand around her waist, feeling him encompassing her entirely; only then did she speak at ease: "It’s simple, I like him for who he is, not for his family, status. If we’re just dating, every day would be joyful, without worrying about the future."

"But marriage is another matter, involving two families. Not to mention your disdain for my family, even I disapprove of them."

Grandfather Blackwood was stunned; who starts off with a blunt jab? This girl’s words had a point; he didn’t interrupt, allowing Claire Shaw to continue.

"Even if we overcame all obstacles to marry, what then after? I’m not someone adept at handling interpersonal relationships; your Blackwood family is vast, with daily banquets and charity galas..."

"You even disdain my Blackwood Family?"

"Not exactly disdain, but why force a merge when not in the same circle? I prefer my current lifestyle, he loves me, I love him, just us, with no interruptions, no need for having and raising children, battling in-laws in a wealthy clan; only fools get married!"

Grandfather slammed the table, stood up, pointing at Claire Shaw’s nose, "I’ve understood your point. It’s not that you don’t want to marry, you just don’t want responsibility. You intend to freeload my precious grandson!"
