Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Hidden Away

Claire remembered the night she was rescued when they first met.

The man was soaking wet, with short black hair that was clean and sharp, his eyebrows were angled upwards, his features distinct, and his muscular arms held her soft hips, emitting a hormonal aura all over.

Owen Crawford’s comment that she was an unromantic cold log made Claire’s heart flutter, she hooked the man’s neck, boldly inviting him in.

It was he who unlocked her myriad charms, making her understand that even without love, physical intimacy could satisfy the body.

Alcohol dulled her thinking ability.

The man seized the moment to kiss her, this time his kiss was gentle like a spring breeze.

His hand guided her arm around his strong waist.

Claire didn’t know if she was controlled by the alcohol; surprisingly, she did not resist.

Her head was dizzy, pink lips slightly parted: "I..."

Ethan Blackwood’s fingers landed on the ties at her waist, coaxing softly, "Baby, tell me, do you want it?"

Ding—

The doorbell rang, like a cold water splash over them, making Claire fully awake and she pushed him away.

Seeing the man’s unsatisfied eyes, she felt somewhat guilty, instinctively wanting to hide him.

Whether it was Mia Hughes or her mother who would come unannounced, neither did she want her relationship with Ethan to be discovered by them.

"Go hide in my room first!"

Ethan frowned, "Am I that disgraceful?"

"If one of my colleagues or my mom saw us, I’d have no way to explain it."

Claire pulled and dragged, but the man remained unmoving like a rock.

"You just said you wouldn’t interfere with my work and life."

Ethan raised an eyebrow, "So you agree?"

Only then did he cooperatively let Claire push him into the bedroom, as Claire instructed, "Don’t come out..."

The word ’out’ hadn’t been said when the man forcefully slammed her against the wall. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

The back of her head hit his hand, cushioning much of the impact, as Ethan lowered himself to kiss her.

"Ethan...mmm..."

The man held the back of her head, his voice husky and magnetic, with a bewitching tone, "I’m a businessman, I’ll agree, but what do you plan to offer me as compensation?"

In the dim light of the bedroom, the man’s emotional desire surged like a roaring sea.

Just a glance would ignite her.

That causing hand still lingering on her waist, "If you don’t agree, I’ll go out right now."

"Fine, I agree."

Claire was pushed to her limits, with no room for choice.

Considering the consequences of the two men meeting, she’d rather temporarily agree to his so-called maintain status quo.

She slipped out from Ethan’s embrace, quickly heading towards the living room.

The bedroom door was firmly shut behind her.

Claire quickly composed her demeanor and opened the door.

Owen Crawford reeked of strong alcohol, his attire not as suave as usual, wearing just a white shirt with the jacket removed.

The shirt’s buttons were open by two, the tie loosely hung around his neck.

The usually neat hair fixed at the back now drooped softly on his forehead.

In the three months they’d been apart, Owen, clearly the cheating party, appeared more like a victim.

"What are you doing here?" Claire’s face suddenly turned cold, on the verge of shutting the door.

Owen wedged his hand between the door, his eyes slightly hurt, his voice low:

"Claire, ninety days, and you never once took the initiative to contact me."

Claire said indifferently, "What? Want me to give you an award for twelve minutes and thirty-eight seconds?"

Owen’s eyes looked even more hurt, "Even if I cheated, it was only to see if you really cared about me, Claire, am I in your heart?"

Claire frowned silently; if Ethan weren’t here, she would have spoken frankly, but in her dingy little apartment, if she said the truth, wouldn’t Ethan find out she never loved Owen and would only complicate things?

Seeing her not deny it, a glimmer of hope appeared in Owen’s broken eyes.

"Claire, that night, my mom drugged me, I have my difficulties."

"So what do you mean now?"

Owen looked like a devout believer, his face was filled with love for her.

"Stella Sutton and I are just a business union, Claire, I’ve regretted it, can’t we not break up? Even if you coldly treat me, it’s fine, as long as you can look at me, look at me a little more..."

Claire peeled his fingers one by one off her shoulder, "Sorry, I don’t have the habit of recycling garbage, besides, your twelve minutes don’t satisfy me."

Owen looked as if he’d heard a ghost story, his pupils suddenly enlarged.

"You, what did you say?"

Claire stared straight into his eyes, saying one word at a time, "I said I have a man now, wild and powerful."

"Claire, don’t joke, I’ve been with you for three years, you never let me touch you, even holding your hand made you angry, how could you be with a man?"

He almost labeled Claire as sexually frigid.

Back then, unsatisfied with this, he even took Claire to see a psychiatrist and tested that she had a psychological barrier, so Owen didn’t force anything.

"I get it, you’re definitely saying this to provoke me, Claire, in your heart there’s also my..."

Before the word ’part’ could be said, a deep voice sounded in his ear, "How long do you plan to keep me waiting?"

A third person’s voice suddenly echoed from the room, Owen was struck as if by lightning, frozen in place.

Mechanically, he turned his head to look at the bedroom door, where somehow, a tall man was standing.
